View Full Version : A few 'nonsense' questions about some mods
If ignorance is bliss, then allow me to apologize for being so blissful when it comes to game knowledge. Game gurus please illuminate me.
1st question) 2*ring with half freeze duration = Cannot Be Frozen? If i had to answer this i would say this is false, however the logic assumption would be to to think its true.
2nd question) Circlet with poison length reduced by 75% + ring with poison length reduced by 25% = Poison damage has no effect whatsoever over character? This one also eludes me. The logic assumption is to answer true, but i think its false.
3rd question) Can a character with Damage reduced by 50% (cap), let's say SS + perfect dungo, benefit from the mod 'damage reduced by X' (e.g, amu 'of life everlasting')? I have no theory about this one.
4th question) What types of damage does MDR actually affects? I know it doesn't affect physical :jig:
Thanks in advance for input!

What? And take away you're blissfulness? That'd make me evil.... :wink3:

No. With the "half freeze duration" and "Cannot be frozen" modifiers, only 1 source counts. Having multiple sources of "half freeze duration" is pointless, as is having multiple sources of "cannot be frozen"
2nd question) Circlet with poison length reduced by 75% + ring with poison length reduced by 25% = Poison damage has no effect whatsoever over character? This one also eludes me. The logic assumption is to answer true, but i think its false.
Poison length reduction is capped at 75%. That said, this particular attribute is also affected by the Nightmare and Hell difficulty penalties. On normal, your character has 0% poison length reduction, and you only need 75% to cap it out. On NM, you get a -40% penalty, and on Hell you get -100%. This means that on hell, you need 175% poison length reduction to max it.
3rd question) Can a character with Damage reduced by 50% (cap), let's say SS + perfect dungo, benefit from the mod 'damage reduced by X' (e.g, amu 'of life everlasting')? I have no theory about this one.
Yes. There's an order for how damage is calculated. It's longer than this, but for those two attributes the straight damage reduction is calculated first, followed by the damage reduced by %: EG
Your character has 50% damage reduction
Your character also has straight damage reduction of 10
You're hit by an attack that deals 100 physical damage.
First, the damage is reduced to 90 (due to the straight damage reduction of 10)
Then, the damage is reduced to 45 (due to the % damage reduction)
4th question) What types of damage does MDR actually affects? I know it doesn't affect physical :jig:
Straight "Magic damage reduced by x" affects lightning, fire, cold and magic attacks.
Edit: By "magic" attacks, I mean attacks like Bone Spear, Bone Spirit and Blessed Hammer.
You are not that evil Orphan :) Thanks for the useful answers. However, you raised a few more questions on my part. Care to elaborate, please.
I'm not following on answer #2. It seems that you are talking about poison resistance. I'm well aware of the resistances cap and difficulty penalties. Just to clarify, what i was asking about was the mod 'poison length reduced by X%' (the poison duration) not the mod 'poison resistance' (like in light, fire, cold res), or are they treated the same in terms of game mechanics?
Answer #3 is really insightful in build ideas.
One more clarification, please, on answer #4 I'm assuming MDR doesn't affect poison attacks, right?

I'm not actually talking about poison resistance  . "Poison length reduced by" is another property, similiar to poison resistance, that the game uses to determine how much damage you take from a poison attack.
For poison attacks, there's 2 modifiers. First, there's how much damage per frame the poison attack dishes out, and then there's how long the poison lasts for. Poison resistance affects the former, while poison length reduced by affects the latter. Both affect how much damage your character takes from poison damage.
The thing is, the character screen doesn't show all your "resistances". "Poison length reduced by" is not displayed, and nor is your magic resistance (the property that you can only find on crafted safety shields). Your character's physical resistance isn't displayed either. "Damage reduced by x%" is really simply your character's physical resistance.
Note though that your magic and physical resistances are not affected by the difficulty penalties (-40% on nightmare, -100% on hell). "Poison length reduction" is affected though.
One more clarification, please, on answer #4 I'm assuming MDR doesn't affect poison attacks, right?
That is correct, yes
