View Full Version : What sets are worth keeping?

Well, I've had a ton of set items drop for me so far. I really have no idea where to keep them all. I already made a mule and he is full. So, I am asking those in the know. What are the ones worth keeping and which are never used and can be safely tossed aside?
Also as a side topic, some stuff I've heard that I'm hoping you can explain.
What are "bo sticks" and "poofer sojs"?
-JiM
bo sticks are worthless weapons, that have a +2 to barbarian skills on them - used to buffer, or "pre-buff" (raise your battle orders skill)
for example, my axer currently has a level 31 BO. Poofer sojs, are items that were duped, and may/will disappear if they are in the game with their mate, and/or randomly when BNet's server figures it out, or the next rust storm.
re: sets.
I don't keep a single "full set". But I generally mule, irathra's pieces, and angellic armor/rings/ammy's. as well as deaths' gloves/belt. infernal's caps,
for uniques, I keep: Twitches, Perf rez Ward Sheilds, tarns, shards, gulls, skins, nightsmokes, darkglows, biggins bonnets, magefists, frosties, blinkbat's, bloodfists, gtoes, and silks (again until I have absurd multiples of each) and of course soj's.

Sets are good for new characters builds in the early stages. It depends on your wealth but as far as I know, angelic amu and rings, deaths gloves and belt and full irathas can be used as a final gear for some builds.
I recommend you to read classic build guides and see the final gear proposals. It may be a good idea to keep such final gear items for yourself or some one who may need to try such builds. Now I remembered a Cleglaw zealadin build. :)

Sorry for the double post, but it has been over an hour and I didn't want to start another topic just for one simple question.
How many Pskulls is a SoJ worth now a days on USEast SCL? I keep getting rather different answers. Thanks again : )
-JiM
I would not trade a soj for any number of pskulls. Similarly I do not know anyone else that would either.
Warlock uses the concept of "multi-tier" levels of economy, and sojs are simply at a different level/tier in the economy than gems, set items, and even other uniques.
Periodically, people attempt to develop a mathematical model for the value of sojs vs. "more readily obtainable" items. Simple fact is, it's really not possible to do so.
That being said, of course one person here, will attempt to prove it wrong, by stating that they got a soj for 6 pskulls, or some other such trash talk that isn't repeatable, or independently verifiable.
pskulls are still relatively easily obtainable. I just pick up flawless ones I find as I CS, and hold on to them until I happen across a gem shrine, or find two more. OR, I make nm cows, and grab/pay gold for the flawless ones that fall.
similarly, I will also buy back flawless gems periodically that others in a cs run may have sold to jamella for gambling gold.

This why I asked, because I remember at one point, this was something that happened. I would have felt like quite a fool if I had started trying to trade in game. Thanks again goomba, you've been a great source of info.

At times of mass widespread duping the price of things can change drastically. At one point in NL, quite some time ago, I had a soj mule account. Admittedly, the account wasn't full but it was an immense amount f sojs... (note: I didn't dupe 'em personally, it's just a sign of how easy they were to obtain in this period).
As for which sets to keep the main ones have been stated above (deaths, irathas, angelics). I also like to keep some others handy, usually for:
*future LLD builds (angelics, sigs, deaths, beserkers).
*just having a twinked up char to help lvl when not rushing + power lvling (again, sigs is a good example).
*Giving away in norm. Ok. That one isn't really about keeping the set, but at any one time in norm there's around 3 games up asking for sigs. I like to make people happy.
U might want to keep one set (no need 4 complete sets) of Cathan's (rings and helm) and hsarus (boots and shield) if u want to make full vita chars and dont want to power level (personally i don't power level at all and sometimes even do whole act 3 for fun, not just travi and memph). Both sets provide easy boost to str on lower levels until u r high enough to wear better gear. Besides, if u use ravenclaw and dont have an encher r dont want to use one (like me). Then Cathan's provide nice bonus to fire dmg and thus makes it easy to level 2x from tomb runs in act 2. Its works fine enough in act 3 before trav with the aid of ice merc....

My completely twinked levelgear consists of these items, and are the ones I suggest to find/keep 1 or 2 sets of. Angelics ofcourse one can never have enough ;)
At level 3 I gear up:
Death gloves/belt
Hsarus boots
Socketed hat with +3 dex
2x scimitars with 80AR (chippies ;)) for baba
or
1 scimitar for all others and hsarus shield
At level 12 I use
Angelics rings/ammy/sword(s)
At level 15/16 I switch to
Cathans rings/ammy
Ravenclaw
Twitch
This I usually wear until level 25-30 then you can leech in CS, get a crushflange for fire res and some random items that give alot of res so I can survive leeching, while running my @ss of in Hell CS :P
Other sets I would find/keep are tancreds amulet/boots for MF, full Irathas and full Sigons. Uniques would be gulls/tarns/silks/shards(one can never have enough)/blinkbats/hotspurs.
Although I cannot throw things away and keep more myself. Hence the 3 accounts full of mules :P
Tdlofcc, if u not power leveling (leeching) but like twinked playing on low levels, u should invest some time to assemble the flail from act 3. Kicky weapon for any char before u get rawenclaw. Could add bigg's for hat 4 early levels too.

Well...I'm a bit of a noob...
But AFAIK a zealadin could become a good demon killer with Sazabi's Tribute.
With a maxed fanat aura and Laying of Hands from the Disciple set you could probably chew through most bosses...but you would be screwed around the undead.
Bul Kathos set is kinda lousy, but its my fav set in the game.
When socketed with puls, in tandem with the LOH gloves, and the fortitude runeword on a frenzy barb you are looking at +690% dmg against demons and another 300%ed from the fort runeword. By no means is this good for soloing hell mind you, but that could be remedied with dracs and an SoE.
For early on though....Sigons is a great set to hold on to.
EDIT: nvm...I'm in the wrong forum and those are expansion sets. =(
