How odd, I'm currentlt getting the message "can not connect to battle.net" immediately upon clicking the icon, it doesn't even pause to think or scan for connection. Usually this coul dbe solved by a reboot but it was still there when I tried it now, will try again later...
You seems to be having a completely different problem but I hop eit works out fo ryou aswell.
Or did the servers implode yet?
Jakotaco: If it's a problem that doesn't last very long... I believe it's something similar to what people refer to as a "Realm Down". Caused by similar reasons (joining/ exiting too quickly, switching accounts or characters too fast...), rather than something wrong with your computer/disc/game.
OP: Internet connection issues? Firewall? Lag? It happens to me whenever my internet gets really slow (wireless).
A corrupted patch can also cause this. I reinstalled the game yesterday, and I kept getting this msg after the Patch. I ran the blizzard updater manually and it fixed the patch and I was able to login. If it is persistent, you might want to try reinstalling the patch.

Thanks
I'm having the same problem, I bought this game a couple days ago, for the soul purpose of playing online. But I can't get into the game or even create an account because of the disconnection error, I re-installed last night. I'd rather update though the game than the site, because even with the proper version downloaded manually, when trying to make an account I get kicked out do to connection, and mine is fine, as well as my port-forwarding. Help would be appreciated, because at the moment, haven't gotten my money's worth.

This symptoms may be caused by many things, as you have reinstalled and still has the problem I would first make sure your firewall and router is configured correctly. Diablo2 requires certain ports to be opened which they may not be if your firewall is restrictive.
However these are the exact symptoms of an ip ban aswell. Do you own any other Blizzard games? (Diablo 1, Warcraft II, Warcraft III or Starcraft) Have you or anyone else on your ip done anything that might have caused an ip ban? Did you buy a new copy or a second hand one? Are you 100% sure the cd-key used is a valid one?
Is your router's ip static or dynamic? if dynamic you might try shutting it off for a while and restart it to get a new ip.
I port-forwarded and have a static IP so that shouldn't be a problem, I own Warcraft III but I don't play that game enough to be IP banned for anything. The CD Key is correct, I don't see how it couldn't be, just bought this game. Didn't think it would be this hard to play this game...

~Sparththe fun is just starting. wait until you get online and have to deal with dupers, hackers, thiefs, spammers etc. AND if this doesnt get to you eventualy? you then have lag, ftj, c/i AND r/d
Yeah, but I at least want a chance to experience said hardships.

Its incredibly dumb this system. rigght now it says i have no internet connection when i try to get into bnet. well look im on the internet aren't i?
I think battlenet and blizzard are just letting us down by sucking so much with their account configurations and stuff. same crap with being timed out, ill not play for 30 hours, go back on and i have a chr thats timed out.
Freakish, just wait for d3, hinted on diabloii's main page. if things aren't cleared im givin up on battlenet.
