Does the "X" represent life points? If so, does the damage scale up in nightmare and hell? The biggest numbers I've ever seen for any of these modifiers are in the 20s, but if that's life points, and it DOESN'T scale up on the higher difficulties, aren't these modifiers kind of worthless? I mean, not taking 20 points of 500 points of damage is not (typically) going to save your bacon on hell difficulty.

Attacker takes Damage of X is worthless in NM and Hell, but Damage reduced by X (PDR) is extremely powerful in PvM. Monsters don't do nearly the same physical damage as players do. 120 PDR is godly. 50-60 PDR is extremely good. SSoG used to have a guide up about an Abbot Paladin that used PDR, resist gear, and meditation/prayer, to stand in nearly any Hell pack without dying. Fanatic Frenzy Lords were one of the few examples that could kill him.

Attacker Takes Damage of X is useless except as a leveling tool (it does make a great leveling tool, though- a character equipped with a lot of ATD gear can get to level 20 with little to no effort).

"Damage Reduced by X" is known as "straight damage reduction", "integer damage reduction", or just plain old PDR (my method of choice to refer to it), and is wildly underrated. People really overestimate how much damage monsters can do in hell. Weak Hell monsters might deal 60 damage per hit, tough archer packs might deal 80, and even the strongest of Hell Monsters (such as Cows, Venom Lords, and Minions of Destruction) only deal in the 140-160 damage range- the reason monsters are so deadly isn't because they do so much per hit, but because a crowd forms and they hit you so many times (especially deadly with Archers). You can also get massive amounts of PDR if you're so inclined. The "of life everlasting" suffix can spawn on amulets and circlets and gives up to 25 PDR each. Stuff four Sols into your shield and armor, get a 2-Sol'd Circlet of Life Everlasting and an Amulet of Life Everlasting, and you're looking at 120 PDR- enough to negate all damage from any except the very hardest of hitters (Venom Lords, Frenzytaurs, Minions of Destruction, Cows), unless the monsters wind up being Might or Fana enchanted, or sometimes Extra Strong. With the best PDR rig possible, you're looking at over 180 points of PDR. Yowza.

If that's the case, then I just cubbed a great amulet. I did the prismatic amulet recipe - I got 19% resist all and "of life everlasting" which gave damage reduced by 22!

If you're on realms, there are people who would pay big for that. Personally, I constantly use the Prismatic recipe looking for a Prismatic of Life Everlasting. Also, whenever I reach level 60+, I start saving rings and constantly cube them (3 rings + transmute = 1 amulet with ilvl = 75% of clvl). Level 60 is when "Life Everlasting" becomes available. I've gotten quite a large stash of PDR gear in SP, including my personal pride and joy, a Chromatic Amulet of Life everlasting with 24% resist all and 25 PDR.

I am, but this is a non-ladder character, meaning the pool of interested people will be lower than otherwise - pretty much everyone I know plays on ladder. And by paying big what do you mean - I'm a noob when it comes to trading - I have no idea what anything is worth. I could never understand the whole SoJ fascination a few years back and why those rings were so coveted. I've never seen of life everlasting on a chromatic amulet - then again, those would be rarer given there's no recipe to craft them from.
