Since this is pretty closely related to item evaluation/ price checking, I almost dropped it as a comment in that very thread. But since I'm not actually price checking a specific item, and that thread is morbidly obese, I made a dedicated thread.

I'd like to start off by saying to Warlock that I am aware of the forum rules, and that we're not supposed to talk in detail about items that are duped, bugged, glitched, etc. And that discussing the trade values of such items would technically be a pretty serious no-no. But hear me out for a second.

I've got some questions about sockets from Larzuk in classic. Some of this has been covered in other places, most of us are aware of the act5 exploit and all the trouble its caused-- Completely invalidating the ladder ranking and ruining it for legit level climbers, providing sockets outside the Soj cube recipe, socketed uniques, etc...

Most of the complaining I've heard here and in-game has been about baaling, but since I've never been into leveling just for the sake of leveling, this doesnt really rock my boat directly.

So what I'm curious about, and the reason I made this thread, is to discuss how big of an impact the free sockets and wonky items has had on certain item values and the economy in general.

Sojs, at least on west, were seeming to regain some of their value for a while there--post dupe fix and pre-act5 nonsense. Trading for nice rares seemed a little more safe for a while too, as alot of the major dupes were commonly known, and thinning daily with every poof...

Things, from the bits I've heard, seem to be pretty screwed up now. What I'm wanting to know is: Exactly how much damage has been done, and in what way is that damage concentrated, item-wise.

How has free sockets affected the value of the soj?

How has free sockets affected the value of 'Already Socketed' rares Vs. 'Unsocketed/Clean' rares?

What about these magic [blue] +2 din shields? What are most of em..grims with high def, block and +2 din socketed with 2 x Perfect diamonds? How many of these are there around? If theres a ton, what is the market value on them [this is where it could get sticky, forum rules wise], and how does it affect the market value of legit din shields...?

How prevalent are the socketed uniques? Specifically the ones that get alot of general use. Like the unique armors used alot on public PvP games [twitch, rcage, bbats, hawkmail etc..], or tarns and gskins for goldfinders, and so on...
Are they widespread enough to be a nuisance if you needed one of these items, but didn't want a socketed one? Like if I make a game looking for a p tarn and 7 ppl show up...how many of those are going to bring in a tarn socketed with a topaz, rather than a clean 50% tarn?

White socketed armors? Are there alot of these floating around? Are they actually desired enough by anyone to have an economic impact? Have they had any impact on the under clvl 29 duelers?

Anyway you get the idea....I pretty much keep to myself [small circle anyway], so I've got a limited view of the field and want to know how bad the economy has been affected...

Asking for trade values on these glitched items might be pushing it, I dont know.

But If someone said something like,
"Oh those magic +2 din double socketed din shields are all over. People are picking them up for [insert value here], so the value of legit rares has [insert effect here] because of it.."
or:
"Perfect tarns with a p topaz in them are less than common. I saw some guy pay [insert value here] for one. The price will make them easy to avoid.."

You see? This information provides insight into what the introduction of these new items into the market had on different areas of the economy. And its even more insightful because this is a barter based economy. The value of any particular item is decided by cross-referencing the relative values of numerous other related items. Then fitting that into the whole scheme of whats available out there to deliver what you're after.

Well anyway, maybe I'm just being overly careful, and Warlock won't see any problem at all here. Better safe than sorry, eh?

So, theres my rambling inquiry.

Thanks for reading,

~cody

Let's not go anywhere near the prices, shall we ?
I believe Dacar specified these rules quite clearly, discuss the morality of the use of such things, but don't discuss it's worth.
Putting a price on a painting will make people want to steal it.

It's there, lets hope Blizz finds a way to block it. It hurts the economy and the dueling.

If somebody drives a truck over your computer, you don't really need to know, in detail, how fast this truck was going and how much noise your computer made ?

When you are unsure of things, you PM one of the mods. You get a infraction for posting this without running it by one or more mods. This infraction vanishes by itself, without a trace in one month. Untl then, the forcast predicts thin ice.

I'll close up this topic for now, if anybody feels they have very valuable information to add concerning, PM me and I'll add it or open the thread to allow you to add it.
