View Full Version : PDR verses Ubers?

For clarification PDR is "damage reduced by x," not to be confused with DR which is "damage reduced by %."
Some of you may be familiar with my massive PDR Barbarian (http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=550206), which takes no damage from the Minions of Destruction in Hell. I've developed a sort of fixation with the PDR modifier, and I believe it is the most overlooked aspect of the game.
Moving on. I'm wondering if PDR might have any application verses the Ubers. Most of the damage people have problems with comes from lightning and Mephisto's Conviction, but assuming that could be dealt with, might it be beneficial to add PDR as well? Where can I find numbers on how much physical damage the Ubers deal? If it's less than 300 per hit, PDR will still be better than DR in terms of reducing damage taken from them. Though I'm not yet convinced that such a reduction would help significantly.
Any thoughts?
Edit: I should mention that I'm not planning on going after Ubers with that Barbarian. I'm using a kick/trap Assassin hybrid.
My 1600 health Paladin is almost elementally immune against regular monsters (80/80/90/75 resists, cold and lightning absorb), but from memory the strongest attack in Uber Tristram drops his health by a third in one hit. I presume this to be a physical attack.
I know that Lilith can drop my health to less than half in one blow, and can one-hit-kill mr if I'm Amped. This suggests well over 800 damage per hit.

I must admit, this was one of my first thoughts when I saw your PDR Barb in action. I was mightily impressed then, I'm really looking forward to seeing your research with this/any work you might do on this in the future. After the last PDR'er, I'm definitely prepared to agree with you - it's a very highly undervalued part of the game.
Hope this goes well for you with the Ubers, if you do decide to try it out. (You might have to toss in some lightning absorb for Meph. A couple Wisps, perhaps?)
I know this is an old thread, but any chance for an update? I'm curious as well.
The ubers do about 400 - 500 dmg per hit, with one player in the game. At 8 players, it's about 550 - 725, which can then critical into 1100 - 1450 dmg. PDR% will be far more effective than plain PDR against them.

However, what about after we factor in all their minions? Aside from mephisto and his conviction aura, I find I take more damage from them (because there are so many) than I do the ubers themselves.
The truth is, we've all fought dclone and know he is pretty much a joke. The real danger in uber tristram lies in the swarming minions.
Any data on some of their figures?

I think an Abbot build with stacked resists might be a better choice vs. the ubers via PDR... I had that same thought a while ago, but lack the motovation to try...

rtb really scares me with his vast knowledge
I'd say forget PDR of either variety, get a rising sun ammy, and get swarmed by pit lords.

Haha, you answered a question, before I could ask it. I recently did the Ubers and wanted to show my mates, that my budget Smiter could even do it without BO. Maxed res ( after conviction ), absorb, max block, decent fhr, big def and 1,2k life made me pretty confident, until one the prime evils decided to literally kill me in a single blow. I was kind of shocked and curious, how he could do it. Well question answered.
*mental note* Get some %DR

A little add:
The mini Ubers seem to be able to deal the same amount and since there are usually other monsters arround them, expect the worst if damage auras or cursing is involved. Yesterday we did mini Ubers and since I received a decent BO I thought that nothing could touch me with my almost 3k life. Lilith thought she would give it a try, after some boss close to her cursed me with amp and almost one-hitted me ( there was less then maybe 100 life left ).
While we're talking about massive damage does RTB or anyone know how much super-Mephisto's "skull" missile does, and whether it has any physical damage? I thought it was about the strongest single monster hit in the game.
MephistoMissile (Ice ball/Skull thingy.)
Size: 2
Base dmg (physical):
Norm, Slvl 5: 44 - 48
NM, Slvl 8: 80 - 84
Hell, Slvl 12: 120 - 124
Base dmg (cold):
Norm, Slvl 5: 84 - 98, 175 frames chill = 7 sec
NM, Slvl 8: 138 - 158, 250 frames chill = 10 sec
Hell, Slvl 12: 234 - 270, 350 frames chill = 14 sec
Damage is independant of players in the game, and the skill has a 5% chance to deal double dmg.
