Okay, I've read as many blizzard guides as I can and I'm still a little on the lost side. I only use permed items, so a lot of the guides on JSP are totally out of reach for me. Bryce's looked good except it requires items and I cannot and will not use.
So, I'm trying to come up with a good build and here's what I have so far:
Helm: Nightwings
Weapon: Death's Fathom
Shield: Spirit or SS
Belt: Arachnid's
Armor: Vipermagi
Boots: Eth treks
Gloves: Trangs
Rings: SoJ/BK
Ammy: Maras
Skills would be max Blizzard, and synergies. Max Block with SS, otherwise a Vita build.
I know 105 FCR is the ideal to hit, but I'm curious if it is 100% necessary vs. melee (when I take off my Spirit to use SS).
One option I was given by a friend is to use x2 FCR rings and a crafted Sorceress ammy with 10+ FCR, as well as Enigma, which would save a ton of str for the SS as well as the points spent getting teleport. Is this a better option?
For Charms I was looking at 9 cold lifers, with life/res Scs and 3 FHR/Res scs to get the 86 BP with spirit on.
Lastly, what kind of stash gear should I get? Tgods, wisp, hotspurs and a x4 Thul shield seems like the obvious, but are there other useful options?
Thanks in advance for any replies.
Eth treks or shadowdancers (<-- I <3 these boots on almost any max block caster..) or any good legit tri-res boots.
105 is not 100% necessary... I tried bryce's build almost exactly on d2pk (63 fcr and i believe 42 fhr is the bp) and it's plenty for vs melee and general vs all (pub games, 4v4s etc)
As for making up the 10 fcr lost by not using fletch, your friend was pretty dead on. A rare ring with fcr, stats, and high mana will improve in every way vs an soj with the exception of damage
Trangs would probably be best switched to frostburns and vipermagi to coh, though =/. The way I personally would gear a legit blizzer (this is my preference on 63/42 though, note >.>):
Nightwing
Fathom
Coh
Ber'd ss
Arach
Sorc ammy with 10 fcr and stats/res
2x fcr rings with life/mana/stats
frostburns
shadowdancers
1x fhr skiller
6x life skillers
torch/anni and rest 20/17s
SInce you're going legit (i assume no bmanas) you have to make up for a LOT of mana... so there frosties > trangs =/. Perhaps even "Sur" your nightwing instead of faceting it (imo tanking > a bit of damage).
That also puts you at 70 fcr exactly, so easily slip on a spirit for svs/necs etc ^.^

This is great, thanks v much. Whats your opinion on ES? I've always thought ES blizzers were too weak and sacraficed too much, but should I run base level ES anyway for a little extra tanking?

ES requires telekenisis maxed to be fully effective, but thats my opinion. Blizzard already has too many synergies to max out to throw in extra problems like having an effective ES.

But ES works beautifully if you use bmana's and such. To have a successful ES/Blizzer you need to be able to fund it.

Bmanas are lovely, yes, but they are also very zzzzzzz

I could also use wizgloves, I could easily get the duper perfect fathom that floats around, I could have 45 lifers and bmanas. I choose not to use unperms, besides the fact that I hate perming. Don't assume that because I choose not to use items I cannot get them.
Can you please enlighten me: What is a bmana? A bugged mana charm? I thought that kind of talk were a no-no here. And wizgloves.... Come on mate, donīt give heads up to hacks, ya filthy vermin!

Bmana = 15 life 70 mana sc. East-specific.
And they're not "hacks". And they exist whether you wanna recognize it or not; it's best to get over it and move on.
And btw I wrote my bit under the assumption that you were intending to go es ^^. Imo vita blizzers are weak. As long as you hit about 9k+ bliz you'll be fine.

