Max Block ?

Quit WoW yet again so I'm back playin' D2...

Never made a Pally before, so I'm gonna give it a whirl.

Question is how much Dex would I need for Max Block, guesstimation works is fine... Just want to get an idea of how to spend my points.

Was gonna try 1pt smiter, or whatever max fantascism/zeal build is called. Was planning to put 20 in Holy Shield.

No clue what merc to use either... HF or Might?

So anyone with any idea a general number I can sorta base off to put in dex would be great, and also min. str i might need for Pally gear.
I'm assuming nothing to expensive since this new toon got no mules or MFs sinec they expired.

Here's the formula for blocking:

Total Blocking = [(Blocking * (Dexterity - 15)) / (Character Level * 2)]

Blocking = chance to block indicated by shield

You pretty much need to add 2 points to dex each level. Naturally take a shield that has a good rate to start with. The maximum is 75%.

Hover your mouse over your Defense score on the character screen to check out you block %. Make sure you have Holy Shield activated when you do this.

As for base strength/dex... depends on what items you have. I have a bucketload of +stats charms (in anticipation of better equipment), so I've managed to keep them at 75 each, though don't be ashamed to pump them up as high as you need (over 100 would be normal).

One more question... I checked on a calc. what 20pts in HolyShield would give blocking and it says 35%.

Does that mean 35% of what you have, or 35% of ur shield's block % plus from dex?

Or does that mean 35% + shield % + dex... I'm assuming thats not right.

Err... Basically I have no clue.

It about 136 DEX (more or less depend on what shield you use) at lvl 90

Use the formula Ed from Russia provided you.
So in this situation your blocking will equal block from shield plus HS and you fill in your dex and character values.

It depends a lot on the shield.

Let's assume you get +5 to all skills. With L25 HS (+36% blocking) and a HoZ (52% blocking and +30% bonus), you have 118% base blocking, so for 75% blocking at L99 it's like this:

118*(Dex-15)/(2*99) = 75 ==> Dex = 15 + 75*2*99/118 = 141 (round up here)

which is just 5 more than you need to wear a phase blade.

An Exile vortex shield has 51% base blocking (it doesn't get a blocking bonus, just fbr), so you need 15 + 75*2*99/87 = 186 dex.
