View Full Version : Does Area lvl affect item stats?
OK, so I know that area lvl affects ilvl, and thus the stats of an item (ie jackle vs mammoth life suffixes, and it seems to also affect Jav skills on Ama Javs and spears, but not staff mods on rods/staves/scepters...). But I have always found that uniques seem to have lower-end stats the earlier I find them. Until tonight, when my norm questing, lvl 18 Sorc found a perfect MF Nagel's (30%). Are the stats perhaps weighted by Ilvl/alvl/something I don't fathom, or is it really completely random?
Thanks,
DudSpud
I believe it's completely random.

i bevlieve in each area there are ilvls and certain items will only drop there. like for example a hoz wont drop before meph nm... maybe someone can expand on this please.

The area level sets up the levels of the monsters (except for special monsters, like act bosses and a few super-uniques) and thus the ilvl of their drops. The item level and the base quality level of an item are used to calculate the affix level which determines the selection of possible affixes. The distribution of affixes is always the same, i.e. their probability relative to each other is constant.

Nagel rings dropped from Normal Andariel and Hell Baal would have equal chance to be 30% MF.
I read on this site, from one of the code-digging members that the level of a ctc skill depends on the mlvl of the monster that dropped it.
For example the fireball on Hellslayer (decapitator), the higher level monster would drop them with a ctc a higher lvl fireball

Yes, that's true and that's also the only one exception to what krischan and thegiantturtle said. At least the only one I can remember now.

Oh, that's new for me. Which "code digging member" was that ?
It was probably Hrus, but might be someone else. :rolleyes:

There was some discussion about it in SPF in Perfect grail thread (http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=517032) (around post #20 - 25).
Going through my Atma stashes looking at Hellslayer:
ilvl=83 (x1) ... lvl 18 Fireball
ilvl=86 (x6 - Pindle) ... lvl 19 Fireball
ilvl=87 (x18 - Meph, alvl85 champs) ... lvl 19 Fireball
ilvl=88 (x6 - alvl85 bosses, minions) ... lvl 20 Fireball
ilvl=99 (x6 - Baal) ... lvl 20 Fireball
When Orphan comes, I am quite certain he can provide the right formula...

No wonder all the hellslayers I found have lvl20 fireball and all the Lightsabre give lvl20 chain-lightning, because I only do hell baal runs. I've always been puzzled by this, thanks!

whoops i meant that it would :P
I read on this site, from one of the code-digging members that the level of a ctc skill depends on the mlvl of the monster that dropped it.
Yep, that's correct, mostly, though it's actually dependent on the ilvl of the item (which, if dropped from a monster, is the mlvl of the monster yes). It's also dependent on the skills level req (12, in the case of Fireball on HellSlayer)
Note that even though AS says that the Hellslayer axe can spawn with a lvl 16-20 fireball proc, that's only factoring in the earliest ilvl Decapitator capable of spawning as the Hellslayer. If the Decapitator axe had an ilvl of 1 for example, it would spawn with a 10% Chance To Cast Level 1 Fireball On Attack.
As far as I know, the actual equation for calculating it is:
MIN(20, (MAX(1, (ilvl-levelreq)/4+1)))
This was the last notes that I made on it when it was discussed at the AB, but it matches what Hrus has said with his ilvl items, as well as the few tests I did last night by playing around with the mlvl of monsters:
ilvl=83 (x1) ... lvl 18 Fireball
ilvl=86 (x6 - Pindle) ... lvl 19 Fireball
ilvl=87 (x18 - Meph, alvl85 champs) ... lvl 19 Fireball
ilvl=88 (x6 - alvl85 bosses, minions) ... lvl 20 Fireball
ilvl=99 (x6 - Baal) ... lvl 20 Fireball
