This is probably in a sticky somewhere that I just missed. If so, I'm sorry.

Anyway, what is the best way to use a 2nd character as a pack mule when you are the only person? I assume you have to make two accounts.

Thanks.

If ya only have acces to one diablo at a time, its best to make mule on same account.

The technic I used before I got my 2nd computer and 2nd diablo2 cds set is pretty simple.

-Make a game with pass

-Wait 5+ minutes in that game

-Exit game

-Wait 1 full minute in channel

-Rejoin the game

As long the game allows you to come back after these steps its "permed" and therefore ya can leave and rejoin this game to "safely" transfer.

A "permed" game can be left and rejoin within 5 minutes before it close, but dont go too fast or too slow, see reasons below.

So having mule on same account is better for easy quick acces.

If ya have acces to two copy of diablo at a time, Its preferable ya make a 2nd account for muling.
When on same account with 2 diferent copy of diablo2 if two of your character are in the channel at same time bnet kicks you out.

You can always use the same account with 2 copies, just make sure you don't get in channel at same time with both.
Anyway there should always be a mule in a game to hold it, so you should not have to worry

As for how to get 2 copies of diablo running on same computer ya will have to dig further in the forums.
I am lucky enough to own 2 computers and 2 cpoies myself and never tried doing that.

WARNING

This method is not 100% fool proof, bnet might deciede for no apparent reason to close the game as a crash of any sort.

You can get a realm down if ya join the game too fast with different character while transfering, therefore loosing the game and item still on the ground.

When using this method always remember that any item ya drop to transfer might be lost at some point.

Items do dissapear by their own if left on ground for too long. Length depends on items type for exampe runeword and white items poof after about 5 minutes while gold can stay for hours on ground.

The best way is to get a trusted friend to hold your items for you while you switch to another char. If there's no one available, you can create a game, wait 5 minutes, drop your items on the ground, and return with another character, as the game will stay up for an additional 5 minutes even if no one is in it.
