Seeing how I tend to find a lot of rings these days (unique and rare) I got bored of the constant id and then throw away. None of my rings seem to roll with good mods :undecided: And im sure a lot of you know the feeling.
That is why I decided this morning to store all my rare rings on a mule untill I have a whole char filled with rare rings from hell. My idea was then to visit cain and hopefully have him go bless me on one or more of those rings :rolleyes:
All the rings are collected from the "normal" mf areas Andy, Meph, travi, fireeye, rikashu, etc on hell mode.
Of course I'll post my findings here for those of you who should be interested.
But there is one thing I would like to hear some oppinions on:
Should I just aim for the full inventory mule of 40 mixed rings OR should I make this a "semi" project and fill 4 mule inventories, one for each skin of the four rings?

sounds intresting.. i think you could try this with just one mule (mixed rings/1mule). and if you feel like it you could do the sorting by skin.
with skin sorted rings would be intresting to see what kind of skin tends to have 'better mods' than others. :scratch:

Yea indeed I do but the idea is just to hope for at least one good ring while looking through those 40 newly id'ed rings.

you can also fill out the mules cube. if i recall right cain will also id all the stuff in your cube (even if its in the stash).
im at school rotting.. few more hours to get home to be busy agein :laugh:

Cain won't touch things in your stash, but will ID things in your cube even if your cube is in your stash.
Inventory => ID'd
Cube in Inv => ID'd
Cube in Stash => ID'd
Stash => not ID'd
I know this because I save my unId'd uniques and set items there. :)
Okay I'll make my first update now. I've decided to go with 5 mules filled with rings, one for each skin.
Update #1:
Aye it seems like the Gods have blessed me and my mfing characters. For the first segment of this project I managed to do about 40 mf runs all together and found amazingly 16 rings before the higher forces smited me with the usual realm down.
Still they showed me a sign that they favored me in my newly started quest by dropping a few nice rare items along the way too:

I always like to save items on LoD before I identify an lot at once, but classic I mainly find items in CS because I don't have as much time to play anymore so I don't MF much (and I already have more items than I need)

Yes magnet I have indeed. But I dont recall having a single gambling session where I could lean back and go through 200 potential godly rare rings. When I gamble say e.g. 3 mil gold I usually end up with maybe 5-8 rare rings. None of which are any usefull. But it should be REALLY unfortunately if there isnt just 1 semi godly among those 200 I am in the process of collecting. Hope you get what I mean.

Think it might be time for update #2
During this week my two characters (the blizzard sorc and the ww-barb) have been on a constant search for rare rings. They have went through the many outposts throughout the acts and with great success. These two "pickpockets" have not only gathered up many rings for the stash but also managed to come up with some nice additional items as well.
One thing I have noticed during my quest is that the best mods seem to spawn on the worst (http://img262.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshot1471yu.jpg) items :undecided:
I also discovered some nice popping skills of my barb when he roared these armors off a dead monster:

Actually I am mfing all kinds of places. But with my sorc its mostly andy and meph. When she seems to be running cold I usually switch to my barb and go rikashu, threehead, that guy in inner closter, fireeye, and stormtree. (sometimes also the battlemaid sabrina)
Both chars have their disadvantages it seems. While andy might drop most of the rings it seems pretty hard for her to keep dropping them unless I am raiding in full player games. Those are sometimes hard to come by because of the hours I spend online sometimes are different that to most other people. That is also when I switch chars.
But I'll take it that summoner has a great chance of dropping rings too since you mention him? Hmm maybe I should start to run him in between doing andy and meph?
(notice that all rings will be collected on hell difficulty)

This isn't an accident- higher level affixes can occur on lower qlvl items from the same monster. This is interesting and has been discussed before, see for example in this thread. (http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=440030)
The point is that the affix level ("Priests" +2 pal skills, alvl 65, for example) and the qlvl (qlvl 15 for a kite shield, qlvl 48 for a grim shield, for example) are involved to determine if a monster can drop a particular item with a particular affix. So for example a champion flayer can drop a +2 pally kite but not a +2 pally grim shield.
In other words, it's not just your imagination that you see the best mods often on the worst items!
In LoD, the possibility of upgrading rares throws this inherent balance out of whack, but there everyone uses the uniques and runeword items instead of rares anyway...

Right, and right. However, Summoner, without MH is time consuming and I'm assuming that everyone here is not using MH... so he may not be a good option.

Well time isn't that big a factor to me. Andy seem to drop me a rare ring in 1/4 of the full player games I join, so really the main reason why I do meph too is to avoid R/D + he can drop some nice items as well. So if the chances of summoner dropping a ring are reasonable high I might give this a try.
Oh and also I don't find andy that quick to get to even with the path finding methods posted here by Quientus due to the method only applying to the lvl 2 and not also lvl 3.

He has LoD installed, which gives the game a higher resolution. They didn't scale anything up to the higher resolution though, so instead it just puts a border around everything. I assume that's what you're referring to?
@ Fledgeling I'm not rich either :undecided: . Thats also part of the reason why I have given up on most of my "highlevel" chars and started to focus a lot more on LLD. Basicly the only times I use my other chars are when I need to equip a new LLD and of course this project Im doing.
ps. If you feel like Andy is taking for ever to get to, I can HIGHLY recommend Quientus pathfinding guide for Andy as well as meph and other popular places.
@ Bruckmack Yes I used to be a dedicated LOD newbie like the rest who thought of myself as UBER because of my enigma and many HR's. Needless to say that all changed one day when I started seing total newcomers wearing gear better than mine due to excessive duping. Thats when I discovered the "classic/original" game and much to my surprise they didn't have near as many problems. I guess that about covers my gaming history of d2 as short as possible :scratch:

would have just needed your magic touch of creating game (needing to mule :rolleyes: ). not in a rush tho..
and yeah in lod you know what to hunt and the odds for those valuable uniqs are slim to none.. basicly its rune words>uniqs>rares/magic :undecided: in d2c you know what to look for in particular item, but you can never know when its gona drop :grin:

Think now would be a good time for an update on my project.
Due to being busy doing my major assignment for my final year I haven't had too much time online. However I decided to gather some more fancy jewellery from other bosses e.g. Diablo and other monsters in cs. This caused my blizzer to gain 5 levels from 82 - 87 :azn:
Also a funny thing happened when I visited Mephisto the other day. When I got to him he "proposed" to me :shocked: The thing is that I'm actually thinking about saying yes due to his outstanding taste in wedding rings... I mean, the stone (http://img265.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshot150ls3.jpg) in that ring was simply outstanding :wink3:
Besided from that nothing much has happended over the last few weeks. Oh I forgot... I did find a nice suit for one of my characters:

Yea I get your point. But if you (or anyone else for that reason) could tell me some criterias for good stat rings/bvb rings it would make it a tad easier for me. I know that I will make a section only with rings with fcr mod, but the rest is a bit unclear to me.

In the mean time, a good BvB ring would have something like 8-9 Min Dmg 1-4 Max Dmg 1xx AR 1x Str and/or 1x Dex, and if you're lucky enough, 2x+ Life. I've only owned two of them since I've been on Ladder. Here they are so you have an idea of what to look for:

i'dd say that you should just state the number of crap rings and then just maybe screen shot the rings that are worth it. about the sorting for example

i think there will be no best way to sort them out cause ar/dmg ring might spawn with useless fcr mod.. up to you how to deal with it :shocked:
