Bezerker Barbs , Pvm

So I must confess, I'm mainly a expansion player, mainly east HCL:

One of my fav chars is the Bezerker barb, I get a warm fuzzy feeling dealing insane amounts of magic damage. As classic leveling is mostly about the Chaos runs, I decided to make a bezerker here on classic to avoid the IM deaths. Currently he's level 31 and my first char on classic. In checking the sticky threads "he's" not listed for the builds and everyone I come across in game seems shocked I'm not using whirlwind.

In LOD, the bezerker in skilled hands is one of the more powerful barb builds, is he viable in classic or will he end up being a disappointment and waste of time leveling. I was planning on going 2hander with the best martel/maul I can get my hands on. Right now I pretty much suck as I am using utter crap. (If anyone can donate a random item I would be thankful)


So I think you know what I'm getting at, what are your thoughts on this?

in classic a zerker w/o tele can't catch a sorc, pala or necro who know what they are doing but if you are planning on mainly pvm it could work, you'll need a secondary phys attack like bash or conc to leach, max or close res with nat res + gear, maybe grab a death set glove + belt for cannot be frozen, ias and ll for the time being, bsnap or something 20 ias 2xx mart, cb boots when you have vigor. Not really a great choice for a starter char but you could make it work.

I made a concentrate barb a while back which I need to level a bit further, but the part I did so far was very amusing to do. It's offcourse not exactly like Bezerk, since IM can still affect you, but you can at least also leech life and mana.
If you use bezerk, you might aswell use very low damage weapons with crushing blow. you will still not be affected by IM and also unable to leech due to the low damage of the weapons.
You might also consider a Woestave barb with goblin toe boots some time. :)

If I where to make a bezerkbarb, I would make certain I have all the block I could get, so twitch + a shield with at least 55%ctb and never ever run. I would not go 2 handed, since then I would have no defence at all. Fortunately, in Classic I don't need to pump dex to get block, so I can compensate the lack of 2 handed by getting more str. For a weapon I'd probably go for either the highest damage battlehammer I could find or a juicy naga, because of it's range.

Perhaps instead of leech ... you could use a 17/30/20 pris with DTM :)

Berserk costs only 4 mana ... so the DTM should be enough.
Perhaps use Angelics for AR and the DTM :)

And I still have a lvl 12 baba standing around, permed / lvl 12 and doing nothing ;)

You add 835ED magic damage .. with full synergies.
But I would like some resists too, so I would go for only 1 synergy.

With only one synergy it add 645% magic damage. Using a 150BH it would be either 1267damage with full synergies or 966damage with only one.

Problem is ... you need speed. And a battlehammer is sloooooooooooow.
But if you have a decent damage 40ias bh ... it might work.

I think 2h would be nice too, damagewise ...

My advise is that u try Corn's Berserk/howl/itemfind barb. After his post i tried it myself and got it to level 86, before i pursued another ambition... U just need to find a deacent bhammer (160 will do) with ias and then its very funny build. Havent thanked Corn yet for this nice build so here it is. Thx!

I think with a bezerkerbarb you'd be drinking asif you have stocks in the red potion factory.
In LoD I guess one would resolve that with that necro curse often used by smiters against the ubers. One does not have that in Classic.

If using Corn's Howlerzerkerfinder u would concentrate only on champpions, uniqs/seal bosses. I did anyway (Got the impression it was his idea too). My howler/zerk had a 30/20 prism Grim with dtm + one nice res ring with 40 mana, With those i have to say, that mana did not become an issue. Maybe different if you r killing more than just bosses and their retinue....

the kid just started classic, that's a pretty elite item I know I had only 2 of em' and I was considerably rich. As lorg said.. guessing he had about 400? mana if lvl 8x he shouldn't have mana troubles, i would concentrate on defence/life gear and put a few points in nat res to compensate.

I dont think life tap works with magic damage :dizzy: And expansion berserkers control the crowd with war cry, just like classic ones should.

Anyway, i havent made any berserkers, but theoretically, two handers should be the better choice since they have a much higher damage, unless you have serious problems getting your resists up.

Id use a exec swords, it seems to have the best damage/speed ratio. Good damage, while still being decently fast. And can be used 1-handed too if the situation calls for it. War cry is the key skill to control the crowds, it pretty much settles the entire bunch around you down for 10 seconds!

alex joined a game last night that I was BO/Shout in, he was on his, I believe bvb judging by the bh/grim he was using.

the din/sorcs all died, so I leapt, and howled to isolate the seal bosses, while alex selectively WW'ed the seal bosses to death. eventually all the formerly dead players that left, and rejoined wanted to be repartied, which was amusing considering two "ww" barbs managed to run the entire CS - realistically only Alex did the killing however.

I thought about making a frenzy/zerk CS Raider. thankfully I ignored that impulse.

if I want to raid with the barb now, I quietly solo it with the blizzer to clear infector, and vizier, then pop de seis' seal, wipe out his non-cold immune fiends, then leave the game, and come back with the mart barb and zerk seis, and/or his pals if need be.

since the blizzer, and the barb are on different accounts, it's fun sometimes to lead some newer players into believing that I cleared the CS that fast with a barb... :thumbsup: :laugh:

Update:

So my barb is level 43 now. He's made bezerker Style with one point in ww.
Bezerk's damage good, but killing is slow and tedious. I find myself using my one point ww most of the time since it's faster and gives leach. I use howl/taunt tons

My zerker is using a 1 Martel that I imbued. The wep pretty much sucks. The useful mods being 7% mana leach (enough to easily power ww) 20 ias and damage is 90-155. I pumped str early so I can use the maul asap since its the only wep I have. I have low life. :( as a bezerker this gets scary exp. being Hardcore. Thankfully I wont need anymore str for the rest of the game.
