hi.

- I am new to the whole sorceress world, but I am following a guide ( sort of ) to get where I think it's fun. There is one thing that I dont get though, and thats the block %.
- Currently I am lvl 40 and I have a Moser's on ( will just use this to explain ). I have invested 5 points into dex, total so far. But When I check to see how on average I will block XX's incomming, I get 12%. and iirc Moser's have around 57%. I just dont get this part of the game. Should I invest more in dex. to get it higher or am I missing something here ?

- I have seen 2 calculations ( thanks Sasja ) but english aint my native tounge ( so to speak ) and some are explained in D2 terms I am sorta lost.
-----Using Moser's as an example-----
1) Total blocking = (shield block %) * (dex - 15) / (level * 2)
this would be : 57% x dex 30 -15 ( and that last part I dont get )

2) Dexterity: enough for max blocking with your chosen shield, i.e. 15 + 75 * (level * 2) / (shield block %)

- I really hope there are some that could explain this to me in none D2 terms and glossary... just plain and simple :)

- Thanks in advance.

P.S. -Edit, I play NL .. if that has anything to do with it...

hi.

1) Then divide by your (level x 2). Yes your character level...Kinda silly isn't it?
So lets say you are level 80 the calculation will be

57% x (30-15) / 160 (this is 80*2) = 5% Yep that low...
Now I can find your level!
12% (You said that's your current block) = 57% (moser's block) x 15 (your dexterity minus 15) / (level*2) => your level is 35-36 right?

2) This formula calculates the dexterity required for 75% block with a given level and a given shield. It's basically the same formula but you solve for dexterity instead of current block

So to get 75% block with Moser's at lvl 35 you do

DEX NEEDED = (75%(max block) * 70 (your level*2) / 57%) + 15 = 107
There you go. You need 107 dexterity to have 75% block chance using Moser's Shield at level 35.
You might think that's insanly high since you don't need Dex for AR or anything else but there has been alot of debate proving IT IS useful to invest 200+ points in Dexterity to achive max block instead of just dumping it on Vitality. Another viable solution is pumping energy and using EnergyShield but that will also take alot of skill points.

Just look at those till you digest them or just use the plain and handy utility

Well i have this view for mage characters strictly in PvM so think i shall share :P My thought is that if you are a mage char in PvM, then being close enough to monsters and getting hit is a bad move in the first place. U have a merc probably and/or minions so these ought to take the hits for you. Sorcs have energy shield/orb, necros bone armor/zoo, druids cyclone armor/animals, etc These days almost all mage chars could teleport so a spirit shield for fcr looks really juicy. The fact that it has bad block also supports the view that base dex/vita is the way to go. Once u decide to have block your choices for shields becomes very limited. No 20/20 monarch definitely, unless its a JMOD and we know how rare those are :P Most nasty attacks are unblockable like black souls bolts or MSLE sparks so high vita is also good (or absorb) Just sharing my thoughts
