Pvp Poison Bowazon
Whisper in the Wind
I’ve seen a lot of people asking for a PVP bowazon guide. That uses poison to accommodate their guided arrows. Your wishes have been answered, as this is the ultimate guide. This is my first guide as well so please bare with me.
Now, some information for people who haven’t played a bowazon at all yet or are unfamiliar with the build Zon’s are a lot like sorc’s they are made NOT to get hit, do not expect to stand toe2toe with a ww barb and expect to live. Also as a bowazon your job is to be on offense, NOT defense. When on defense you are dead, if you’re looking for a one hit wonder in pvp, then you’re in the wrong thread. If your looking for a rambo pvp character, then your also in the wrong thread. In the upper tier duels, zons can simply not one hit kill, with the exception of some sorcs…
Bow’s basically use gorilla war tactics to win in pvp, or if you prefer a boxing term STICK N MOVE. Never EVER stand still, unless your strafing some poor dumb soul running straight at you. Other then that move and shoot. You are not a tank; you are a sharpshooter act like it!
In the cold fields of blood moore, a half dressed blonde amazon awaits with her trusty bow ready for action. She runs in the shadows keeping her self hidden. As she fires off rounds of arrows, that seem to track her targets movements. As the arrow lands, it takes a chunk of her enemies life away, as they hunt for her, their life drips slowly away from them. Slowly the poison from her arrow, seeps further into their bloodstream. As they fall to their knees, almost lifeless, just then the mighty amazon, steps out of the shadows into the limelight. Standing infront of her fallen prey, and mercilessly fires an arrow straight down, putting her enemy down to rest ashes to ashes.
Stats:
Strength- Enough for gear, which can be varying depending on what bow you use as well as the quality of your torch and anni etc.
Dex- Options explained below
Vitality- same as dex
Energy- NONE
Now there are two train of thoughts, with respect to dex and vita, both of which makes perfectly good sense. If your making this for mostly pvm, then more vita would be your best choice. If your looking for an uber killing machine in pvp then all dex, which would make you a glass cannon. I’ve even had some people go half half, which I strongly suggest not doing. It makes your damage lacking and health lacking, pick one.
Skill Set up
Guided Arrow-Max it
This is your bread n butter, in PVP, it follows your target and ignores defense.
Dodge/Avoid/Evade- 12+
These skills unfortunately suffer diminishing returns, with a faith bow, anni, and torch. You’ll have 16-17 all. Some pump only dodge and evade, that works but against other missile characters bone necros, your twins etc you’re a sitting duck one vs. one. For someone who went 12 in each just keep that in mind.
Critical strike- depends on gear setup
If you’re low on deadly strike pump it, if not only a few will do the trick. Remember deadly strike does stack.
Penetrate-(I put one but two works)
Strafe- as high as you want it on me its max’d as I use my toon to mf as well, plus its good in a particular dueling situation which I will get into below. I also extremely dislike multi in pvp, again personal preference. Only real reason for multi over strafe is your not standing still with multi with strafe your cemented in place till its over. Strafe packs a bigger punch. Both do well in pvp I’ve tried both I prefer strafe as I said before.
Valkeryie- 1
An extra set of hands never hurts.
Prereq’s there are four inner sight, slow missile, decoy, and cold arrow.
If you forgo valkeryie you’ll save yourself 4 pts (3 prereq’s and the valk point). Can spend those points in multi if ya wish or beefing up CS/pent/dodge/evade.
Piercing-1
This allows your arrows to go thorough targets; this is especially handy against druids.
Gear:
I will list the 3, make it or break it items a zon must have, if you don’t have these, then don’t bother making this zon.
Armor=Fort
Weapon=Faith-you can opt to use an ebotd/wf if you prefer, but I’d always take a faith my preference.
Ring=Raven frost’s Highest Dex and ar possible.
Those are the cornerstone of ANY Bow zon build. Also keep in mind, if you use a Matriachal Faith Bow, your ias will be higher then if you used a Grand Matron, but the damage from a Matron in itself is a reason to get rid of the Matriachal Bow imo.
Helm:
Cheap- Sig/peasant crown, biggin bonnet
Med- 45% IAS helm, Mav, Gaze, Shako
Best- 120/45 (ED/IAS) (this is another make it or break it item, however its not truly need to be good in pvp, but it will make you alot better.) I have a 105/45 one that I made. I can't tell you how much more effective I was once i equip'd it.
Could also use Andys for life/ias if you don’t mind the negative fire resist
Night wings also good choice dex/cold absorb 2 to skills. Id say choose shako/gaze over either of those if you had the option
Amulet Boots
Depending on your amulet choice, you have a pair of boots that naturally accompanies it.
