View Full Version : Planning out my PvM bowazon. Help with skill distribution?

So far my bowazon is level 30 and I've used very few skill points, as I'm not quite sure where to put them. I've read all the debate over multi vs. strafe, and I've decided to go with multi. I'm not much interested in continuing the debate in this thread since I think it has been covered thoroughly in the sticky.

I'm the sort of player who tends to make a new character after my last is in it's mid-80's, so I'll plan my skills with that in mind. Like I've said, I chose multi, but I'm not sure that it needs to be maxed. Is there any point in doing so? Guided arrow should be maxed I think. Critical strike tops out at 68%? Sounds worth maxing to me. Also, I prefer to play solo when I can. People tell me I should max Valkyrie to be my tank. Is that worthwhile?

So far we have:
Multi: 10
Guided: 20
Critical Strike: 20
Valkyrie: 20
Unused: 10+ (allowing for intermediate level 1 skills, compensated for with the 12 quest-related skill grants).

What else? Should I max multi too? I'm one of those "all or nothing" skill people, when I can afford to be. Anything else worth putting points into? Have I made any mistakes in my planning (excepting the arguable multi vs strafe subject)?

Oh, it might also be relevant to say I'm planning on using the Buriza. I'm poor. If anyone wants to trade me a better bow, there are plenty of perfect gems in it for you.

I don't see the point in maxing guided arrow. If you want a bosskiller, I don't think 1) that ga is that good these days. 2) that with 20 points, charged strike will be more powerful, or jab with crushing blow. Though be careful to have the survivability needed to survive this technique.

The maxing of critical strike depends on you gear, if you have a lot of deadly strike. It is useless, if not. go ahead and max it.

the maxing of multi depends on you playing stile and the places you want to clear. In narrow corridors, a maxed out multi is useless. With +skills you will shout about 25 arrows. Never will there be 25 monsters to hit. In the cow level things are the other was around, the more the better. there are a lot of cows.

max valk if you want, I do. and if you don't have itd, or a lot of extra attack rating, penetrate is suggested. On the other hand, if you go toe to toe with the bosses, some extra points in dodge/evade is perhaps welcome. As are point in decoy if you want a super valk and extra tank.

I'm not going to use any spear skills. Just because.

If buriza then yes, multi is the right choise if you ask me, however you'll need to either have a high enchant (demon limb/obidience/lava goat) to make up for your lack in penetrate, or just max it. Maxing guided on a pvm zon aint a good idea in most cases, 1 point will do fine.

Multi should be 10-16 after skills if you ask me, I like lvl 12 myself. Not to much since you're just wasting mana for arrows that don't hit anything, and not to few since you'd hit too few each volley.

Critical will give deminishing returns, lvl 16 after +skills is what's reccomended iirc. Those 4 lvls after that probably just gives you 1%.

You don't have to max valk, but try reaching lvl 17 or whatever level you feel comfortable with, she's your shield, you chiose how much she should be able to tank without recasting.

In the multi vs strage thread I didn't think anyone made a good case for only using one or the other. It sure sounded like the "multi is best" people simply weren't skilled with strafe and vice versa.
Personally I"ve maxed strafe, shoot over a dozen arrows with multi and have magic arrow on left click. And use guided occasionally.
Learn to use them all well.

Personally I say keep MA on left, at least enough in strafe for the ten arrows, and enough points in muliti to get at least a dozen arrows with plus skills. I also like maxing Valk. Lvl 17 is a good cut off point but a Lvl 27 does get all the best gear, not just the best weapon.

AFAIK that next delay really only is if you are shooting at one monster. In which case I generally switch to magic arrow.

I find +skills for passive to do more for me than for +skills for bows.
You will want at least one point in all the political skills for your zon.
