Hey there, I need to know the formula to calculate clvl req on items. The items in question are bloodfist heavy gloves and Swordback. I have them on my LLD V/T and want to up them (esp the shield for smite dmg).
Anyone lend a hand? I appreciate it.

Take the base item level required and increase it by 5 for upgrade from normal to exceptional, and 7 for upgrade from exceptional to elite.
If you upgrade Bloodfist to elite, for example, it will have base item level req for Vampirebone Gloves +12.

An item will get either the old level req (including reqs of stuff in a socket) or the req of the new item base type, whichever is higher, plus 5 for upgrading to exceptional and 7 for upgrading to to elite (12 for upgrading twice).
Example: Steeldriver (unique great maul) will have a level req of 34 (not 30) if upped to exceptional (martel de fer).

Anyone lend a hand? I appreciate it.You got the general formula. Here it is applied to the items you're interested in:
Bloodfist Heavy Gloves: rlvl = 9
Bloodfist Sharkskin Gloves: rlvl = MAX{9,25} + 5 = 30
Bloodfist Vampirebone Gloves: rlvl = MAX{9,47} + 12 = 59
Swordback Hold Spiked Shield: rlvl = 15
Swordback Hold Barbed Shield: rlvl = MAX{15,25} + 5 = 30
Swordback Hold Blade Barrier: rlvl = MAX(15,51} + 12 = 63
If your LLD is level 30, go ahead and up them once. If not, don't.
Also, if the Swordback Hold has a jewel in it with rlvl > 25, the Barbed Shield version will have rlvl = jewel_rlvl + 5.

Okay, thankyou very much. I can up both of them; super lol. :)
In the formula MAX{15,25} etc, where does that 25 come from?

In the formula MAX{15,25} etc, where does that 25 come from? The required level to equip a barbed shield (http://battle.net/diablo2exp/items/exceptional/shields.shtml).The idea is to find the highest level requirement on the new item out of {old_level_requirement, new_base_item_level_requirement, socketed_items_level_requirement} and then add 5, 7, or 12, depending on how much the item is upped.
