View Full Version : Viable variant?

I built a Charged Boltress a long time ago but i use her all the time as she has survived longer than any Meteorb i have built (I play only HC) and found her to be a lot of fun...i recently added an Infinity to her merc and her kill speed shot up! I use full Tals set (but thinking of moving that onto a Meteorb as MF isn't really viable with her but the set bonuses are useful...) but have access to HoTO etc...
So, i have maxed:-

Charged Bolt (duh)
Lightning (only synergy)
Light Mastery

and in the Cold skills
20 in Orb with +skills
-85% Cold Pierce jobbie with + skills on Cold Mastery
Chill Armour 1 point as it's damn worth it despite what anyone says!

Now, at lvl 82 i worked out i can sink the rest of the allocated points in the game into max Chain Lightning, making me a slightly weaker CL sorc with wrong synergies but a back-up for immunities...i tried crunching some numbers on the skill calc but i couldn't figure out the 'Items' Tab next to the 'Skill' tab so couldn't see what the potential is...

I guess what i am asking is is it worth it or should i leave her as a fun char and can someone give me an idea what the damage will be (with Tals set +6 skills +1 from BC) if i maxed CL and started to use it? Please don't reply with "Remake pure Light/Cold"!!

Thx for any help in advance guys!

With maxed Lighting, CBolt and Mastery your CL(maxed aswell) damage will be 8-3366. That with +7 skills(including BC) and assuming your Tals Orb have +1 LM only.

Wow..thats...err...lame i suppose! Even with Infinity on merc that's not really gonna cut it in big games...maybe by myself...i don't know really! I read the CL/FO sorc guide for inspiration and it's saying if i hit so many monsters on the screen with the average damage (my damage seems close to the max for CL just with a weaker FO) i'll be doing ok...well...Charged Bolt does me fine at the moment so i'll just go for it and max Chain Lightning and see what happens as the cold spells are ok as far as backup goes...i'll experiment and see how it goes...Big Thanx to you Noite Escura for punching the numbers for me!

Are you suggesting i pump the Frozen Orb and Mastery as opposed to CL then Rawness? When you say it isn't useful do you mean as a skill in general or at the damage level i will end up at?

I think CL get more power at higher levels. I don't have a CL/FO sorc fully developed yet(mine is lvl 42), but I have a lvl 70 pure Lightning sorc with sub par(no Infinnity and few +skills, 80 FCR) equipment and she's a slow killer, even in Act 1 Hell.

Thanks again for the help and insight dude, at the mo, i am saving the skillz as i don't really need em and if you can report back/PM me on your sorc's progress i'lll think about where i'm gonna stick em...if CL really is as useless as Rawness claimed then i'll max FO and stick the remainder in Cold Mastery...

I wouldn't put any more points into Cold Mastery if you have a mercenary using Infinity. You're not breaking many cold immunes, and -165 resist really is enough -res for the vast majority of your encounters.

One thing to consider doing with your extra skill points is increasing static field. A fullscreen radius (or a relatively large one at ~12) is quite a site to behold. Admittedly, I've been playing in classic recently where you can sliver enemies with static -- but even in hell lod, it's still the one of the fastest mass 'drop-to-50%' health skills in your arsenal.

I personally don't find Chain that useful unless in the pits with a very huge mob.

The damage isn't high enough to make an impact in 8p dia runs and I find lightning much more useful for cutting down pit lords and such. And my chain is 15k damage, so take that into consideration also :P
