Hi all I'm going to use the WW/Trapper Hybrid Guide v1.2. I've played before but that was ages ago. Two questions. In the mentioned guide Ollie lists his skills.

1 Fire Blast
1+ Shock Web (All of your remaining skill points go here, around 12 usually, can be almost maxed if you level to 99, though that is a waste of time for most players)
20 Charged Bolt Sentry
20 Lightning Sentry
20 Death Sentry

Shadow Tree
1 Claw Mastery
1 Psychic Hammer
1 Burst of Speed
1 Cloak of Shadows
1-5 Fade
1 Weapon Block
1 Shadow Warrior
2 Mind Blast
1 Shadow Master
20 Venom

Martial Tree
1 Dragon Flight

Do I first put one point into Fire Blast then one into Shock Web then put 20 into Charged Bolt Sentry? Then put another 20 into Lightning Sentry moving on down the line?

2nd question is kinda fuzzy. Will this build get me through Hardcore? is this a pvp only build and not PvM? Thanks for taking the time to read this.

max the traps in this order: ls, ds, cbs or ds, ls, cbs.

yes it can go through hard core, with the shadow skills as backup those lightning traps should do just fine.

LS and DS are your priorities, as was said. Point those up first.


WW in PvM isn't very strong, especially one without Claw Mastery. In PvP you can bleed opponents with WW, but the massive health amounts of monsters makes it less useful. A lot of your hybrid playing in PvM will focus on you using Death Sentry effectively. Use that Cloak or Shadows and Mind Blast along with WW/Talon to get a few deaths, then Sentry it up.

What is your gear layout? I'm afraid this build will be 99% trapper and 1% WW. Your WW will probably not only be struggling with damage (and thus life and mana leech) but AR as well.

Just skip the WW-part. Nor will you need dragon flight and fade in my opinion. I also hate wasting points on venom, I rather have one nature's peace ring. Rather max shock web or even Shadow master (or both if you won't use venom).

I think the point was making a PvM char using WW. What you are suggesting is just a simple lightning trapper.

ok I've done some reading and I think I'm just gonna stick to PvM for now. I want to make a Hardcore char eventually but figure I should experience Hell and Nightmare so that I'm prepared for it.

My gear layout? No clue. Just hope I get lucky with drops? I'm pretty new to all this. Never even finished the original D2.

I guess all I wanted was a good Assassin build and saw the guide and said well if its for PvP it must be good for PvM. What do you guys suggest I do? So far this is how I look.

Fire Blast 1
Shock Web 1
Charged Bolt Sentry 2or3 can't remember

Claw Mastery 1
Psychic Hammer 1

and I got a whole bunch of points saved up.

hmm I seemed to have missed the sticky on Assassin builds. Maybe looking that over would help me out huh :laugh:

edit: I'm going with the "The PvM Untwinked Lightning Trapper - by jrichard" My final and last question. Will this Build get me to Hell and beyond?

Ubers? Perhaps thats even more hell to him then hell it self. :prop:

Anyway, with a trapper you can easily survive in hell.

Then nope, lighttrappers that go into ubers go to hell (naked, reappearing in town type of arival) :tongue:

Actually I have another question. What is the timeout/auto disconnect at? In other words, if I do absolutely nothing and just stand there at what point does the game kick me?

No idea, it's a mystery. Sometimes you get kicked fast and at other times you may stand unactive for hours. Not sure if having any screens up helps but I allways put up message log anyway for some reason ...
Well there's allways the possebility to get yourself stuck somewhere to run forever, keeps the game running.

The LS/DS/FB build certainly will, and is IMO the most fun to play.
