View Full Version : Rolling Rare (yellow) Jewels
Is this a common thing people do?
If I keep rolling rares with the 6x skull formula, will the quality keep getting lower and lower with my lvl96 char?
I dont have access to duped SoJ's for the other formula.
Any info would be GG.
The quality will keep getting lower, but it'll eventually stop dropping at a certain point (usually around the 4th re-roll). If you're going to always re-roll with the level 96 char, then the ilvl of jewel will eventually even out to 64 or 63 (depending on the old ilvl).
For example:
After reroll, ilvl = (clvl*0.4)+(ilvl*0.4)
clvl 96 char
ilvl 85 jewel (something you might find in an area like the pits)
First re-roll = ilvl 72 jewel ( (96*0.4) + (85*0.4) )
Second re-roll = ilvl 67 jewel ( (96*0.4) + (72*0.4) )
Third re-roll = ilvl 65 jewel ( (96*0.4) + (67*0.4) )
Fourth re-roll = ilvl 64 jewel ( (96*0.4) + (65*0.4) )
Each roll there-after will still be an ilvl 64 jewel, as long as you keep using that same clvl char.
There might be some better alternatives to re-rolling rare jewels, such as re-rolling rare diadems, or rare druid helms or necro shields, but it is certainly possible to get some pretty useful jewels from the process. As always, luck is a key factor.

You can actually reroll any rare item - except those which use up more than 6 spaces, as they won't fit into it together with the skulls.
IMO rerolling like that is a waste of pskulls, at least in D2X, except you need items with a certain item level. Another option is the Charsi imbue quest, but you can only apply it to nonmagical items without sockets and only once. On the other hand, ethereal items stay ethereal with Charsi while I'm not sure about that with the cube recipe.

Unfortunately, re-rolling an ethereal item using the 6 pskull recipe will result in the ethereal property being lost, so there's not much you can do about ethereal rares except imbue an ethereal item. Crafting an ethereal item will also result in the ethereal property being lost.
You can probably get better returns rolling two grand charms then a rare jewel.

However, many low level duelers keep rerolling rare jewels. But if you wants to do it then be prepared to make sure to get the ilvl right. And be prepared to use up a LOT of skulls before getting anything worthwile.
The "grail" would probably be a rare jewel with +8-16 Damage and required level 9. It's value would rival it of Perfect skillers. (And probably be just as rare)
How do you determine the ilvl even b4 you start rolling it?
Where do you find out ilvl?

what other use do you need to save pskulls for anyway?

Since finding jewels is limited, then the only real way to get one is to find it off a monster or chest. If it's off a monster, then it's ilvl is equal to the mlvl of the monster that dropped it. If it's off a chest then the ilvl is equal to the area level that the chest was located in.

PSkulls can be used in the 3 pgem reroll recipe, just like PRubies, PSapphires, etc.

It's 8-14. Scarlet & Carbuncle prefixes, Joyfulness & Wrath suffixes.

Why use pskulls in rolling magic items when you can use them in rares.
If you have plenty, go ahead and roll that rare diadem/ring/jewel whatever.
It's not like rolling godly GCs is any more certain
