I have a cookie cutter Pally and have 75% resists in Hell. Trying to get over 75% I loaded up on poison/lightning resist charms and I'm still at 75%. Blizzard says "certain items will take you over 75%" and I know I've seen screen shots of chars over 75%. What items? My act 2 def merc is at 90% and I'd sure like to join him! Help appreciated.....

There are items which increase your maximum resists, so you can pump them up furtherly. The very best of them is Guardian Angel, a unique templar coat which adds 15% to all maximum resists.

There are even a few skills which increase maximum resists, like the resist fire/cold/lightning auras. The paladin himself will get +1 to max res of the element per hard point spent when the aura is active and half as much when it's not active. Skill bonuses don't add to that.

Maximum resists are capped at 95%.

But it is still useful to get way over the point of 95% at hell, when thinking about Conviction-aura'd enemies like UberMeph.

Overstacking for the Ubers is different. It's all about having more resists than will show on the screen. Max resists of 75% is plenty, but you need for your resists to stay maxed (or at least close) after Mephisto's aura takes effect. To do that, you must counter the -125% to resists from his Conviction aura.

During "normal" play, having gear that boosts your resists much beyond 75% is generally useless unless you can raise your maximum resists with some of the gear / skills suggested above. There are a few exceptions (lower resist and low level conviction auras), but there are far less powerful.

just look on the modifier "+X% to maximum (75) resist" on items - only sets and uniques wield it.
as a matter of fact for pallies exclusively - the defensive auras fire/cold/lightning resist have a hidden bonus for increasing maximum resistances 0.5 per 1 skill point invested in particular elemental resist, e.g.
10 in fire resist aura = +5% to max fire resist
16 in cold resist aura = +8% to max cold resist
20 in light. resist aura = +10% to max light. resist
and note that these are passive bonuses - you don't have to have any of the auras active to benefit from those bonuses.
this is just a side note to the topic as if u arent going avenger paladin build, investing skill points only to increase max resists is a waste.

So what's the difference between getting +integer resists(tals' mask) and +% resists(rare rings, other items). Which is better?

There is nothing like "integer resists". Resistances are always percentages and so are resistance bonuses. For some reason, Arreat Summit shows allres bonuses without the percent sign. Tal's mask adds 15% to all resists.

Oh, okay. I wonder why certain items omit the % sign then (vipermagi, wiz spike, etc. It's not just Arreat Summit, that's what it shows in-game, too, which is why I was confused about whether or not there was a difference.
Thanks for clearing that up, though. Explains why it isn't explained in the resistance section at AS.
