Fortuitous Amulet of Luck

Fortuitous Ring of Fortune

Which monsters have the best chance of dropping these items?

If I decide to roll rings/amulets hoping for these mods, where should I hunt for the base item?

What odds am I looking at?

You'll want a ring with an ilvl of 42. This is the minimum ilvl req for the "of fortune" suffix. At this ilvl, you have a 4/125 chance of getting the "Fortuitous" prefix and a 4/132 (or 1/33) chance of getting the "of fortune" suffix. If the ilvl of the ring is higher, you'll be tagging on more affix possibilities.

The odds of getting both of these on a ring would be 1:4125 at this ilvl. For comparison sake, if this was an ilvl 99 ring you would have a 1:6063 chance.

For the amulet, you'll want one with an ilvl of 16. At this ilvl, you'll have a 4/75 chance of getting the "Fortuitous" prefix, and a 4/92 (or 1/23) chance of getting the "of fortune" suffix. Again, if the ilvl of the amulet is higher, you'll be tagging on more affix possibilities and the odds will decrease.

The odds of getting both of these on an amulet would be 1:1725 at this ilvl. For comparison sake, if the ilvl of the amulet was 99, you would have a 1:13542 chance.

Thanks for the number crunching as usual Orphan.

I was thinking at first that I'd simply gamble with the appropriate level character to get rings and amulets of the ring ilvl, but I seem to recall now that gambled items get a random ilvl of -4 to +5, correct? In that case, I would be hard-pressed to be sure that I got the right ilvl.

I went through the list of superuniques for normal and it looks like Radament has an mlvl of 16, which would be the best for amulets assuming the ilvl dropping from him would equal his mlvl and not the alvl, which I'm not sure of.

I couldn't find a superunique at level 42. Would I be better off simply killing normal monsters in level 16 (Far Oasis in norm) and 42 (Catacombs 1 & 2 in NM) areas and simply pick up an amulet or ring from there?

Gambling would result in clvl-5 to clvl+4, but yea, it'd be difficult to pin down an amulet with the correct ilvl using this method.

Radament is mlvl 19 :wink3: (base 16, +3 superunique bonus for appearing in superuniques.txt).

Catacombs 1 & 2 would be a good place for an ilvl 42 ring, yes, as long as it's not a champion or unique creature.

As for the Far Oasis, remember that monsters there use their natural mlvl on normal. Of the monsters that can spawn there, here are the mlvls:

Black Raptor = mlvl 16
Sand Maggot = mlvl 16
Itchies = mlvl 16
Sand Warrior = mlvl 16
Undead Scavenger = mlvl 15

In other words, watch out for the vultures.

Y'know... Orphan never ceases to amaze and astound me.

On a sort of OT note - Is it just my imagination, or does The Summoner seem to drop more rare rings than is natural? (Do you have any information on that, Orphan?) I know the magic/rare/set/unique depends highly on MF and sheer luck - but does he have a higher chance to drop rings or is it just my imagination? I did about 50 key runs in the past couple days, and I got nine rare rings from Summoner/Countess/Nihl/minions - and I clear the room after and only after I've killed the boss. Of those nine rare rings, seven came from The Summoner - and this isn't the first time something like this has happened, either. Rarely Nihl and Countess, almost never their minions, seems like The Summoner just loves his rare rings.

The summoner's treasure class does have a unique/set/rare/magic modifier of 900/900/972/1024. Essentially, he does have a better chance of dropping uniques, sets and rares more often than the usual monsters. A value of 1024 is essentially 100%. So 900 is about 87%, and 972 is about 94%. These increase the odds of certain item qualities dropping. In brief terms, a value of 512 in this column would double the odds of that quality dropping. A value of 1024 should make it almost guaranteed.

These modifiers also exist on act bosses for example, which are 983/983/983/1024 (for non-quest). Most of the superuniques (eg Izual, Heph) have modifiers as well.

Other than that, the summoner has a 1:16 chance of dropping a ring in a players 1 game.

Excellent, thanks! That would be pretty consistent with the ring drops I got from him - if a little lower. As far as the exact ratio you provided is concerned, I know if I checked the results on far more than 50 runs (more like 500, for it to be statistically meaningful) it would even out and be a whole lot closer to 1:16. I'll chalk the 1 per 7 runs I got up to 'luck', despite the fact that they were all lousy.

Thanks again, Orphan!

I'm not questioning the numbers, however, I think it was "of luck" suffix the question was about. (The one with up to 35% MF). I believe this would radically change the desired ilvl.

Indeed it will. My bad for the initial amulet. For some reason during my calcs I thought it was "of fortune" again. Lets try this again.

"Fortuitous amulet of Luck". You'll want an amulet with an ilvl of 26. At this level, you'll have a 4/126 chance of getting the "Fortuitous" prefix and a 4/147 chance of getting the "of luck" suffix.

The odds of getting this amulet at ilvl 26 is 1:4630. For comparison sake, the odds of getting this amulet at ilvl 99 is 1:13542.

Monsters who are mlvl 26 on normal include:
Cliff Lurker (Outer Steppes)
Burning Soul (Plains of Despair)
Mephisto (Durance of Hate lvl 3)

You could also make a lvl 35 character, save ALL your magical rings, mule them onto the lvl 35, and cube 3 and 3 to make amulets of ilvl 26.

Going from expirience, you'll find a LOT of magical rings during Lower Kurast runs. One more thing to pick up :D
