View Full Version : Freezing arrow zon viable with m'avina's?
Hi all.
Thinking of building a freezing arrow amazon using m'avina's set, iirc the set has +% to cold skill damage?
I feel like building this because i'm a bit bored of seeing nothing but faith using bowas.
Any opinions or suggestions?

My experience is that it's a safe, but slow going build.
Use Metalgrid as amulet and a Ravenfrost and a dual leech as rings, this helps with AR so you can leech some mana back. Stick a Shael in the bow.
The gloves have a partial set bonus of +20% to cold skills damage.
You can try strafe as backup skill, it works decent enough.

I've had a toy around with some ideas. It's a nice, as you said, safe setup. I feel it's one of the better, underused, sets.
Maxed FA, valk (because she has awesome life) And few points dumped into the passives. 1 pt in magic arrow seems to be nice enough for immunes. I feel it's a build that can only run in a 1 player game though. I have no idea how she'd hold up in 8 player baalruns. :jig:

In 8 player baal runs youwon't be able to kill much but the freezing effect is always nice.Just remember that FA sucks mana like no other, and you will need Insight on your merc or lots of mana leech to be able to use it effectivly (sp?).
It's nice to see that you are putting the Mavina set to use. I feel that it is not the most powerful set in the game, but it's good enough if you play alone.
Yeah, Mav's is perfectly acceptable Hell-Gear for a Frostmaiden. If you can't beat Hell in Mav's, you probably should practice more in Nightmare. :wink3:

Indeed. 23 mana per shot in fact (at level 30.) I would use an insight on merc as i've realised how damn useful that runeword is for extensive mana uses.
And thanks for the support! I think i'll start working on one soon. I've had the set diadem on a mule for a very long time, and it's pretty hard to find as i've never even seen one since.

i've created m'avina set zon this season (frostmaiden) and can say it's good fun but can't really hold its own in more than 4 player game, particularly in higher acts of hell, partly due to incredibly weak bow and partly because cold immunes are a big problem but unlike sorc, you can't just tele past them...
i was a bit disappointned in the set performance because i expected it to do at least as good as the other good sets (ik,trang, tals) but it turned out i was wrong
either way, it's a decent cow runner

Mana really shouldn't be too much of a concern with the right gear and enough leech/mana adding items/pierce.
I know the skill uses alot, but even with modest amounts of leech, and + to mana after each kill items, you should be OK. Make sure your pierce is up there though. You don't have the benefit of a Razortail, so pump pierce to max.
I rarely ever need pots running about 25% leech and +10 to mana after each kill through items.
I also don't use FA as my main attack either. Drop a few FA's then switch up to either MA/GA/MS or Strafe for finishing off the frozen bodies.
Hope this helps. . .
I actually made this exact build when my friend was having a hoot with his IK Barbarian. I don't even think I used a valk, silly me. It was actually fairly viable through hell, I stopped around act 4 hell after soloing all of the stuff before that. It's incredibly fun. I'd really love to make one using Ice. Freezing Arrow is the one of the sweetest skills in the game IMO.

I used Mavs before I upgraded to the Ice, CoH, Nightwings setup, and while it's not the best things for a Frostmaiden to use, it definitely did a decent enough job.
I have a Mavinazon on last ladder, while very fun, it was slow going. The bow is really the downfall of this set. Damage is quite low. You almost need to go with a glass cannon, one with mega points into dex and very little elsewhere to get any decent sort of damage. I also maxed strafe on mine and used it to refill the blue bulb, at higher levels. You need life leech from somewhere.
I havent had any experience with Mav's set so I cant really speak about that, however I will say that if you can find a way to invest into an Ice Bow, Im sure you will not regret it.
After making my Frostmaiden with Ice, I don't really want to look elsewhere for another bow, it's just that good.

You shouldn't ever use the magic arrow skill when you're using mavs set, the bow fires level 1 magic arrows as it's standard attack meaning there's no need to waste mana.

I just put titan's + spirit on switch last ladder, and 20 CS/LF. There weren't any immune problems. Though......, FA + LF together eats mana like crazy, that even an insight merc wasn't enough.
