View Full Version : Building a 1.07 Sorc that is viable in 1.10 and 1.11?

I'm playing SP (so my only concern is a PvM build) and I'm also playing 1.07. This is intentionally to do "rack running" which can yield the "vita" items from 1.07 and 1.08.

To quote the 1.07 guide:
"Cold Mastery pierces the Cold IMMUNITY of the monsters! So with maxed Cold Mastery you can cruise through the entire game with only Frozen Orb!

- Static Field has no caps. You can take any monsters in the game on every difficulty to sliver with it..."

Ok, so obviously I want 3 points in lightning skills to get teleport and static. Also, I want to max cold mastery and frozen orb. Really, from what I understand that's all I need to get by in 1.07.

However, I'd like to eventually bring her into 1.10 or 1.11 (I play single player only and I play multiple versions to get different items). The key is to find a build that won't suffer from the skill point allocations. I've looked at meteorb sorcs and I'm just not sure about all the points they would require in fire skills.

I'm thinking about a Orb/FW sorc. It seems that she would do well in 1.07 and still be viable later on. I could max orb and cm and then work on firewall and fm. Anything left over could go into orb's synergy.

Is this a decent idea? Also, I'm a little unsure about stat point allocation. A lot of builds seem to focus on max block or tons of mana. I don't mind using potions and I try not to get hit too much. So, any suggestions as to if I need dex at all, how much strength would be needed for the best sorc items and so on is suggested. Basically I'm a Sorc newbie...

Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions. I'm open to any input. I'd also take equipment advice but in 1.07 finding anything decent isn't easy...

Hi m8.

My advice is to do two sorcs and let the 1.07 sorc stay in that version.
Why?

Because in 1.07 you want to max Static (max this first) and Teleport. Sure you can do without but its so much nicer to teleport without having to gulp potions. And without max static its going to take quite some time to finish the game as it really helps in killing speed.

Just my two cents m8..

I guess firewall and orb are the only 2 skills that didn't change much since 1.07. So you could possibly get 20FW,20 FM, 20 FO, 10 CM but that would make you non viable in 1.11 hell.

Then again you could do 20 FO, as low as you can in CM and try to make it in 1.07, then go for a hybrid build like Meteorb or LightOrb. Problem is being succesful in 1.07 without wasting too many points in skills that stopped being cool (static, FW, Teleport)

Well, since I can have unlimited purples in 1.07 I'm not so sure about maxing teleport. I did consider it, but I think I'll have enough mana to get around fairly well.

As far as static goes, that is a good idea really. I've managed to get fairly far through using a item that granted the static skill (static static potion static heh) and letting my merc finish the job. I suppose I'm a little reluctant because I should be able to get it to a reasonable level with +1 skills.

The other trick is I'm only making her to do runs really. In 1.07 I think she'll be doing rack running exclusively. However, I don't play any other Sorcs so I might want her to do something 1.10 (beta) Countess runs or something that having teleport will benefit greatly from. So... killing power in 1.07 is kind of secondary to making her viable in 1.10 beta. I mean the main thing is finding a way to beat hell ancients (static potion static) and I'll be fairly high level anyway.

The hard part is taking down the ancients with a low level static but it can be done. ITs just so much nicer with a higher static.

But yeahn you should be able to complete the game with 20FO and one point in static,teleport,warmth (you can do without wrmth aswell).
