View Full Version : Looking for a silly theme build.
This is a crosspost from the SPF. Original thread is here: http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=537244
Anyways, I am doing a septevirate, all of which are weird themed characters, and I am out of ideas when it comes to the druid (and necromancer too).
I want something that is reasonable do-able, yet still has a bit of a silly theme to it.
Please note, I am single player, and PvM, so please don't suggest any of the high-end runewords/other gear that I have no real hope of ever getting.
Thanks in advance.
Artic Avenlord
Max Ravens
Max Hurricane
Max Artic Blast
Max Frozen Armor
1+ Oak
Basically, you use Artic Blast as your main weapon. Hurricane chills and damages monsters who get near. Your ravens blind and scout out monsters.
Basically, your merc will have to deal with the cold immunes. Each of your Five birds will be dealing 20-30 points of dmg per hit so good luck.
I like this build idea. I thought of doing a wind/fire hybrid, but this one seems more viable. I shall have to look into synergies and such.
Thanks

Blech, I love ugly builds, but I just hate Arctic Blast (except on Barbs, because they look freaking *AWESOME* casting it- give a Barb dual Frostwinds and have him cast Arctic Blast and he hovers in a crouch up in the air with his arms to either side holding the swords like wings, and he can pivot in place and basically just spew awesomeness). In my mind, all it's good for is spreading chill in a hurry (sort of a poor-man's Frost Nova).
The coolest themed build I've heard was an unshifted melee druid (seriously, who ever plays unshifted melee druids?). Equip an Earthshifter, get a very powerful Volcano, tank an enemy, open a Volcano under their feet, and then whack away with your Earthshifter during the casting timer (you'll be the first druid to put Earthshifter to good use!).
Edit: Of the three builds mentioned so far, your Wind/Fire Hybrid is definitely the most viable. Max Fissure, Volcano, Cyclone Armor, and Tornado, put a point each in Armageddon and Hurricane for visual effects, and go to town. Additional points can go in the summons tree (spirits or a Grizzly) or Hurricane (to boost your Tornado damage).

How about a bowler? Max Molten boulder and synergies. You probably want to get some summons, Cyclone Armor and a 1-pt Hurricane so you're safe and don't have a hard time aiming.

Monk with 'powerful' spells
Use ribcracker as weapon, you have to kill almost all by yourself. Those spells are just decoys, you just look powerful.
Elemental:
10 Fissure
10 Cyclone Armor
all the rest 1 point, this give 30s hurricane and armageddon (both very weak).
Rest points goes to Summoning:
15 Raven to max blind effect
20 Spirit wolf your 'powerful' friends
1 Oak sage
20 Heart of wolferine gives you ar, so you can hit with that staff.
1 Solar Creeper gives you some mana to recast wolfs.
Easy to level using fissure and spirit wolfs, after lvl31 (ribcracker) you are killing machine. Ravens blinds monsters and hurricane slows them, so it should be quite safe build.
Try to get lots of crushing blow from your items, maybe add some points to bear and other wolf to make those spirit wolfs little more durable.

The idea of 'shepherding' my wolves into combat with a Ribcracker, I like it. I don't know how viable a summoner is, with the below-par gear that I will have access to, but I shall certainly give it a try.

I think the build that DH Amazon described is original, but not effective. Spirit Wolves and Fissure without synergies will be a waste.
How about a non-shapeshifting melee druid, built around Armageddon and Hurricane? It's still on my list to try sometime but I haven't gotten around to it yet.
Skill setup:
20 Fissure
20 Armageddon
20 Cyclone Armor
1 Hurricane
20 Oak Sage or Wolves/Bear or Armageddon synergy
6 prerequisites.
rest in Hurricane.
Equip Earthshifter, obviously.
Play style is easy: cast Cyclone Armor, Hurricane and Armageddon whenever necessary, and bash enemies with Earthshifter. Use Fissure for ranged attackers you can't reach quickly.

You are right it's not effective. It was do-able silly build. You could use those points much better doing same kind of build.
That Earthshifter is good, but it's so slow (70IAS -> 16 , 92IAS -> 15). So you mainly do elemental damage.
Ribcracker (58IAS-> 12 86IAS -> 11) gives nice speed. (I have done sorc build around this weapon, and she could clear quite fast whole level around mephisto and kill all in travincal too, in hell level and full game). So that speed is enough for crushing blow. EnhancementSorc has huge fire damage, but those fire immunes went down quite nicely too. I tried to reduce fire part, so I only used 20 enchantment (no synergies) and she still did great job. Enchantement was used only to get ar.
Holyfreeze merc with kelpie snare or woestave was my tank then, so that should work with druid also.
Oh, and that fissure was only for synergy reason to get same 30 s timer for hurricane and armageddon. No use in nmare or hell.
More powerful build around ribcracker using human form could be like this.
Half points to elemental and half for summoning (46+46).
15 Raven (for blind effect)
1 Spirit Wolf
1 Oak sage (you dont need huge life, you stay behind your merc or bear)
20 Heart of Wolverine (for ar reason and when maxed stays alive)
4 Dire Wolf ( to give bear some life and you could use wolfs while leveling)
5 Bear (some life and some damage, use as another tank to keep merc alive)
Elemental (how to put those 46 points)
5 Fissure (gives +10sec for armageddon)
5 Cyclone Armor (+10 sec for hurricane and some buffer yourself when monster explode near you)
10 Hurricane (some damage, mainly for slowing down effect)
20 Armageddon (some damage)
1 for all the rest in elemental tree.
Gear: use +skill items for 2nd hand side to cast good bear and heart of wolverine and maybe raven. A total +5skills should be enough.
For main attack, try to focus speed, poison damage(treachery is best for that poison damage, that venom stays like 2min) ,cannot heal, resist and life and maybe some more crushing blow (aim for 75-90%).
Best place to enjoy this kind of build is tranvincal, full game. You can take one monster at time there and those immunes are nice challenge for any build.
And do that one Q so that one monster group run away, little easier that way.

nono, what you realy want is the BearBlaster!
max grizly and moltenboulder.
ofc you throw synergies in to the molten.
this build dosent work any way, so you wont need any gear at all

Actually that sounds like a semi-standard fire elemental druid. More in summons than might be normal, but if you're not too worried about high fire damage (and there aren't many PIs anywho) then it's a fine build.

It's called a Shaman >.>.
At any rate, I personally like the CtC Wind Wolf idea that I believe Jary Posted awhile back. Sounds like fun. Lemme see if I can dig up his build.
