"Level Rushing"

I am trying to "speed" level a new character to around level 30 so I can use some gear I have saved for it. Yesterday I used my lvl 90 summoner to rush the new character to act 5 normal. Along the way the new character gained only 59 exp, which included parking the new character in Chaos sanctuary while my lvl 90 summoner killed everything including diablo.
So, is this just a horrible strategy that is not going to be able to overwhelm the player difference/monster difference EXP penalties? Or am I doing something incorrectly here?
Any advice would be appreciated. If I have to do it the old fashioned way thats fine too, I just thought I would try this to cure the low level boredom that seems to beset me when I start a new character.

Your options:

1. Use a character nearer in level (I personally like 15 levels max)

2. Level the youngster as per that (http://strategy.diabloii.net/news.php?id=551#Area%20Levels)

3. Find a sorceress to enchant them

well are u planing on stopping at 30...if you plan on going up as high as you can you might want to think of uber leveling...u can go from 1 to 75 in about an hour.

when i level a character in normal i will solo quest up to cain then i typically solo the following areas in full to mostly full games:
trist to 15
15-20 canyon of the magi (tombs suck b/c the amount of cloging and unleechable undeads)

at that point i do enchant cow games wherein i'll open a cow portal, enchant my character and have it use ravenclaw long bow. i do this in a 2 person game (the low character and the enchanter) this works better than typical public cow games as my low character gets all the xp from the cows instead of sharing it. it usually takes only 2 games to go from 20-24. at 24 do ancients then you're in the perfect position to leech baal games 25-30. at 30 i usually put on "good" gear and can go back to soloing baal's minions in full games. at 40 i can then be rushed all the way through to hell and the chaos sance. this saves the trouble of finding a person to "glitch" norm baal quest and nm baal quest. i can also glitch friends and/or mules past these two points with out resorting to pubs that dont know what the hell's going on.

grushing is okay too i do it both ways depending on my mood, the character i'm rushing, and if i need (or my friends need) to grush.

edit: i also enjoy the occasional walk the game method. it's the only way to really "learn" to use a character.

I did not know that at all! Hmm...I am either going to have to get better at playing the game on 2 computers with 2 mice, or just resolve to going about this via a simpler method eg. lvling the character by playing the game :)

or getting into public chaos games, which usually suck.... or getting a friend to do it...or finding an uber leveling game. then you just have to stand around (DONT GO AFK!!1one!).

1. Kill everything in the bloodmoor, den, cold plains, burial grounds.
2. "Trist runs" games until lvl 15ish.
3. "Act 2 games" with a few people in it. Kill a few mobs in act 2 until i hit 20.
4. "Cow games" until lvl 24.
5. Ancients to bang lvl 25.
6. Norm Baal runs from lvl 25 to 40-45ish. (exp sucks raw before 25 and after 45-48)
7. NM Baal runs to lvl 70ish. (exp sucks after 72ish)
8. Hell Baal runs then on out.

I don't tend to chaos since i don't like iron maiden too much.

WATCH OUT for the "baalquest4rush" scam, they just want the super drop and run. Leaving you sitting in act 1 cursing up a storm.

while i won't disagree with your method of leveling (i'll have to do that for a change) but i've helped a lot of my friends glitch...

if you want to avoid the scammers out there (not all of us are scamming) just be sure to catch the rushers character, or acount name

i've lost a few people (quite unintentionally) during those runs so i've started writing down the 40+ char name

the most intersting rush was when i logged in one time and there was 7 (or more) people who were in a game for a hell rush... jez.. i never realized my hdin could survive a full hell rush with 100% leachers... kinda cool knowing that at least...

it doesnt mean they want the drop. they are more likely glitch rushing another level 1 or something

i just did a grush on myself (2nd comp) danke, and a lvl 42 sin that knew what was going on. i asked nicely after getting the norm baal quest if she'd want to get nm one too and then get a hell rush. she agreed and i have a not as of yet permed (going to expire in 10 days) char in hell shortly thereafter.

i even went back and gave nm and hell wps. not everyone's scum on bnet.

If I'm not being grushed and chaosed I usualy level like this.
1-2) Run to cold plains, kill zombies and quil rats along the path
3-6) Clear cold plains of Fallen Shaman, Chicks-with-tridents, Bubas
7) Clear Den
8-9) Find WP, stones and passage in stony field
10-14/15) Kill treehead mob and clear trist in trist games
16-24) Play game normally, see how far I get
25-40) Ancients and baal
