We all know the current ladder season is well on it's way of reaching 2 years, and no one even has a clue as to when or even if the ladder will reset.
The thing that annoys me most is this:
http://www.battle.net/tournaments/season5/
Warcraft3 is by far not as old as Diablo2, yet they're already in their fifth season? And WC3 is also free to play?
I know I've been thrilled a few times when I saw: "new ladder season!" in the bnet newslist, yet only to be dissappointed when opening it and reading the words "warcraft..." Who feels the same way?
(Sometimes I think it's almost as if it's toomuch work to reset the ladder, like they have to retype all the names of the characters in all the lists, to delete them orso :laugh: )

I too pray for a ladder reset that may never come...
It seems logical that a newer game would have more resets, to keep momentum going? Maybe D2 is so established that they don't feel the need to reset?
We're so the abused partners of the online roleplaying world - no matter how crazy lag gets and how stagnant the ladder, we'll keep coming back.
Well I know I will....
if there will be ladder reset for the sake of ladder reset i'll quit at the spot.

Certainly duping and botting is a major issue in the decision to reset. Afterall, resetting without fixing those problems effectively does nothing. Since they don't want to invest the time or money right now into actually looking into how to stop these current problems a reset wouldn't actually accomplish anything. If you really want to try something new and challenging for a change do what I did.....new HC untwinked character.
i'v playd hc long time ago, didint get the thrill of doing that. and on the other hand i dont have time for that die and start all over crap atm
Nor do I, which is why I was going to try to make this one last. I'm being more cautious than ever and I must say it's quite fun, especially on /p8. It's also great when I don't have to worry about lag or c/i.

reset without fixing would only be good for online shops (there are so many of these so someone MUST use them lol)
its not about the challenge. im happy as it is now, i just dont want the reset for the sake of reset.

I got 3 things to say (not really related to your quote though :grin: )
1) I just want a new ladder to get the massive thrill of everyone starting again, and now I can actually join in, not having to worry anymore about anything, just have to see I get to work on time :rolleyes:
2) You've been here for 5 months, and you already have a 10k postcount... :shocked: But I have seen you around in many threads ;-)
3) And this is my 4444th post :jig:

Maybe they are doing a 2 year ladder and it will end sometime this July.

Season 1: October 28, 2003 - July 9, 2004 => 8.5 months
Season 2: July 9, 2004 - August 8, 2005 => 13 months
Season 3: August 8, 2005 - N/A
At the moment we're almost 22 months far.
Maybe we can setup a thread for reset-date speculations, only people who believe it will actually reset can participate, and only 1 guess can be made by every person, closest person wins a price? :rolleyes:

prize = A NEW LADDER!
Like one poster already mentioned, common sense tells me the only reason the ladder is not reseted is because Blizzard don't want to make those shop owners have an even easier time leeching money out of their game.
With each reset there's a bunch of people who spend money on these websites, to be one step above the rest, or whatever the reason is. If I was Blizzard I wouldn't reset the ladder either, unless I found a way to stop these "organizations" from duping items that sell for real cash.
In fact, I'd probably be really pissed and would've shut down Battle.net ages ago, heh.

Isnt there like a petition or something somewhere for a new ladder reset? blizzard knows how many people play d2, if a huuuge number of them sign a petition for a reset wouldnt they just reset it?

Well, the only prizes I can think off:
[X) prize (=> problem)]
1) ingame items (=> most members have enough items, and who will give them, and what about other realms?)
2) free pal (=> that would be too expensive, too much worth for doing nothing)
3) one hour green name (=> maybe no one will notice it because you'd have no real "power" and let's no go to the road of actually giving real power...)
4) some sort of award, be it temporary or in some sort of sticky thread, where you also post the results of each "annual awards" and "forum assassin winners"?
Bongstrocity

if the prize were in-game items, i'm thinking that right after a ladder reset wouldn't be the best time for it since nobody would have anything left except on open characters....?

Depending how this goes, I might be able to help some.
1) ingame items (=> most members have enough items, and who will give them, and what about other realms?)I play on three realms, so depending what we deem the prize would be (as far as quality), I could probably help with this.
2) free pal (=> that would be too expensive, too much worth for doing nothing)Bronze really isn't that expensive. Since this is for a game type of thing, I wouldn't mind sponsoring for a one-month Bronze Palship to the winner (if they are not currently a Pal).
3) one hour green name (=> maybe no one will notice it because you'd have no real "power" and let's no go to the road of actually giving real power...)As neat as that sounds, I don't see it happening. Maybe they can change the color to purple instead. :evil:
4) some sort of award, be it temporary or in some sort of sticky thread, where you also post the results of each "annual awards" and "forum assassin winners"?Also depending on how it goes...I might consider keeping the link in my sig for a short time.
Any other ideas?

