View Full Version : MF/GF Barbs: Your preferance?
Well its not about the barbs as an character. its about how does your barb do it!?
1) vit/str? there are so many differend paths to go.
2) mf? where? yeah ROF/flayer/travi but where do you go 1st? how do you run in flayer? anything else? we all have our preferences :prop:
3) martel/snap? lets not debate, just state it :girly:
4) gear exept angelic/wep? agein we all have our preferences!
5) skills? no need to say more..
6) lvl ofc ...
7) mf amount/GF amount?
so im going to start it off with my currently under construction mf barb:
1) 170str/base vit (i think i'll go for 250/rest)
2) gona do travi, rof/flayer atleast for the begining (havent decided yet if rof or flayer would come 1st). @ flayer i run up from the WP and go high as the flayer gets, kill that unq guard at lower kurast gate and start going down (forms an circle from wp to up/down/up agein to wp)
3) martel 248 with +1 skill and 5% mana leech
4) angelic/sigons gloves,boots,belt/3 pt great helm (need to find cooler looking helm, aka crown)
5) ww/mace mastery/bo maxed - zerk (i hate to leave something unkilled while hunting) got 1 pt so did inc r/w speed - rest goes to nat res and find item
6) at the monet 60 (rdyish to enter hell)
7) my MF is 222 (dont have 2 gulls yet)/GF is about close to 0
reason why i do this is to make an threat that could help me and other starting barbs out there. thats why im asking for ppl to sign in and help fellow players (yes i know search, but not all does) while doing it (also it means post count +1 :rolleyes: )

1)i'm going for 225/275, if i ever bother to lvl more rest to vita
2)cathedral, fireeye, (trav), lower kurast to stormtree and down flyering one side of the river until gmrash/sforest, then return the other side
3)martel because of better leech, 240 ftb
4)tarn for skills, broc/dual leech, rare belt, gblins, i hork with bo sticks until i lvl more
5)aiming for 13/15 fi, 11 nr, then i think about more inc r/w
6)85-87
i do miss ll and fire dmg on mart (hit recovery animation, u get hit much less often from my experience)
from my experience start hell with 40+ char, u have v nice lvling in act1
i usually end up with +/- 45 at act2, which makes up for plenty of fun :laugh:

Either Martel MF with angelics, rare leech gloves, rare boots, 3soc helm, and a rare belt or goldwrap, and pumped strength, OR Exec GF with Chancies, Gskin, Goldwrap, Tarn, and the rest rare. The gold finder also has a good amount of MF, and the stats are usually the flat 170/110, though my current ladder barb has 15dex from the amulet (2barb 1max 15dex pris stack fr 60ish goldfind)
i forgot this :scratch: (maybe something else but havent realized yet)
8) how do you hork? everything or just boss packs?
1) 179str rest into vita. If i dont do this i just cant stay alive...
2) I only do travi runs. Its the best place for gold, and with gold you can buy quite some nice items.
3) Martel 262 max dmg.
4) Chancies, Goldwrap and Gskin. Still need to use resist helm/boots to stay alive. Duel leech ring for the required mana/life leech.
5) Max bo/ww/mm. For the rest, 11 into Find Item, 1 inc. speed, rest into nat. resistance.
6) Currently level 83.
7) Not to much. 416% gf and 59% mf.

I went for 169 str(like pied prolly meant to type aswell) and the rest vit. same reason as Pied, I need that health to stay alive.

I either go to Fire-Eye first or travi first, I do try to go to both in each game, followed by Bone Ash, The guards of the tree in Dark Wood, Rakanishu, then Treehead(between Flayer Jungle and lower Kurast), then I bugger off to find another game. If one of the council is PI, I often waste a lot of time killing him aswell.

48 Tarn, +2 barb amu with 67 GF, GS, 40Chancies, 80Goldwrap, 30frw, res, 80GF boots, rings with 40GF and ar, res, min, max, no stats.
5) skills? no need to say more..
Max Itemfind, max WW, max mastery, max BO, some(5-ish I think) nat res, one frw.
6) lvl ofc ...
81 atm and aiming for as high as possible.

Some 682 GF it seems and some 118MF, though I pop with 2 gulls.

I usually hork just about everything nearby. Since it takes me all of 4 seconds to switch to the gulls, that time would be wasted if I don't hork everything. I try to start off with a non-boss as I often do not get a pop for the first hork of a series.
Bring mana in your belt, with these lags, you could be horking away all of your mana on a single corpse.

