Please add more precision to your question.

1. Are you talking about the socketing recipe or about the Larzuk quest reward ?

2. Are you talking about nonmagical ones or paladin shields of any kind ?

3. Your question is hard to read because you don't write complete sentences.

Instead of commenting on each of the points I made, better ask your question again, in full.

No offense meant, I'm just trying to give you advice about how you get the best answers instead of people guessing about what might be the answer or making comments about your posting style. I know, you didn't ask for advice regarding that, but as a mod I think I have the privilege to give them anyway.

I still don't know if you mean the recipe or the quest reward. Anyway, I will stop being so pedantic. :azn:

Nonmagical elite paladin shields will get 4 sockets from Larzuk while the recipe adds 1-4, randomly, with a 3 in 6 chance of getting 4 sockets and 1 in 6 for each of the lower numbers.

Exception: If it's a formerly low-quality one which has been fixed with the cube recipe, Larzuk will add 3 sockets and the recipe adds 1-3 sockets, with a 4 in 6 chance for 3 sockets. That's because the maximum of sockets also depends on the item level and the recipe to fix cracked items sets it to 1.

unless the item is a magic or unique, the socket quest will always give it the max number of sockets

Only 1 for rare and unique, 1 or 2 for magic (50% chance for each). Set will get 1 as well, but there's only 1 set pally shield: Griswold's Honor, which comes with 3os, so you can't add more socket to it.
