View Full Version : Starting out the Sorc, got some Qs

I was planning to do this Blizzballer thing for my Sorc:

20 Blizzard
20 Ice Blast / Glacial Spike
7 Cold Mastery
20 Fireball
20 Meteor
1+ Fire Mastery

and all the utility skills, like Teleport, Static, and the ilk.

Is that a viable skill plan?

Secondly, my planned gear selection:

Shako
Tal Ammy (eventually a good rare/craft one)
Chains of Honor / Enigma ?
Oculus
up'd Viscertuant
Gloom's Trap (eventually Arachnid Mesh)
2x FCR rings
Magefist
rare boots I have, 10%fhr, +2dex, cr27,lr6,pr14,24%mf

My questions here are:

Chains of Honor or Enigma?
Should I do partial Tal set with Armor, Belt, Ammy, and the rest of it how it is currently planned?
Or should I do whole Tal set?

Please note that I will be MFing, so let that factor into your decision. However, I would rather not have too much MF, as I would much much rather be doing more deathless runs than dying on many of them.

I will also be max block. Or should I go max vita? I read about how max block might be more beneficial for MFers, but I'd like some opinions.

I haven't played a Sorc since 1.09 (a Nova sorc :hide: ) so I'm not very up to date on things.

And, as a last note, can a dtorch get me an storch?

I've been asking myself the same questions as I've been building a Blizzballer.

The skill point distribution looks good, it's preference if you want meteor or not. I've come to the conclusion on equipment that it's mostly preference if you want Tal Rasha's, Enigma, Chains of Honor, as long as your hitting the break points you want to hit.

Vitality or block is preference as well, I prefer blocking, but it's probably more reasonable to go with vitality when you're unsure of your equipment.

Full Tal Rasha's set, in terms of damage/survivability/mf, is, in my opinion, the most balanced
'reasonable' setup you can run for a dual element sorceress.

Don't be fooled by +skills; -resistance trumps in terms of damage. If you're SC (or HC and not
planning on teleporting much) I'd go with a Spirit shield and max vita. Can't reach 105% fcr
without it. Alternatively, go with Spirit and 50% blocking. I don't know. I haven't played SC since
1.08 or something.

If you KNOW your endgame +skills setup, I suggest using a skill calculator to figure out what
your ideal synergy-to-mastery ratio is for your fire tree. IIRC it's something like synergy should
be 10-11 more than mastery (base). Meh, look it up -- PhatTrumpet has something somewhere
that very well addresses this.
