Is the -8% life from Sacrifice based on the same scale/system as life leach? So if I had 8% lifesteal it would negate it and if I had 20% I'd actually have 12% etc.?
8% in normal, 16% in nightmare and 32% in hell.
This is because like you said, you need 8% leech to offset sacrifice, but in nightmare and hell the LL effectiveness is reduced by 1/2 and 3/4 respectively.
So with 32% LL in hell, you will be leeching back 8% which is enough to offset the 8% damage you take.

Dur, I forgot about the penalties from NM/Hell  but cool thanks that's what I needed

The Leech Penalty for Hell is 1/3rd, not 1/4th, so you'd only need 24% Life Leech in Hell to offset Sacrifice.
Worth noting, however, is that some monsters have built-in "Leech Resistances", which can halve the effectiveness of Leech (forcing you to get 48% to offset Sacrifice), or even negate Leech entirely. In addition, if you have any %DR, that'll reduce the amount of leech you need to offset Sacrifice. Finally, Lifetap's leech is not penalized by either difficulty OR leech resistance, and will always leech 50% of the damage that you deal, which will in turn always be more than enough to offset Sacrifice.
Just remember that you have to have enough life to survive the initial hit, first. If you have 1,000 life and you deal 15,000 damage (say you use Sacrifice with Fanaticism on and score a critical hit against an Amp'd monster), then you're going to be dead no matter HOW much leech you have (8% of 15,000 = 1200 life = dead paladin).

Ah, thanks SsoG, more good information, I was planning on using Exile (which obviously grants a good %chance for lifetap)
