i'm going for a no-summon, daggermancer for PvM and I'm still deciding whether or not to go for bone armour and leave curse levels for gear and skillers. obviously, 60 pts are straight into poison skills, and after a pt in each curse and prereqs for Pnova, that leaves me 20 for BA and 19 for BW. according to skillcalc, that gives me just under 500 physical absorb, probably more hp than most necs out there. the other option would be the offensive route for spirit and spear, helping a lot with immunities and hi res to poison.

if you're going for defense use 1 point in bone armor, 20 bone wall, 18 bone prison and you'll get more protection. i never made a daggermancer but i can imagine they're really slow at killing if you only use the dagger attack.

thanks that really helps though i haven't put anything in besides curses prereqs and dagger since i'm still only at level 16. it does seem slow at first but when you killing things with one stab and combining this with curse control, poison nova and explosion and a good merc it wont be that slow i dont think.

if you're using poison nova then you're a novamancer :p but ofc with nova is faster, 1 nova and everything dies

lol, i actually play tested it at level 99 with an editor last night with cheap gear with the ideal build and found that nova is a bit heavy on mana for the build unless you push for plus mana and regen since anything that doesn't die outright with hi poison resist will have to be hit every 2 seconds with nova making dagger a much better boss killer.

I'd suggest reading the daggermancer guide by darnocpdx in the strategy compendium. http://strategy.diabloii.net/news.php?id=582
I used the guide to get through to patriarch with few problems. The one thing I saw as essential in the build was my clay golem, since the merc tends to die rather quickly against any unique or champion packs, and another tank is needed, plus he slows monsters down which makes bosses alot easier. If your really experienced with the use of the necro curses and bone wall/prison it can be done, but it would be very difficult. ONe thing I would suggest you get is a source of venom since it stacks with pd making it a much faster killer.

Is this a good build for a poison dagger necro?

MAX P Dagger, P Explosion and P Nova
1 in ALL curses, maybe a few more points in lower resist (this will be my major curse, since it can lower enemies' posion resistance)
at least 1 point in Clay Golem, Golem Mastery and Summon Resist
1 point in CE, Teeth, Bone Armor and Bone Spear
The rest into Bone Wall/Prison

STR - enough for equipment
DEX - enough for a reasonable amount of block (as I will use Trang shield, it is hard to attain 75% blocking, I may only aim at somthing like 65-70% blocking)
VIT - everything else
ENG - zilch

Equipment:
Weapon: Fleshripper
Armor : Treachery (will switch to Bramble if I can afford the runes)
Shield : Trang's Shield (maybe socket with an Eld for a better blocking rate)
Glove : Trang's Glove
Belt : Trang's Belt
Helm : Vampire Gaze
Boot : Gore Rider
Amulet : Angelic Amulet
Ring 1 : Angelic Ring
Ring 2 : Raven Frost

If youre going to use the dagger then investing in Dexterity also increases the damage hence I wouldnt place an eld in there for the extra blocking but actually put a PDiamond or an Um in there. Furthermore Dex increases AR by +5 I think. I might be wrong here but you might want to wait for other opinions.

Im assuming that you are goign to use P.Dagger as youre main skill and not Nova since you are wearing angelics. Also do you still require the Angelic Set after maxing Poison Dagger? I would say that 80% is a reasonable hit % in my opinion. Furthermroe doesnt fleshripper have Ignore Target Defense. Which should mean that you shouldnt have a problem withr egular monsters anyway. I use a Blessed Aim Merc since Im fine with Bone Wall and the curses I have and I tend to hit around 75 - 80%.

thx for ur comments
as far as I know, putting points into DEX only increase AR but not physical damage. Only STR can increase physical damage

I agree that resistance are extremely important to melee necromancer, but socketing with Eld rune enable less points into DEX (hence more points into VIT), thus it's simply a trade-off

For Dagger type weapons both Dex and Str increase the weapon damage.
