well i would like to make another pally but i really dont know which route to take... and since i am getting back into d2 i sort of forget the combinations..

i would like this char to be able to solo the hellfire torch bosses (lol or whatever it is called these days(i left before 1.11))

for this char i actually want to hit the enemy with a weapon and not just use magic.. for some more fun

like after watching this video, a build like this seems pretty powerful
http://youtube.com/watch?v=1ffIUdSiuic&mode=user&search=

or if anyone can suggest anything else im all ears :D

thanks a ton

That char is a smiter with a zeal as a back up skill or a zealot with smite as a backup skill. First one is maybe slightly better for uber trist, but doesn't really shine againts regular mobs.

I suggest you to take the zealot path, its far more versatile character.

Read kingdryland's 1pt smiter guide, it got all the info you need:

I agree. Actually a Smite Zealot might be a fun idea if you're just starting back up. When I started back up I used a smiter. He's built really poorly but he still does Uber-Tristram ("the hellfire torch bosses") quite well. But he would be a great option for someone who is sick of casters and wants a character that can handle some rough and tough monsters.

I recommend you to read the 1 point Smite guide. It's very good.

why cant i edit my post??

im incredibly sorry for the double post but it wont let me edit my post...

i was reading that thing and it says the following for items:

Weapon: Grief phase blade. The absolute king of melee. Sick damage both for zeal and smite. Stats are irrelevant, all grief phase blades hit max speed and even the lowest roll will be devastating.

Guillaume’s face helm,
gore rider boots,
dracul’s grasp gloves.

Armor: Fortitude. Damage, defense, life, resists. All the wanted mods in one item.
Belt could be t-gods/credendum/ik etc.
Shield. Sanctuary , a good roll here, 100+ all res, in a nice elite paladin shield.
Amulet. Metalgrid (or rare with resists,or mara’s)
Ravenfrost+ a rare with resists/leech etc.

for shield why wouldnt u want to use exile??

also after reading all of that i am so damn confused.. lol so am i wrong in this statement:

"Skill distribution (identical to a pure Fanatic Zealot, that’s what you really are).
Max Zeal (main skill, used vs all monsters in the game besides bosses and for crowd control in tristram)
Max Sacrifice (Zeal damage synergy)
Max Fanaticism (main aura, provides ias, attack rating bonus and great damage)
Max Holy Shield (great defense, block and smite damage boost).
1pt in prerequisites. Remaining skill points can go to either defiance for defense bonus or blessed aim. 1pt in salvation is a good idea as well."

this build plus the items above are good for uber tristram solo, and just regular pvm??

You can't edit your post after an hour.

Exile is a nice shield most of the, but for fighting the ubers you might need the resists. You do quite a bit of damage with crushing blow, so you don't lose much.

Zealots are sick for pvm... you just mow down everything in your way  And with lifeleach/ lifetap you will be indestructable. It's only for tough fights where you need to break out smite.

so what i posted above is good for uber trist and overall pvm ?

also for cta?? do ur other items add to the bo capability of cta?? so lets say all ur items combined add an extra +10 skills.. does that mean ur bo will be at 16 assuming it is perfect??

if so what is a good second shield?

You need a source of lifetap when you go to the uber trist. So exile or draculs or last wish. Without lifetap you will most likely die.

Yes, + skills from other gear will boost your bo lvl. Yes, the bo lvl will be 16 in ur example. Spirit in a low req paladin shield. It gives you +2 skills = boosts your bo lvl by 2.

besides those gloves is there any other way i can get life tap??

also in that write up he says death is the best weapon to use, but then he says his favorite is a grief phase blade??

which is better and how much do either of them go for??

Grief > Death

"Three" essentials for Ubers:

Guillaume's Face
Dracul's Grasp (can substitute for a life tap wand)
Gore Riders

edit: if you're coming back to the game, and do not have any items whatsoever, I strongly urge you to make a char that can MF. Since getting currency is a chore, make it easier by having a char that can do it :)

which brings me to yet another point lol :S

for mf chars when i used to play i had a sorc to mf, but i have heard u only need 300 mf and anything over that is basically overkill (i had almost max mf when i used to play like 900 or something)

anyways i always found that sorcs really arent that powerful in the sense that everything seems to be immune, what other chars can get a 300 mf and do alot of damage?? i was thinking maybe hammerdin ... or actually im really not sure.. i was just thinking hammerdin since he could do everything really and it isnt that hard to get 300 mf even on a hammerdin

and with my hammerdin char i could also go kill the act one countance for runes and that also would provide me with currency in theory?

Hammerdins are fine for MFing. I use mine to gather key sets, then use my smiter to gather up the organs (sometimes use the organs to get a torch, but very rarely).

Countess / Summoner / Nihlathak = key holders. I don't think (99% sure) you need MF to get keys.

Countess can also drop some nice runes as well. Heck, if you gather up some of the "lower" runewords (i.e. Spirit -- Tal Thul Ort Amn), that'll net you some currency.

so could you run by me what gear u use to get ur 300+ mf on ur hammerdin??

I don't have MF on my Hammerdin because I only do key runs with him.

I like the Avenger Paladin. The two main skills this Paly uses are Vengeance and Conviction. With this build you should be able to run into swarms of enemies, take everything they can throw at you and hit em back 10 times harder. My Avenger is lvl 80. He is equipped with the following:

Helm: Harlequin Crest Shako
Armor: Guardian Angel
Gloves: Soul Drainers (probably will transition to Draculs soon)
Belt: IK Belt (transitioning to arachnids or t-gods)
Shield: Herald Of Zakarum
Weapon: Perfect ethereal BOTD Zerker Axe (although you want a Call to Arms on switch for the BO, to boost your life and mana)
Rings: Raven Frost, SOJ
Ammy: Maras kaleidascope
Boots: War Travellers

My Skill distribution is as follows:
(20) Max Conviction (although maxing convic is not necessary because the returns diminish after lvl 15, I think)
(20) Max Vengeance
10 in each resistance aura (fire, light, cold) in order to boost vengeance damage
(20) Max Holy Shield

My stats:
Strength: Enough for gear.
Dext: Enough to maintain 75% to block in later stages of Hell Diff.
Vitality: Dumped every point I could spare into vital.
Energy: Nothing.

This is a fun character to play and it really benefits a party. Especially those party members geared more towards elemental attacks, ie; Sorceress, Ice Zon, Lightning Java, etc.... Here is the link for the guide http://strategy.diabloii.net/news.php?id=510

Hope this helps you out

I'm not a fan of avengers, chiefly because they are SLOW. You'll have a hard time if you get mobbed in pvm. I prefer characters with quick attacks; it spices things up. Telsadins are fun if you don't have great gear, just watch out for lightning immunes...
