I cannot, no matter how hard I try, get my avatar to fit the incredibly nonsensical avatar settings. It's starting to tick me off. I have photoshop, but I can't seem to change the file size at all to the ridiculous 9.8 KB(WHO thought of this??? How much lower can they get???) without it looking like a pixeled mess. I remember having to ask someone to change my avatar size, but this time I need myself to do it or I'm never going to learn. So can anyone help me out here? (Just need to change file size)
Thanks!
ps. I feel really stupid posting this, after all it's only a freekin' avatar.. oh and if you want, feel free to share your feelings about this!

you could link to it and give people a chance to tweak it
if it's animated you can't upload it anyways
It depends on the avatar. I only ever had size problems with animated GIFs, but that's over now since only PALs can have animated avatars now.
Generally when I resize my JPGs to 75x75, they're already less than 9.8KB.

1) You're an idiot for getting mad at the size limit because you are too incompetent with photoshop to size it down.
2) Link me to your picture and I will do it for you.

It's a simple 26.8 KB avatar...

I resized it to 75x75 and I can't get it lower than 26..
Yes, I'm an idiot, but I don't care. Happy idiot day everyone! (Not exactly the answer I was looking for ;))
Edit: Let me know what you did -.- so I'm a slightly higher idiot - lol. Thanks for the help.

Thankies
This is the only simple thing I do not know how to do with photoshop. I made the avatar, but I couldn't get it the right file size. Pretty sad, huh?

I know one way of doing it. Once you have it down to 75X75, push the "print screen" button, which takes a copy of whatever's on your screen. Open up good ol' Microsoft Paint, paste the screenshot, and then cut out the 75X75 avatar from said shot. Save it as a .jpg and it will almost certaintly be under the forum's size limit. This is how us non-photoshop users do it, anyway.
photoshop usually saves jpg files at the highest quality possible. You can adjust that during the save process. Other programs such as ms paint don't do that and sometimes you lose signficant quality.
but for image files such as avatars, there's really little difference.
The alternative method is if you have photoshop, import the image into imageready and save it as a GIF file. For most avatars, you shouldn't lose any quality.

I use this:

Oh, you used PhotoShop... that would explain your size problem.
I just use Microsoft Photo Editor.

Actually, I did it with Photoshop only--so, there is a way and it takes no more than 5 seconds.

Ah yes, the secret way yet to be revealed by masterazn, and H is an idiot for not knowing it. Makes perfect sense.
I, too, hate the [non pal] size restrictions.
Yeah, photoshop saves in ridiculously high res by default.
You could always download the Gimp.
I use the GIMP, be warned though; it can be very annoying.

Haha - just keep rubbing it in eh? Well if I was interested in knowing I would have specifically asked you about it. I'll find someone with my type of sense of humor to tell me  Thanks for the avatar, though, very much appreciated. I'm sure I'll just stick with the Image ready feature, after all it's the only one I know!
