I'm building a smiter, mainly to kill ubers with. The following is gear I currently have (I need advice on what's better):
************************************************** ********
HELM: 7/8/20% Vamp or Shako?

ARMOR: AP FORTITUDE or 48 Str/25% DR Leviathan (Or should I make COH?)

AMMY: (Nothing good) Telling of beads or Sacaram or rising sun

BOOTS: 190% Gores

GLOVES: (No good ones yet) Bloodfist or Lavagouts or Laying of Hands

WEAPON: LASTWISH PB 68% CB or GRIEF PB (Avg mods)

SHIELD: (Nothing good yet) SPIRIT Kurast (25% res) or SPIRIT sacred roundach (48% ED)

RING1: 187/20 Ravenfrost

RING2: (Nothing good) 165/20 Ravenfrost or Dwarfstar or 8% LL Carrion

BELT: 33/13 Dungo or 14% string or tgods

CHARMS: +9 DMG GC, +3 DMG/+2 Dex SC, a few other +3 DMG SC's

***Does puting a FORT on a smiter even make sense? Doesn't the 300% ED not work for smite? It's been a while since I played last, so forgive the "noobish" questions

I see a serious lack of resist here. CoH would probably be a good choice given that. You probably want a lot of resist charms too. In your case, I would recommend last wish for resist, lifetap, and CB. I would only recommend grief if those things are properly covered else where in your gear.

HoZ is a good shield. You should get one.

LOL, I'm working on that....found the elite version of it a few minutes ago (Dragonscale...ugh! )

I'd get some resists from SPIRIT for now, and I could always UM the helm, but yea, I wouldn't go after ubers with less that perfect resists.

If you're making a character purely for uber trist then you might as well make conviction your main aura, it'll override mephs at high enough levels (level 18+ i believe) and make things a lot easier there.

** ONLY PICKING OUT THE BEST ITEMS YOU'VE POSTED**

Helm: Shako
Ammy: Sacaren
Boots: Gore
Gloves: Bloodfist
Weapon: Grief PB (though I've heard LW > Grief in PvM; I've never used LW, so I can't vouch for it)
Shield: Spirit Kurast (Kurast > Sacred Rondahce in terms of Smite.. I think)
Ring 1: Ravenfrost
Ring 2: Dwarf Star (Life from it = BOable)
Belt: Dungo

I have tried all smiter ocmbinations so I know what I mean, and this is my conclusion.

Helm: In your case, Shako, for the life and mana. The DR on Vamp is good, but the leech is useless. I always used a Crown of Ages with an Um/Um combo.

Armor: Chain of Honors! The resist, skills, and damage to demons make it choice!

Amulet: Highlord's. Faster swing, and light resist.

Shield: Okay, I always used a resist Exile for the defense (my defense was HUGE, I used metalgrid as ammy and maxed the defensive stuff, it was over 20 k.) That was overkill though. When I started, I used horrifying gear. A hoz works just fine. Up it if you can though.

Weapon: Grief is great, big damage, blah blah. I hate grief. The damage difference is an issue, but for ubering damage like that will only save you a few precious seconds, and with life tap you will have lived through them anyways. Last Wish IS the best choice, and highlord's makes up for it's lack of IAS. Last Wish is also the most expensive runeword, but it is the best. It takes care of your life tap, and when you get hit it casts fade, which aside from bigger resist also has a hidden DR bonus. The huge crushing blow free's up space too. 60-70 was always good enough for me, I never used any other CB item.

Belt: T-gods. Up'd light resist and big vitality and strength bonus. Meph does lightning, you > lightning!

Gloves: Why no one uses these I'll never know... LAYING OF HANDS! Fast speed, big fire resist, and 350% damage to demons! That is like adding a level 30 might aura on top of everything your doing while fighting the uber three.

Boots: I use waterwalks, simply for the life, dex and fire resist.

Rings: Raven frost if you don't use Exile with a Bul Kathos'. Dual Kathos with Exile if you can afford it.

I think thats it. Here is my godly setup that never died if your curious:

Crown of Ages - Um/Um
Chain of Honors (Sacred Armor) Perfect sacred armor
Last Wish Phase Blade (The required dex makes blocking perfect always)
Exile Eth. Vortex Shield w/ 26 resist all
Metalgrid Amulet
Laying of Hands
Thundergod's
Waterwalks
Bul Kathos' x2

That's it. The only thing was my attack was around one frame slower than someone using highlord's. But it never mattered. I would use Highlords while killing meph since he messed up my awesome defense, but after he went down I switch to metalgrid and no one could touch me.

For a good zealer, use the same setup, but switch Crown of Ages for Vamp Gaze w/ Um and the Chains for a Fortitude. Godly.

Zealer can smite through uber trist. With 1 point in smite.

Read kindryland's awesome 1 pt smiter guide: http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=425449

Get a sanctuary shield, if you can find a good 3soc paly shield with 30+resist. I just made one with 97 all resist = )

Get that and dracs and try to save as many crappy charms as you can (just have like 4 slots in your inventory, rest charms) and you should be good to go.
