View Full Version : Qwerky things you do when playing. . .

You know. . . everytime I run Baal, I go gather all the gold before I start in on him. I don't know why I do this. . .but I just always have.

Then I started thinking about the other stuff I do that's kinda qwerky. Like I never want to kill the countess in her little room. I always try to get her to come out into one of the side chambers before killing her. I don't know why I do this either. . .but I always have and still do to this day.

So like, what do you all do that's kinda qwerky when you play?

superdave

i always stomp the three critters that pop out of evil urns.

PhatTrumpet
25-05-2007, 03:50
I always clear Tristram going around counter-clockwise, saving Cain last, whether I'm there for the quest or solely for exp (which isn't often).

I always start in the upper-left direction when doing the Arcane Sanctuary, proceeding counter-clockwise, unless there's a particularly annoying configuration for whatever character I'm using (like stairs on a Summon Necro).

I always clear the Chaos Sanctuary clockwise, leaving Infector of Souls last.

I think that's it... I guess those aren't really quirky as much as they're just my system of doing things... does that count as quirky?

I can't stand leaving gold on the ground. I HAVE to pick it up

WrongdayJ

Hehehehe. . .Yup. Qwerky. But it's funny. . .I do the same things!

I thought I was the only one that cleared Chaos like that.

Hmm.

Wierd.

I think I'll expand the scope of this to include things you do outside the game. . .like wearing a lucky hat while MFing (which I do, too )

Dacar92
25-05-2007, 04:14
I do the same, Phat, except for Arcane. Quirky yes, but if so many do the same, it's not so weird, I guess.

I drink while playing (on Friday's only). Is that quirky?

WrongdayJ
25-05-2007, 04:18
. . .I drink while playing (on Friday's only). Is that quirky?. . .

Uh, no.

Matter of Fact, drinking on Friday while playing is required, not quirky.

Well if you are a bowzon, shooting at the countess and her minions through the doorway from the side room isn't qwerky. That's good game play. Though I always approach her from the right, habit I guess.

I always try to kill the summoner on the bottom right in Andy's chamber first. He bugs me.

I can't stand leaving gold on the ground. I HAVE to pick it up

I have the same problem. If I have a low level char that's too full to pick up more gold, I'll just gamble away a lot of what I have in order to pick up more.

longblackhairguy
25-05-2007, 09:27
haha, I always leave de seis for last, especially if my char is there for the 1st time. I also make sure i clear out every last monster in the main area before i hit his seal.

I almost never go to cain for identify even if i walk right past him like on the way to charsi going straight out my tp, even tho i do the quest for that reason anyway.

I always go to the bottom right of tristram then towards cain's gibbet, out again and around clockwise. i then go from the bottom left to the center, get cain, and then out the same way and continue around clockwise. weird..

with noob chars, i cant leave a potion behind in act 1 or 2, unless my inv is full and i have the largest ones that are lying around.

when skipping through the frozen tundra and areat plateau (in my opinion the 2 worst areas in A5 for char) i always go anticlockwise around the edge of the map.

when running from Bremm sparfists hydra and LE bolts, i always go anticlockwise around the pillars at the bottom right chamber of durance 3

lol, this is fun :P i think it should be sticky'd or something

KOMARAC
25-05-2007, 12:03
hehe yeah i too think it should be stickied for a while ... i always reveal maps by walking on the edge and then reveal the center and everything else. when i'm full on carying gold, i always go and gamble all gold on char, stash should be always full for me, cause you'll never know ... it seems that we all have the "must pick up gold" bug in our heads =) ! i always wish to kill baal beetwen the pillars i don't know why ... ! must be habit ... can't think of anything else right now ... :) oh yeah, when i do boss runs, i always go first with baal, then diablo, then meph, then duriel, then andariel ... then save and exit game then again ...

GotFriana

I cant leave gold behind but even more than that i just cant-leave-any-chest-unopened, if I dont have a key I tp and buy some just to open that chest. I cast tps even standing right by the wp (but that s just the bad habit, not that I do it on purpose).
When playing bowzon if I run out of arrows I try to continue until I find more (I dont go back to buy arrows)
I like to clean the area out of town in act1 hell, I do it almost every game to visit the houses and the chests there, I ve found really nice charms and amulets in those chests.

WrongdayJ

. . .When playing bowzon if I run out of arrows I try to continue until I find more (I dont go back to buy arrows). . .

 I do the same thing!!! LOL!

I'll run around like 4 screens worth of space to find arrows/bolts on the ground before I go back into town and buy them. . .even though they're only like 30 gold for 350/250 of them.

Some Act III wierdness, I will never exit game in Act III will got through red portal or TP to town and then to Act IV. Also if Merc dies in Act III will either go o Act I or IV to replace. To lazy to walk through to rehire.

crawlingdeadman
25-05-2007, 20:34
i run sanc clockwise.

with a bowa i pick up every arrow quiver off the ground to make sure i have max at all times. i like to have a full inventory so that when i pick them up they drop on the ground and you only take enough to fill up your quiver (so i dont have to pick up and drop them agian, which i do anyway).

i cary a flawless on every character that MIGHT run into a gem shrine...ie all of them.

when i rush someone with a sorc i make them put a tp up at the arcane wp so that if i get the wrong arm i say "not it", tp, then telek through their portal back to the center of arcane (as opposed to teleing around the whole thing. this avoids the in and out of tps too fast thing). if i rush with a hammerdin i just open tp and vigor run across town to the wp.

on all my pvm zons i keep tps in my belt so that i dont have to go through the cast animation which is slow as hell on a zon w/o any fcr. this lets me put up a tp mid strafe.

there are more i'm sure.

nickedoff
25-05-2007, 22:25
Whenever I make a new character, even if I know they're going to get glitch rushed, I play through act one and snag all the chipped gems I can. I feel more comfortable playing a character with at least a chipped ruby Light Armor on than I do with a completely naked character.

