View Full Version : Bear Sorc: warmth and FM useless?

It seems that almost all of the damage a bear sorc does is from lightning. If you have 8 lightning charms and 7 skills from gear (about what I'm planning on), that gives (masteries are applied twice to physical damage for these skills, courtesy of adeyke from the Amazon Basin):

~26k melee lightning = 834 avg (1-1668 30 HS) * 5.58 (35 LM) * 5.58 (35 LM)

~4k melee fire = 366 avg (327-406 27 enchant with 20 warmth) * 3.12 (27 FM) * 3.12 (27 FM)

So it seems warmth and fire mastery are pretty much useless (I might have messed up the calculations a bit, but they should be pretty close).

Therefore, wouldn't it be better to use those 40 points for ES? I know being a bear and using ES are complete opposites (points to vit vs points to ene), but you'd basically be a straight ES build and using the bear life for damage that got through. Max Enchant, LM, ES, TK. Plus, ES would be helpful for teleporting when not in bear form.

Or am I missing something about fire damage that's useful?

hmm.. after reading your post twice i came to wonder if es works in bear form? or cold armors/thunder storm.

i really have no clue about this one. been only dreaming of melee sorc since dual dream sorcs came out

And how would you kill lightning immunes without any fire damage and only very little physical damage? 4k fire damage with infinity merc and at a 5 frame attack still is much.

Es is kinda useless imho. Bear and lycanthrophy boost life and for es you are going to put points in energy. Also it's very easy to get good res on a bearsorc and es is counted before resists. Only skills that remain then are tstorm wich is only nice for pvp and the cold armors wich are nice if you get above 10k def in pvm. But fire damage to make dual elemental build is much better then for pvm.

Mastery is only applied twice on Enchant, Venom, or Holy Fire/Shock/Freeze- not on Lightning Small Charms, or any other gear-based source of elemental damage.

Anyway, yes, you're missing something. The fire damage from a high-level, highly synergized Enchant can be quite significant- at the really high end, we're talking about more than 20,000 per hit. If you're hitting 4-5 times per second, that's 80,000-100,000 damage per second right there. I'd generally call 100,000 fire damage per second "useful", but that's just me. :azn:

Yes, ES/Cold Armor/Thunder Storm all work in Bear form. Every single passive skill in the game will persist if you shift forms (even Holy Shield, which will continue to drastically speed up your blocking speed, and D/A/E, despite the fact that there are no animations for a dodging bear).
