edit:
If a weapon is ethereal it cannot be recharged OR repaired. You will lose the skill-charges for certain, only a Zod rune might prevent total durablility loss. But I guess if you put a Zod rune in a non-ethereal weapon with charges the charges should still be repairable.
Fyi, this is only speculating: nobody, and i mean NOBODY should check this out and waste a Zod rune on a non-eth weapon!!! :banghead:

You can recharge torches (which have no durability), so it should be possible to recharge indestructible items. Unlike a torch, you can even use the cube recipe for it instead of going to a smith. You won't be able to recharge ethereal items of any kind, including those which are indestructible as well. Only a few uniques can be ethereal and indestructible because they are fixed mods for them, it cannot occur randomly.
BTW, the "of the ages" affix cannot occur on rares and as it's a suffix like the affixes which provide charges, there are also no magical items which have both.