The two preferred setups are Cats eye + Gores, OR High lords + War travs/Waterwalks.
The travs yield some damage, as does the water walk’s via dex and some life. I believe the Cb/OW/DS from gores are a much better pair then the other. Again it’s the player preference go with what you feel comfortable.
Belt
Cheap-magic/rare with IAS
Mid- gold wrap
Best verdungos/Nost coil
Gloves
Cheap Magic/Rare IAS
Med Laying of Hands
Expensive Dracs/rare pair
Best- Crafted/Rare with 20% IAS, KB resists/life is a plus

Charms, here is where this bowazon packs her punch sorta speak. You’ll need at least 20 poison small charms to be relatively effective in pvp. Why poison small charms are so good is because like most things in pvp, they are NOT effected by the 1/6 damage clause.
So in essence if a person has 20 100dmg poison small charms that’s a pure 2k damage.
However having just 100dmg poison small charms wont cut it either. You’ll need better damaging ones then that at least 6-7. As well as faster run walk small charms. Those are extremely important more so then life/ar small charms in my opinion. Because bowazons can’t block, can’t tele and they do not have high defense. So your only hope is to be able to out run people/teles. I got lucky and found some poison sc’s with frw on them. Now if you went the catseye/gore route you have 60% frw right there so you would only need around 13 depending on your frw %. Personally my Ideal frw is 140, but I settled for 125% simply because anymore then that I’d be sacrificing inventory I could of used for more poison sc’s. I will list poison small charm prices on my server at least, to give people an idea of their worth. Also contradictory to popular belief, for the most part just 313-451 poison small charms are highly duped. The rest you can pretty much safely buy.
My charm setup
6X451’s sc (I recommend not going for these as they are highly duped)
4X 313’s sc (frw mods on 3)
3X 100’s sc
2X 175 dmg/34 life LC’s (couldn’t resist the life bonus)
Total damage- 4.5k poison
10Xfrw/life/ar charms ( I don’t have any triplets but have frw/lifers)
Now prices on poison small charms for US east...
100dmg-hr
200dmg-2hr
300dmg-3-5hr
451’s- VERY expensive can be as high as 8 hrs, spend the 3hr its safer n cheaper. I got lucky and my friends found mine and sold them to me.
Duel Info-
Now I don’t duel in a lot of pub games, or private games. I have a tight group of friends who fight each other either for hrs or just for fun. Sorta like a king of the mountain type deal. I dislike pun games because people call things BM that really aren’t. Then some don’t call things that are BM. People are naturally hypocritical, though it’s a character flaw. I’ll list just a few things of what most people call BM as well as what my pvp group call BM.
Normal BM
Stacked resists-stacking resists is putting up a lot of resists more then the max’d because your character can have 300 resist all, but only show 75 resist all. The point of stacking resists is to counter act facets – resists, as well as the dreaded conviction aura. I personally believe this is pure red white and blue, BS. I’ll go into this a bit later.
Slow Missiles- Oh I hate this, however it’s a skill, to call BM on this is just purely stupid. If someone is going to get close enough to cast it, I wish them luck.
Iron Maiden- This is a relative new one I’ve heard, all from meleer’s upset because they can’t attack a necro. Personally it’s a necro spell, its fare game for them to use it. To outlaw a particular attack from one class is just ridiculous, it basically nerf’s the necro. If you call that BM then in the same breath smite should be to.
Da Pack
Remember when I talked about stacked resists, well we’re back. The group we all have the same stance on this. It is okay to stack resists vs conv aura types. Foher/auradins, to call foul on someone stacking resists to counter act a major negative that wouldn’t have otherwise’d been nessacary if it wasn’t for the aura is just stupid. IF anything the conv aura in itself is BM, the stacked resists is just the answer to that. Without the aura both of those classes would be dead in pvp. Also for a person to stack resists they’d have to sacrifice stats they would otherwise need for other classes. IF they wish to gimp there character vs. other class’s to survive a foher then so be it. Basically the entire Foher/auradin builds are complete BM’s in pvp, besides the aura, foher doesn’t even have to aim to hit someone. While hard working sorcs, have to aim to kill. Auradins don’t even fight they just charge around like chickens with their heads cut off. They’re much worse and incredibly cheap. The only conv aura we accept is on a merc, at least once we kill it its gone, and less they pay 50k for a new one.
Potting- Some people say its okay to mana pot others say it isn’t. We believe its not, If you have to mana pot to continue fighting because you tele to much or cast needlessly then your not really a better pvp’r your just a potter, that can fight. We do accept mana potting to tele in town but that’s it. Most people would be, very screwed if they went by that law, because one they couldn’t be able to tele a lot without depleting their mana very fast.