Just remembered another of my habits.

I keep excessive spares for potions and arrows/bolts. I have a full belt/quiver, but also keep an extra row of potions or another quiver in my inventory at all times. I sometimes even have two rows/quivers in my inventory. Yes. I have spare spares.

i always seem to pick up (and stash) every full rejuv i find, even if i have no use for it "it might come in handy later"

i'm also picking up way too many flawless gems "shinies! i like shinies! Ooooohhh"

Bjorgin

I have a terrible habit of not picking up full juvs, and i intentionally do not pick them up because i dont like having them.

Dacar92
27-05-2007, 01:13
I pick all full rejuvs, too. I keep one row in my belt, and always have 20 or so in the stash--way to many but I still do it..for some reason.

I pick up all items worth 35K in hell and sell them. I also pick up just about all gold that falls.

I always start Arcane runs from the upper-right path, and always go clockwise. Dunno why, just a habit.

My MF runs always go backwards in order of Waypoint/Quest order. So, in a full run I'll do, in order, Baal, Pindle, Eldritch, Shenk, Chaos, Meph, Trav, Arcane, Andy, Pit, Countess, rinse and repeat.

My MF Meteorb uses the F1-F8 hotkeys still, while all my other characters make use of QWERASDFZXCV keys. She's the only character I do that with, it's what I'm most comfortable with.

I smoosh all the big bugs after killing Duriel. mmm, tasty...

This is great stuff!

I am laughing as I read this thread because almost every entry is something that I have either done or at least thought about doing at some time or another.

I think I found another querky behavior of mine that qualifies. During normal play. . .or even when MFing through an area in a hurry. . .if something starts aggressively running after me, it dies. Without question. I can't stand having an enemy track me down. Especially a puny one. I will stop the MF run and chase that sucker down relentlessly until it's dead.

. . .and I smoosh those worms in Duriels room, too. . .:jig:

One reason why my MF runs are never so much "run" and take me a long time :P Dolls in Durance... die, die, die, even with my sorcs I stop teleing and kill them. And then of course there s a chest there that I have to pop, and I see another on the other corner... in short my MF runs take long...

I ve noticed yesterday other habits of mine, I only use gems, exp and monster shrines, I walk by the others without touching them and I always drink from wells even when I m at full hit points and not cursed, if I see one I touch it.

Every time i do act 1, esp on normal for some reason, i tell myself I'm not gonna waste my time with doing the countes quest, but i always do it anyway!

I also have a habit of using potions and identify scrolls in town. too lazy to go to cain :P

and with my sorc i always cast my buffer spells at least twice before going back into action.

If I die from a nasty boss (last one for me was an extra fast, mana burn, conviction afflicted in ancients way.. ouch) or before I've found the nearst
waypoint, i'll rather S&E and lose the exp, especially if i skip the tundra or plateau (my most hated areas of A5) waypoints and die in subsequent caves.

Speaking of casting decoy, sometimes I forget I have decoy active on one of the mouse buttons and think that I already switched it back to strafe or something else. If it is a busy screen (lots of critters and/or friends I am playing with) I'll cast decoy over and over again until I realize that I'm not strafing. I do the same thing with TP's now and then. What can I say? I am old and forgetful.

I was just wondering the same thing. I think he's gone feral! Losing track of threads, and such. :wink2:

On topic: Until recently I had a habit of refreshing all my mules whenever they get below 7 days until expiration. I'd do it like clockwork, just in case something happens and I have to step away from D2 for seven or eight days for some reason.

So of course I got a temp ban a couple days ago just from switching characters - no entering games or anything - and instead of sulking, I did a big mule giveaway (community threads) as soon as the temp ban expired. Giving away all excess equipment, that'll show 'em not to temp ban me! ...Somehow...

On characters where I haven't rescued Cain I buy and use scrolls of ID, "because it is cheaper."

I tend to keep chipped gems on all my PvM characters, even when I am way past anywhere where they drop, so I will never manage to cube them up.

I like places where I can put my character behind another sprite and so I stand there for a while and simply type "!hiding!" whenever another character walks past.

My SC stash of chippies is in the thousands. While I could use these to role weapons for early characters and their mercs, I also have better twink weapons than I could possible role for them, so, there the sit, gather electronic dust.

Same goes for my stash of flaweds, and you can't use them in any recipe other than making normals or Savage poles.

No, wait, the real reason I am holding onto all these chips and flaweds is to cube runes. Yeah, that's the reason. Once my El stash reaches the hundreds of thousands, Zod, here I come.

Some of these things are too funny!
1. I always drink unless I have to help it. That way I can accuse my bud of using my account and dieing while I was sleeping when I check my exp bar the next day.

2. I have a habit of running over to a friend that died and hitting the "Die!" key until I hear it...occasionally resulting in my own death. Still a habit I carry even at level 95 :-P

3. If my Valk walks back toward me when I cast her I will recast her as the first one wasn't agressive enough or something.

Heh, I've noticed I do something not unlike this. Whenever my 'sin's shadow goes and dragon flights some monster I teleport at my feet to get the shadow back in place, I guess I like having a minionstack up when possible.

I've also recast Valkyries many times in a row to get a color I like at that given moment (which I think is pretty mood dependent). I've also found this often irks people in baal runs.

I do the same thing, except with any potion I have. The belt usually has 2 rows of healing, 1 row of mana, and 1 row rejuvenation. Then my inventory has 2/1/1 or 4/2/2 healing/mana/rejuvenation.

Also, if I have different qualities of potions (e.g. greater and super), I'll try to have my belt potions have all the same quality, even if it isn't the best I have.
