Hi.

well im gonna make my first lld sorc, and i was thinking of making frost nova :)

items:

helm: 2+ cold, 20 fcr, other mods circlet socket p ruby

Armor: viper, socketed p ruby

Shield: Visceratuant Socketed eld

Rings: soj + fcr ring

Gloves: Magefist

Belt: no idea. need opions :)

Weapon: Rare orb with 4+ frost nova

Amu: 1-2 cold skills 10 fcr amu.

Inventory:

str/dex/life sc's.

Skills:

Max frost nova
1 point frozen orb
1 point warmth
1 point cold mastery
1 point teleport
7 points blizzard
rest into shiver armor

This gives me:

-65 cold res
around 250 frost nova dmg
500 blizz dmg
105 fcr
max block

Well questions are:

Can this work?

Can 2-3 cold skill, 3+ frost nova 20 fcr spawn on lvl 30 req orbs?

Can 2+ cold skills 10 fcr spawn on lvl 30 amus? :)

What belt and boots to use?

Need your opinions :)

Make a Frozen Orb / Blizzard Sorceress instead. Frost Nova is just not useful enough and too hard to hit with and just pathetic damage.

7 Blizzard
1 Frozen Orb
1 Cold Mastery
15 Ice Bolt
1 Chilling Armor
1 Energy Shield
1 Warmpth
1 Thunder Storm
1 Lightning Mastery

Spirit Crystal Sword
Viscertaunt (Eld)
Viper Magi (PSaph/Ruby)
+2 Life/Mana Amulet
+2 20% FCR Circlet (PSaph/Ruby)
Magefist
Stone of Jordon
Stone of Jordon
String of Ears
Cow King's Boots

This might not be what you expected but this is what I would do if I made a LLD Cold Sorceress. I really like the stun from Thunder Storm and Frozen Orb is very versatile. Energy Shield is a god send at low levels.

The real question is why you wanna make a frost nova sorc...

ekorren, you seems to have some troubles deciding... first it was light, then fire and now cold... I bet you'll end up a physical dmg melee sorc

nonono, the real question is why on earth you like frost nova. And why you named yourself after a squirrel. /OT/

Anyway, Frost nova damage is really low, but I guess with enough + skills your damage will be somewhat ok? if the CM gets high enough... My bet is that it wont be nearly as good as blizzard, fb of cb or anything like that, but if you like it, then go for it, its a gme designed to have fun with. And be sure to post the results, I am wondering if you will do any damage, at all really :P (*keeps in mind that level 1 Fnova does like 2-4 damage*)

edit: why would you use Frost nova when blizzard deals twice the damage? (looking at your first post)
and secondly, why are you making a level 30 lld? Are there any other lld at level 30 out there? else you'll just be a low level MLD, I though most LLD were either 18 or 29, 30 gives some chars too big adcantage i believe

There's actually a lot of level 30 LLDs. www.lld101.com (sorry if I'm not allowed to post this). VLLD = 9-15'ish, MLLD = 15-21'ish, and LLD = 21'ish-30. It's quite fun actually. I love LLD and I plan to make more LLD characters than I have high levels.

Good belt options at your level are string of ears (%DR, MDR) nightsmoke (resists, damage to mana) and bladebuckle (stats, FHR, but larger str req than the other two).

I think it would be fun - timered and untimered attacks for maximum spammage. Just be aware that you're really outclassed in damage by other casters your level. Hammerdins can crank out 1200 damage hammers without breaking a sweat, and a necro can post up 600 damage bonespears with 300 or so bone armor, and decrep on top of that. Although you have cold mastery to pierce resistances down to zero, neighter of those magic attacks have any resistance to begin with, so the point is moot.

Another route you could try would be blizzard / gspike or blizzard/iceblast.

However I agree overall with Maccat, at levels 30-33 orb has more potential just because it's so easily to apply and you can get great damage without a lot of points invested. Using gear comparable to what you have (+9 coldskills) you can get a lvl 30, 1 pt orb sorc to 150 damage per shard. This takes 7 points. You have a lot of options for the other 26-34 available points (depends upon how far you rush her). The most interesting to me is a mini-tank ES build. Invest 20 points into TK, and get as much ES as you can. Here's what I would do:

Baseline Lvl 30 ES/orber
----------
Vipermagi
Pcrown
Spirit weapon
Frostburns or Bloodfist
1 stone of jordan
1 fcr/mana ring
+1 sorc / mods amulet (this can be pretty good at lvl 30!)
Visceraunt
Sanders boots (CK if ya got em they give a little better stats)
string of ears.

A norm rush will give you 33 points to spend:
7 points in cold tree - 1 orb, 5 prereqs and 1 mastery point
25 points in lightning tree - 20 TK, 1 ES and 4 prereqs
1 point in fire - warmth

This setup gives you +7 all skills. Level 8 is a sweet spot for energy shield, diminishing returns start to hit you then. Gives you 55% absorb, 65 FCR even with a rock bottom spirit, max TK, 112-120 orb shard damage and 55 pierce. That might not sound like much, but it'll be very easy to hit people with a few shards and rack up damage. You can also tank like a mofo for a sorc your level. Your mana should be high, boost it with charms and build your sorc such that you hit 0 life and 0 mana at the same time when you're attacked. If you make her right, she will be able to take some serious hits.

A nightmare rush is very beneficial - pump all those points into energy shield and start dropping +all skills gear for +cold skill gear. Replace the +1 sorc amulet and pcrown first, with that sweet +2 cold / FCR circ and amulet. With that extra FCR, you can start looking into 105 FCR for teleporting (35 spirit / 30 vipermagi / 10 amulet / 10 circlet / 20 magefist nails it).

You can also stash an insight on your switch for when you don't need blocking. Meditation can make you extremely tough, pump more life than mana through charms if you go this route. Insight doesn't have to imply a loss in damage: you can make it in a +3orb +3CM (tough to get but conceivable) and lose nothing. Insight has 35 FCR so you don't even lose a casting breakpoint. You can also get energy shield from your insight staff, just look for good staffs and then build around what you find.

Just sharing ideas, I've had this fleshed out for a while but never got around to making it.

To save you the trouble of making a build that won't work.

Help to your questions:

Can this work?
Work where? You can bash your way through normal witha cracked club.

Can 2-3 cold skill, 3+ frost nova 20 fcr spawn on lvl 30 req orbs?
+2 sorc can spawn at lvl38(or 37 not sure).+2 cold at lvl30 and +3 spawns on lvl 45. +3 Frost nova is possible (not sure) at the same lvl as Frost Nova (6). Don't forget Lower resist charges.

Can 2+ cold skills 10 fcr spawn on lvl 30 amus? :)
Yeah.+2 is again lvl 30.

What belt and boots to use?

You best bet at both is a rare with decent stats at what you want. Guessing resists and +mana are great. On belts I've seen 24% fhr,+60 max life and resistances are probably capped on 30%. Boots can get 30% frw,max mf of 25% (rare) and half freeze is always nice. Max res for boots is 40%. So you can get 30% in 2 elements with belt and 40% on the other 2 with boots.

Other choices include:
Belt
Caster Belt for fcr and mana
String for DR
Iratha's if you wanna go for the whole set which I love.
Nightsmoke but I hate the slots.

Boots
Natalya's Soul for 40% frw and reses
Tearhaunch for reses
Caster boots not worth it. No fcr

Just to clarify, String isn't used for the %DR. It'd used for the MDR and does it ever help. I mean, the %DR is a gravy bonus but for how many melee LLD you will duel and their pathetic damage. You really don't negate that much damage.