Now that my rant is over lets continue… to the dueling tactics just keep in mind these will be with how I play in my group, may need some tweaking in pub games.
Assassins- If their traps are set just find your distance and guide them, they are probably your easiest kill. If their a trapper who teles, again their an easy kill. WW’s oh boy these are fun, somewhat like a tele ww barb. Just run n guide. If they start to follow you in a straight line, turn n strafe them. One strafe should kill them. WW sin/Barb just takes practice and patience. They are probably your hardest kills without a doubt especially the barb.
Zons- Very fun duels to duel other bow zons, it comes down purely to which one has the better gear/sc set up. With javazons, just make them chase you they should be fairly easy kills. Hybrids are just a joke I wouldn’t even worry about them, if you can take a normal bow zon, you can serve up a hybrid’s butt on a silver platter.
Sorcs- We are sorceress’s worst nightmare, our range and guided arrows totally mess them up. Even land one arrow if they’re not dead in one shot your poison will get them to a point of fleeing to town. Only one that could give you a little trouble is an orber because of your horrible resists, with its spray. Also a good 200 fcr fireballer may hinder your efforts as well. Takes practice with them its basically comes down to who hits first.
Druids- Summons oh boy the one thing to totally screw up your guided arrow. Oh wait strafe! One strafes their pets, sage all dead. Before they can recast guide them.
Wind druids- ruh roh the tele’n hurricane and nado. Also with bear n sage right with them. Your main goal here is not to die, I know a duh, but attack them, picking off the sage as soon as possible, that will dramatically lower their life. Then strafe the bear if you’re lucky might kill the druid too, if not follow after and guide them. Most wind druids are wimps and will tele away to recast sage if it drops. Wolfy/Bear well, I’ve never seen many in pvp but ones I have seen. Especially in bear can be hassle Sage+Bo+Bear= Massive life and big pain in the butt for us. I recently saw a wolfy; completely mess up a pub game I was in tagging with a friend in. After watching that, id have to say, they could be a problem, couple guides should do the trick keep in mind with a full fury ball wolf druid, can outrun you. I kept drawing out with the wolf, (drawing out is where both people die at the same/near time.)
Pally’s- Hdin’s they are just a joke, one guided and wach them flee. If they insist on tele-ham’n if you know the trick use it, they’ll die if not. Heres the trick, the hammer comes out of the shield and goes to the left, so if you can stand just a bit behind their shield or on an angle, their hammers wont hit you. That takes practice before you get good at it, I’ve gotten where 7/10 times I can do it. Also if they stand there casting a hammer field after 3 guides they’re dead. I would still suggest staying away from there hammers and firing though.
Zealers- fun fun just move out in the open area preferably infront of those rock things in blood Moore, so they can’t do a straight charge. Strafe, if their a good zealer they will circle you tightly so strafe misses. If that is the case throw in a guide then strafe alternate between them, judging how close they are and how fast, I would say after one strafe,1-2 guided, and another strafe. Its time to move, if they tele, then they are simply a weak version of a ww barb. In which case patience and practice is all I can say.
Foh/Auradins/smiters- the triple BM class’s, I don’t even attempt them nor, would I suggest to. Only one you have a good chance at beating is a smite, which if they are a telesmiter (incredibly BM imo) then your simply screwed. Foher you could try but with your bad resists one foh down you go. Auradins, just sit in town till they leave, the only reason why anyone would make an auradin is to Nk someone. That’s also the only things I’ve saw them do. Kill, and then stand at the town gate Nk’n and gold looting. Sigh if people need gold why can’t they just make a gold find barb like the rest of us.
Necros- Bone necros- ALL of them are incredibly easy, your arrows out range their spirits and out speed their spirits. Just run around the spirits, and guide them, make them be the runner to out run your arrows. If they run they can’t cast. If they tele, then you have a harder time, if you got your valk then slow missile them. Then they're a slow sitting duck.
Poison necro- don’t see these to often, keep your distance and some antidotes in your potion belt, if they cast cure it asap.
Barbs- WW- we covered see ww sin above.
Furbarbie- Bear/wolf barbs- they are like the druids except more life/more defense and more of a pain.
With like alot of things in pvp, its mostly about player match ups. Every character has one that can simply annihilate them. Pvp comes down to two things, Equipment and pure dumb luck. I would suggest before dueling barbs/pallies, to work on sorcs/necros/zons/druids to get familiar and a bit more skilled. Even a good skilled pvp zon, can lose to a complete noob tele-ww barb. This zon is the most useful in a group duel situation, because as we might not one hit kill, our poisoned arrows can certainly tip the duel into our group's favor. Any comments, questions, additions would be certainly welcomed :)