Okay, I've been messing with setups a little, and so far I'm 100% sure on including the nightwing, fathom, SS (spirit switch), fcr ammy, and I have a nice pair of eth treks so I'll use those. Charms will be 2 fhr gcs and 1 sc to make the 48 bp, rest life/mana and cold lifers.
The thing I'm a little up in the air about is the gloves/rings. I currently have:
10fcr/18str/78mana/23lr
10fcr/9str/9dex/8mana/7all res
10fcr/11str/55mana/15fr
fcr rings available. With frosties I have +40% to my mana pool. I was thinking though, that sojs add 25% to mana. So would x2 sojs and magefists work better? The 10% mana isn't a big deal, but the 25% mana regeneration looks nice, doesnt this help es/blizz in long duels? It also features 2 more skill points than the other setup. In return, I lose out on some flexability with life or mana (the stat points) and some resists. Not sure which is the better option, would appreciate some imput.
Last option I considered would be to keep the frosties and the 1st fcr ring (basically perfect mods for me) and shoot for a 2/20fcr sorc ammy, then use a soj on the other ring slot.
Help!

Sorry to add on more technical info, but atm I'm looking at:
50% DR
75% Block
62 FCR Bp
48 FHR Bp
Blizzard is only 10k. This seems low (I see sorceresses with 14k Blizz pretty often), though I do have -245 enemy resists. I assume being a tank makes up for it though?
Also bothering me:
I have to spend 162 stat points.
This assumes:
For Str (target is a spirit or ss at 156 str)
20 Torch
20 Anni
18 Ring 1
14 Ring 2
x Ammy (assuming 0 atm)
20 CoH
15 Treks
10 Base
This means 39 Stat points spent in Str
For Dex (Max block target of 208ish)
20 Torch
20 Anni
20 NW
25 Base
This leaves 303 stat points to spend on Vita/Energy. Now, I'll have nice lifers (probobly 35+) and 15+ life scs. Between the +55 Vita on my gear (total 65, or 130 life) and my charms, I'll have around 1250 life with a lvl 14 BO. Is this good enough for es? Does all the rest go in Energy?
Happy, I built a es/blizz and I'm on west like you, so no bmana, etc. I also choose not to use unperms. Probably for many of the same reasons you do.
Anyway, here's how I built it:
3cold 20fcr 1soc circ (why couldn't it have gotten 2, really where's some luck when I actually need it?)
Self crafted +2 sorc 9fcr 19 res all (cept 60 cr) 75plr ammy
Dusk CoH
Fathom - facet 33%cd
Whistans- P Diamond
Spider
Frosties
2 x Soj
Waterwalks
4 x cold fhr gc's, rest lifers
10 x life/mana sc's
torch/anni
Now I chose to go the pre-buff route.
So get a 9es staff. After that you can switch lite skillers/circ/ammy or w/e.
I maxed :
Mastery
Blizz
Ice Blast
Telekinesis
rest in ice bolt
1pt chilling armour
1pt teleport
At lvl 89 I have 1.1klife 3k mana 71% block (i switched my gear selections at lvl 89 and am missing the dex from nw). With pre-buff I cast 88% es. I do 7.6-7.9k blizz with mastery of -245 cold res, hit 63fcr/48fhr bp's. I still haven't socketed the circlet.
I initially tried a fcr rings/ nw set-up, but I found that for the cost of 500 blizz dmg, that I could use 2 soj and the circlet to get my mana up from 2.4k to 3k. The nw was a 15% cd with perf facet as well.
Sapphires in the circ will net me even more mana. Or a shael, and I can use more lifer gc's. I'm looking into my options there.
I've only rarely dueled with it, since I've been on a character leveling spree lately. My wife will have our first child soon, and I'm trying to get all the builds I want to play ready, so I can just duel in the very limited time I'll soon have. Still, it was fairly effective in pubs and I'm sure someone with your dueling skills could make this work quite nicely.
I hope this helps. Cheers
PS : another reason why I haven't used it so much is because pre-buff is annoying, but at least es does last a long time, so if you don't die, its not a big hassle. Unfortunately Lag>me =/
EDIT : iirc, after points to str for gear, dex for block, I put about 70 to vita and rest in mana.
I don't think you can have a 50dr max block es sorc w/o using bmana's to bump up your mana. There just aren't enough stat pts left over
EDIT2 : mana pots help. Its very bm imo, but from what I've seen in pubs, most (or at least a lot) of es sorcs use them:lipsrsealed:
