how Critical is Max BLock?

this i my first barb and i can afford what ever i need but the barb i made now (lvl 80) only has base dex (83 w/items)

and i own most duel games, exept barbs that have basically the same gear as me so im think it might be the max block(i use ss)? so ya i though i could get away with just dumping it all into vita because i have max Dr.

So you don't have MAx block? Why you have shield then? Reason why people use ss, is that you can block with it.

How much block do you have then? In my opinion, max block isn't crucial, but at least some block could make sense if you have a shield...
74% is pretty much the same as 75%. Hey, even 70% is almost the same... It doesn't make that much of a difference actually.

Well, think about it. (statistically)
Out of 100 hits, you will block 72.
Out of 100 hits, maxblock would make it 75.

How many hits do you have in an average duel? 10? 20? Now do the same maths again. The difference is near to none.

Since you said this was your first ever barb, I do think it might have something to do with tactics/playing style. Gear isn't everything, a skilled player would probably beat a "newcomer" even with far worse gear 9 out of 10 duels.

@ LorveN: if you want to do the math, you need to count how many points you spare by not putting a lot in dex to get max block. And give those extra to life. That way you can do a comparision between based on the average damage the two ideas and see what it the best one.

Lets see...
chance to block = 30%. Clvl = 60.
Total Blocking = [(Blocking * (Dexterity - 15)) / (Character Level * 2)] = Total Blocking = [(30* (Dexterity - 15)) / (120)] = 1/4*Dexterity - 15*1/4.
So for every percentage less total blocking, you can have four points in live, giving 16 extra live, without BO. And you will take one percentage more damage. This means that it is only better to chose for this when one percentage of the average damage is less then 16. Meaning that the total damage has to be less then 1600.

So I'd say you are right about it, strangely. So why does everyone goes for high block. I must have miscalculated somewhere.

Well, versus attacks that do extreme damage in one hit, you more than anything want it to never apply. Every point of block could from time to time be worth more than thousands of life.

Though, my point is that the hysteria like "omg, I got 74%block, need to put up dex charms" is overrated.

Are you looking at the shield? Because you should look at your defense rating -> put your mouse pointer over there and your real block % will show up. This is not always the same as the block% on your shield...

I have found I like to go base dex and just dual wield. If I need to block I strap on an Eld'd Whinstan's and 2 nice Raven Frosts. This gives best of both worlds.

Mmm, wanna explain me how you plan to get 50% PDR and 152 Dexterity? The maximum I can figure is 150 with EBotdZ. And that's with Arreat, meaning at most 31% DR.

you could eld ur ss giving 7% more blocking

He said he has total 83 dexterity. You will need about 186 dexterity for maximum blocking on lvl 90, so how could he possibly have anymore than 15-30% blocking?

There is also a crafted amulet that adds up to 10% more blocking. You could start cubing and I'm sure you will get some incredible mods after 10 or 20 tries.

For more DR%, use a Vampgaze, Shaftstop, or Leviathan. You really won't need Fortitude BvB, since majority of damage in elite BvB is an Open Wounds contest. And, I would only use Enigma any other time.