I just go to Arcane Sanctuary and then up the stairs and trough that blue portal. You will find Fire Eye either in that room, the one to the top-left of that room(trough that door which is usually closed when you get there) or to the top-right of that second room(3 open arches).
Fire Eye usually drops bollox, but makes it look good, disguising it as exceptional rares, with useless mods. But every now and then he will drop something worth-while. Offcourse he usually drops things that sell quite well, so for my GF barb that's what I need. :)

Strength adds to damage, more for maces than for swords and axes. If you have 100 str, you get a 110% bonus to damage for a mace (versus 100% for sword, ax, etc.) It's like dexterity for bows.
It may sound like a lot, but remember that that is added to the ED you have from other sources, so it helps, but not a fantastic amount. Of course, more damage = more life and mana leech, so even a small increase is useful.
overall, I've been pretty happy with the following setup. 250str/250 vit give or take. I'm now lvl 88.
I have maxed mace mastery, WW, bo.
probably 10 or so in nat rez for if/when I choose to tag along in cs runs to pop items
about 12 or 13 in item find. a couple in frw - when wearing bo sticks, and other +skill items it makes it easier to keep up with the clagging dins as the pack moves from one seal boss to another. it also helps when I'm forced to leap in if sora's are few and far between. rest are scattered around, I forget where exactly.
dual leach, dual 2x rez gloves with 12MF. very high dual rez boots, with frw, and 2x mf
angellic armor, ring, ammy
belt is fhr, tri rez, 4 rows, with 1-5 cold dmg. I'd likely prefer a plus life one over the cold dmg, but nothing spectactular that is better has come along
helm is a tri p topazed superior grande crown - 13x def - haven't seen one higher.
mart currently is a +1, 268 dmg with 6 life leach. oh - the other ring, 2x/3x dual rez (forget the actual elements) with AR, min dmg, and mana leach.
I keep stowed, a tarn, blue +2 ammy, and two +2 green mace bo sticks (why green maces? they're stylish) along with a silk, and gskin (both nearly perfect) in the stash. (and one gull currently in cube)
I prefer to mf travincal, instead of gf - I usually get better drops that way, and once I sell all the armors, I still have more gold than I konw what to do with in short order.
since my favorite mf spots are pretty routinely known these days, as I run into people mf-ing the same spots I may as well list them.
boneash - act1
fireeye - act2
travincal - act3 - then hit the wp to whichever kurast is closer to flayer jungle to get stormtree or w/e his name is.
by then, if the game hasn't been raided, or looking like it will, I'll continue on to find the flayer dungeon - and do enduku in lvl 3. I have had some truly very nice drops and urks from him.
finally, if there are still people struggling in the game, and/or if andy/mephy is still alive, I may try to run either or both spots.
I usually do not do raki, or treewood, unless I'm also juv hunting - however, I have found some very nice stuff off of raki in nm whilst rushing people.

i'd stay the hell out of travincal though. even well built, well geared, and well steered trav running barbs die from time to time...the council can be a grumpy bunch.

Yes, beware of the fire enchanted bug. Happens more often in Travi.
Also beware of Gleb Flamefist if he's LE. His sparks will also carry his fire damage. Avoid Stygian dolls, or anything that has CE upon death.
Other then that, IM only happens in CS, so don't venture in CS unless you really, really have to. :)

Built like a mace barb (250/250), 12 in IFind and nat rez
First Kill:
MF: 153%
GF: 232%
Popping with 2 gulls and chancies:
MF: 388%
GF: 423%
I need to upgrade to a mart, I just haven't yet.
CS does not mean anti-barb, there are several things you can do to make sure you can solo a cs run with your ww barb. First to let you know my barb is not fantastic it is using angelics, 3 topaz helm, goldwrap, mf/resi boots, average martel with Life leach, hand of broc duel leach gloves. I leap to the opening of the cs from river and instantly cast a TP. Then I clear my way in by first letting the casters cast all of their curses if iron maiden is not on my I take them out ASAP once they are gone you are free to Whirl Wind endlessly, I do this until I get to the middle and cast another TP. You may die just by sheer bad luck factor alone, but as long as you stick to your guns and use the bait tactic you can make it. I am now 23 CS runs and counting with my barb without dying. Keep in mind I have over 200mf and I get extra drops since i have Find Item at a lvl 15, I have found many nice things such as a 159, 19 stregth 100 ar Battle hammer, and some rather nice helms and armors.
