I'm completely new to barbs.

Just want to get some opinions on PvEing with barb.
I'm not playing on Bnet, so I will have pretty sub-par gear.

Right now my plan is:
20 Frenzy
1 Berserker
1 Leap (I always see people mention 1 leap attack.. do you really need to get leap attack? or is leap fine if you're just using it to get across obstacles)
20 Taunt
1 Warcry
20 Battle Orders
1 Battle Command
1 Find potion
1 Find item
1 Stam
1 Speed
1 Ironskin
1 Resist

I don't know what to do with the rest.. by the time I get there I might actually have a decent weapon that I can put points into mastery for.

My plan is to use taunt carefully to seperate groups of mobs and take them on a few at a time. If I get swarmed, I howl and get right back to taunting one. I plan to have quite a bit of life leech and use tons of potions. I'll also have a big slow 2h weapon for use with berserker against phys immunes.

Either way I have virtually no idea how to build a barb's stats.
I had planned on staying away from dex and using mostly 1h axes or maces.
I had also planned on putting only about 160 in str, and the rest in vit.

Does that sound like a pretty good solo strategy?

If not, and you have some suggestions about the easiest way to build a solo barb (untwinked), I would LOVE to hear them.

Thanks.

Sorry, but what is "E" as in PvE?

Whoops.. I'm using world of warcraft terminology I guess.

PvE is player versus environment.

I guess the correct diablo 2 terminology would be PvM?

Sorry, I've never touched Warcraft, not trying to be rude or anything. It just caught my eye and so I was wondering! But really, you can have BvB fights, DvD, SvS, TvT and what not, so I just thought that out of my noobness I didn't know what it meant.

About your layout, perhaps consider a weapon mastery later on, if you find a good weapon. Also, I think your strategy with stats sounds good. You don't need dex if you don't have a shield. (Dex gives higher chance of blocking).

I think that the biggest difference between leap and leap attack is, that you can jump much further with leap attack, if I remember correctly.

Another good thing to keep in mind are the low-end rune words. You'll probably find a couple of the lower runes along the way. Many of them form combinations that you should be able to put together. They'll probably be better than just the occational good blue magical item you'll find. Steel (TirEl) comes to my mind, but there are many.

Apart from this, there are really no shortcuts when playing untwinked, so good luck. If you have persistence and patience, I'm sure you can pull it off.
