So I have this friend who basicly has one fully loaded char, his barb. He loves this lvl 89 barb.

When his lacquered plate fort casts chilling armor, he's just under 30k def. Don't know what's so great about going over 30k def, but he asked me what he could do to improve his def. I suggested he up his arreat. A nice arreat, socketed with ber.

Now... how was I supposed to know that he wouldn't have enough str to wear upped arreat, and he needed that str bonus from arreat to equip ss which allowed him to wear rends etc.

I think he does have another arreat lying around. If he doesn't, I'd give him one. But he said "OMG@#$%^!" left the game and hasn't talked to me since.

Sort of an awkward situation I'd like to share with the forum.

It was his own fault, not yours. If he doesn't realize that, you should ask yourself whether he truely is/was a friend.

the problem was you went into your friends "zone", he trusted you in this very sensitive area of his life. Just let him cool down, and never offer to help him again.

Let's see: if he plays PvM, then he has a serious numbers complex. Tell him to read a few books for a change instead of doing maths.

If he plays PvP, then tell him to remake his char if he fails to realize that upgrading an already made character with items that have different requirements will cause it to come crumbling down. And again, he has a number complex. Defense has huge diminishing returns, not worth getting it to such a high level, since as long as you have as high defense as your opponent has AR, their chance to hit is only 12.5% after blocking. Getting it up to say, a 10k difference won't matter too much. Actually, 20k defense versus 30k defense, with an opponent of your own level and 20k AR, the difference of CtH is mere 2.5%.