Well, I said it semi because I had these ideas (and it might be a good idea to get all those people who spread rumors and so to get them in one thread, would save a lot time deleting all the others, a game might be more interesting to check than the rules :rolleyes: ), and semi as a joke, so depending how Gorny feels about it, we'll see how it goes I guess?
Well for ingame prizes, Bongstrocity already brought up that it might not be of much use, since the winner will only have a day or 2 to make use/trade those items, then the ladder resets.
About the pal thingy, I wouldn't mind putting that up either, but as said a few times before, it feels a bit ridiculous to go get a visa or paypal and monthly/yearly pay for that, just so I can donate to this site.
(With this idea, I was actually referring to something I've seen here before, that some winner was offered a free membership for 3 months orso, so not somuch that someone actually pays for it, but that Gorny arranges something with Elly, still I think that's a bit overpaying the winner)
Purple and brown (anyone else likes these guys? :grin: )
I did consider to put that up instead of green, but it doesn't seem as "adventurous" to me.
EDIT: those were all my ideas (for now) if I think of any more, I'll post them here, meanwhile, I'd say wait for a word from Gorny (I'm not sure if he was serious, or joking with the prize reply)

I forget which sport it was, but palships were awarded for those that guessed the closest to the actual outcome of the game (or something like that).

The game = guessing when the ladder resets.
A few days before it does, Blizzard announces it, and then we know who got the closest date.
So that person will only have a few days to enjoy it.

In that case the items wouldn't work as a prize, and now I can see why you think a palship would be an overpay as well. Maybe we should just stick with changing the name color to purple. :laugh:

I'd track down a Blizzard employee and absolutely Jack Bauer them if it meant I could bring the information back here and get my name in purple. I think that would be one of the highest forum honors ever awarded.

However if they have a commemorative reset or something, I'll try sc again

WC3 is a different type of game. D2 takes time to gather gear and get to the high levels. WC3 is one game and nothing transfers over from game to game other than your ranking. Rankings change quickly as well probably. Maybe we should concentrate more on getting to lvl 99 than gathering gear to duel with in D2 and they may pay more attention to us.

I realize that reseting the ladder right now with all the duping, hacking, botting etc would be pretty much a waste, but I can't help thinking that all those people on Bnet that are into L33t Itamz and basically don't really know how to play the game and go around insulting everyone with the word noob for not having the perfect gear would not bother to try and restart from scratch on a new ladder, and in turn would just stay on non ladder, making the ladder a bit better place to play with less idiots.
Think about it, how many of these types of people would be able to make it without there Enigma's, CtA's, Infinity's, Grief's etc basically untwinked, how many of them would want to? I'm guessing that they will want to keep there precious Itamz and stick to non-ladder. Also, considering how many people stocked up on Spirit's, Insight's and other ladder only items, there wouldn't really be a need for them to go back to ladder.
I know this would turn out to be a bit crappy for those who like to play on Non-ladder, but to me I have always perceived Non-ladder for those who like to duel and play old chars for nostalgia, and Ladder for those who like to MF, Quest, Level and whatnot, while I know that ain't true for everyone, its how I see it sometimes.
Just wondering though, if anyone else thinks this could maybe happen IF its ever reset?
Oh, and I like the contest thing idea, one prize could be something like a MF set-up for a Sorc on the new ladder, its easy enough to accomplish and don't cost much, just will take a bit to find once, if ever, the ladder restarts.
ok people, here come stupid question --> what is ladder reset.
I always thought its only list of chars in chart, you know who first got clvl 99, but from this thread i got inpretion like theres clearing of all chars and stuf...
so ?

a ladder reset is effectively exactly what it sounds like. the upshot is that when the ladder is reset, all ladder character are converted to nonladder characters (open bnet). anybody who wishes to play ladder after that point must create new characters from scratch.
edit: thanks again, dii legend. i was mistaken if that is the case. never played nonladder (and have deleted all characters who weren't on the ladder as soon as resets occurred. god i want a reset or nine.)

You are mistaken. A nonladder character is not an open battle.net character. It remains on closed battle.net, the only thing being they cannot play in ladder games anymore. When the ladder is reset, the characters become nonladder. If you wish to continue playing ladder you will have to start from scratch...but your current characters will still remain, they just will not be a "ladder character" anymore.

Actually no, there are more people on ladder than on nonladder.
Whenever a ladder resets, most players want to make/gather items that only spawn on ladder, they want the thrill of starting in a fresh economy where everyone is poor, they want to race to stay as long as possible in the list of the ladder.
Nonladder poses no challenge, everything is 100x cheaper and easier to get, you already have tons and tons of stuff and characters, there is no goal to be reached anymore there.
If anyone starts to play the game from scratch, ladder is the way to go, since they'll miss out on several options (cube recipes, ladder items, ladder runewords) if they play on nonladder.
