Mephi MF sorc question

I read the guide about making a sorc specialized in killing hell mephi but could anyone explain why you have to not have done the mephi quest? What advantage is there by doing this?

If you create a game with a character that has done Mephisto then bring your mf sorc in who hasn't done the quest and kill him, Mephisto will drop better items ('Quest Drop') as if you have done him for the first time...i have a lvl 83 sorc parked at Hell Meph for just such purposes...she has gained those lvls just running him!

D2 has for some time had a glitch re: quest drops on high level, act ending monsters.

it's why one see's people abandoning CS runs when some noob premakes, and makes a quest game. very high level Lords simply do not want to get barroned.

Similarly, a mephy glitcher gets the quest drops every time as well, the bonus is, that one isn't fighting with others over those drops, and/or battling folks with 3rd party item grab hacks.

my glitcher is 85 1/3 or so... If I were interested in leveling her, vs. just MFing I'd also be doing the council more frequently, they give pretty good experience even at this level in full games. in fact, one of my competitors went from lvl 77 to lvl 84 or so in very short order.

I'm high enough level, I prefer to just get the drops, and move onto the next game.
