Socketing items after using low quality --> normal quality cube formula

I checked the Arreat Summit, and it said that items have an ilvl of 1 after the formula is used. I’m assuming this means the max number of sockets the item can get will be 1, but I’m unsure if this is true. If it matters, the item in question is a Crown Shield.

ilvl=1 doesn't necessarily mean 1 socket. You can find a complete list here (http://www.diabloii.net/items/sockets-list.shtml).

this can be a nifty trick to use on cracked/damaged/crude/etc light elite armours.

by using the el + chippy recipe, you re-roll the base defence. setting the ilvl to 1 means larzuk will give it three sockets, not four.

personally, i "repair" all damaged Archon plates i come across, if i get a 500+ def roll, i'll spend the socket quest and have a nice 3os AP to trade off.

pity it can't become superior...

I've been wondering for a while now if this is worth doing with Paladin shields though?
Repairing the shields appears to re-roll the automods but I always get low ones on the repaired shield (i.e. low res or low ED/AR), which I wasn't sure whether it was just my bad luck or guaranteed b'coz the ilvl = 1?

Yes, automods and also staffmods are based off of the item lvl, this is a bad thing for automods (like on your pala shield) but sometimes it is a good thing (like on an assassin claw, possibly).

Yep, I picked a cracked/damaged Matriarcal Bow 12-36 dmg, +3 B&XB. So I thought let's repair it , set it to ilvl 1 and larzuk it for 3 soc.

Beurrkkk ! automod was reset to +1 B&B.

I'm not sure if and to which extent the bow/xbow bonus of amazon bows (or the jav bonus of amazon javs/spears) depends on the ilvl. However, things like res or ar/%ed bonuses on paladin shields do.

The AS shows the ilvl breakdown for automods on sorceress orbs, paladin shields, and necromancer shrunken heads, but not amazon weapons. Weird.
