only+8all skills with mf gear whcih seems to be all i ever use.


Can kill everything easily in up to 4 player games, otherwise just takes a little longer. could easily add 75 mf by switching to 4xist mon, but not sure its worth it.might switch to a ryhme monarch though.

Still got like 24 open slots also for mf/sc vitas or light GC's

Your sorc sounds nice, but I don't see the point of comparing MF sorcs, without mentioning how much effort you put into MF'ing and what items are you targeting for.
Like some people will load up MF with laughable resistance, and only run Pits. Some will try to achieve all max and run Baal. Some specialize in running Andy and Meph for lucrative items like Arachnid, Hoz or Soj, but with almost no chance of TC87 items. And of course, 99% of people will do no more than 200 MF runs and give up:smiley:

Long ago, I had a pure es/orb andy/mephisto runner, before the 1.10b runewords came out (insight/infinity)

Orb: 800-900 Damage
MF: 300% (diminishing returns is stupid)
4k Combined Mana/Life

Did over 2.5k manual (no MH) andy/mephisto runs.

for runs i do it in this order,
countess,pits,andy,summoner,meph,frigid,thresh socket,pindle, then finally baal. If there are 4 or more people in the game i usually add in diablo to ice the cake

My MF Tal's Meteorb atm, remaking very soon for more FB dmg.

7.8k-8.5k Fire Ball @ -15% resist
17k-18k Meteor @ -15% resist
530-554 Orb @ -90% resist

2209 life, 1067 mana with 1bo CTA. Base Energy.

80/75/75/75 resists.

105% FCR - a must!!!
86% FHR - useful!!!

1634 defense, 15% block with base Dex.

roughly 300% MF right now, but still have open sockets on Orb, Helm and Armor that can be Ist'd/PTopaz'd.


1/1/1 Tal's Orb... sucky. Will Ist when I find 2/x/2
Tal's Mask... open socket, will PTopaz when I can be bothered.
Tal's Armor... low def, will PTopaz if/when find higher one.

I'm remaking for higher Fire Ball damage. Projected damage about 8.5k-9k FB, 16k-17k Meteor damage with same gear. I'm going to max Fire Bolt instead of Fire Mastery, it results in much higher overall fire damage. I'm also not going to put a point in Cold Mastery, instead letting Tal's Orb grant me it for free. That's another skill point that can go toward fire damage.

Why not War Travs instead of Waterwox? Adds your 40-50 MF and you dont lose super much HP.

Is Infinity merc really needed to reach Baal? I was going to get an act1 rogue for the hell of it but I was told it'll be too hard to do mf baal/minions without a tank.

Infinity helps immensely for a light sorc, but will make no difference for a Blizz sorc as most Cold immunities can't be broken anyway.

I did use War Travs for a long time. They were great, but I decided to give them to my Bowazon for more damage. They're now on my Avenger, to give him a lot more damage.

I find that killing speed and survivability are #1 priority when making a MF character. There's no point in having 500%+ MF if it takes you 5 minutes to tele to Meph and kill him, and you die every now and then too. If it takes you only 2 minutes, and never die, then you've doubled your productivity.

I had a pair of Waterwalks lying around, looked at the mods on them, and threw them in. The 15 dex brings me up to 80 dex total, good for 15% block with Spirit at level 89. 80% fire resist is nothing to scoff at either. Great when tanking Infector of Souls in Chaos, against Meteor-dropping Ghoul Lords, or when MF'ing Diablo.

Not an Infinity merc, no. But a merc as a tank, yes. Always. As a sorceress, you need a tank between you and the enemy. You can't blast the enemy if you're stuck in blocking/FHR animation, or if you need to teleport out of the way of attackers.

Depending on if you have mana problem. Personally I'd rather taking pots than using an insight merc.

ammy: +3 cold skills
armour: jewelers plate mail of equilibrium with 4x PTopaz (she used a 4ptopaz dusk for ages, but the plate looks so kewl on a sorc)
belt: snowclash
gloves: chancies
shield: rhyme heater (might switch for a Rhyme trolls nest just for looks)
wep: +2 sorc/+3blizz/+2 Cold Mastery magic orb, (no socky yet)
rings: 2x Nagels
boots: some rare mf jobbies, need an upgrade.

switch: ali-baba/rhyme.

:sunny: max block, 86fhr, ~800 life without BO, i have no idea how much MF she's packin :sunny:

my $0.02:
Insight, Obedience or (if you have no qualms about using duped runes or have gotten very lucky), an Infinity stick. all of these should be made in some sort of ethereal elite polearm. i like range, so a Cryptic Axe, Great Poleaxe or Giant Thresher are the preffered base weapons.

Kind of off topic but I know the Ancient Tunnels is a good place for Cold Sorceress to magic find because of very few immunes. What kind of immunes are in the Ancient Tunnels? What build runs them + Mephisto the best?

there are, akaik, no cold immunes in the Ancient Tunnels (some unique monster may have it, but not ordinary creeps)

so, i'd say some kind of COLD sorc would be best for the ancient tunnels. a Blizzy's ability to hose down Meph is well documented. orb can work, but takes a little longer and is harder to pull off the "moat trick" with. in either case, a base point in Static Charge speeds the process up nicely.

Orb is definately faster for running tc 87 areas, hits hard and fast and goes a long way, blizzard works better with mephisto. I have run the ancient tunnels with my blizzard sorc, but its rather frustrating, and tend to use spammy spells like glacial spike more.

The range of weapons doesn't affect mercs. At all.

IIRC Act 2 mercs have a range of 2 with all weapons he can use.
