In the statistics forum, I think [img] tags are allowed. That tag, and the URL of the picture should do it?

(on pretty thin ice when it comes to pictures myself....)

Only at statistic forum... thats sad, would make wonders if you could do it in tradeforums also. As a pic of an gosu item would certainly raise the price

Instead of URL tags you have to use IMG tags. It doesn't work in every forum. Here it does.

Click on "quote" and have a look at it. :wink3:

There's a very specific reason only this section allows it, though you can still link to an externally hosted source in any.

Why not ?

There are people who don't have broadband internet access. Pictures from random persons might need a lot of time to get downloaded if all you have is ISDN or an analog line.

So people with ISDN or analog line cant really enjoy the statistic forum as much as us.. isnt that kind of segregating?

I will not speak here in this thread anymore :lipsrsealed:

Actually, if people without broadband don't want to see random pictures, they can turn off image loading in their preferences and they'll be unaffected. It's more that images are usually uploaded to the server, and having them litter the trade/community forums tend to overload the bandwidth and storage space (not to mention the 'inappropriate' pictures). This is something I totally agree with, as we here in Statistics tend to use them when it's appropriate, and rarely at that.

There is, however, a picture section as part of DiabloII.Net, and that doesn't overload since you specifically must go there (also somewhat protecting against inappropriateness). I think it was set up in response to places like Imageshack, who tend to host more links from people here. So, having our own PIXHDD makes it easier on everyone - just cut and paste the link from your control panel folder.

This would be a great feature in the trading forums, and even in the community forum .

That would mean they cannot see any pictures at all. Also, in contrast to images on web sites, The uploaded pictures here sometimes have a size of several hundreds of K. Even with DSL it takes a while to load e.g. the bragging thread about rares if there are 20 screenshots to be loadad. With an analog line you only have about 35 kbps while you have 20-500 times as much with broadband.

Bandwidth is also one of the reasons for disallowing images in sigs and the avatar size limit of 75x75 pixels.

Damn it, snowman, I just said that! :P Turning off image loading would likely have multiple features, like all/non-avatars/imbedded/etc. Besides, avatars rarely change and can/should be cached, eliminating the need for most delays. Anyway, we here in Statistics forum without signatures don't care either way. |)

I should have read all the thread's post before posting .
