Weapon Help for a pre-IK Barb

Hi all. I've got the full IK set on a Lvl 85 barb, but I had messed the build up due to putting too much into Dex and not enough into Vitality (and I also maxed out Sword Mastery which left me several weapon options but it was a waste of points), so I've started a new barb using only base Dex as recommended. The only problem I'm having is finding a good weapon to get me through some of the tougher guys like Baal. I'm Lvl 34 now and seem to have pretty limited choices. I have Mace Mastery maxed at 20, but it seems my Dex is too low to use some of the better flails that have good speed, and the mauls are very slow in speed.

I guess one option would be to socket a maul and use a Shael in it, but are there any other good suggestions on weapons until I can wear the whole IK set? Thanks for any help.

Just offer a lem or pul for a Steeldriver maul (shael and upgrade it to martel too). That thing is almost as good as an IK maul and can get you to hell baal on a breeze.

Thanks! I've been playing Diablo since it first came out but never played online till a few months ago--didn't realize what I was missing. Also, I just found this forum a few weeks ago, and man, it's a great resource! Thanks again.

my recomendation falls to a bloodtree stump as they are overlooked folowed by a windhammer in some cases for cb and nice attack speed

Dual-wielding Aldur's Maces got my IK barb up to level 76. It's available from level 42, and can last you till 76 easily.

Be sure to put a Shael in each of them to get them to the fastest WW speed.

You can throw in Aldur's Boots at level 45 for +15 Str and Dex, as well as a HUGE +150% AR. But that means giving up IK Boots, and all the 4-piece Set bonuses (Helm, Gloves, Belt, Boots).

Bloodtree Stump is very slow... A Shael gets it from 12 to 8 frame WW... which is stilll sloooooow. A Shael'd Ribcracker will beat it outright, even if not upgraded.

Windhammer requires level 68, which is a long wait for a needy Barb.

I agree! On West people probably give these away for free or at most cost 3-5 p.gems? The good part is that after you've upgraded it, the Steeldriver martel could be muled over to future projects like shape shifting druids, etc
^^ For really low budget ideas , that, set winged helm and rattlecage gothic plate actually sounds really nasty for nightmare mode :P Maybe with IK boots or Aldurs and a couple of echos on switch life should be rather high too ^^
Oh ya Ribcracker is another awesome choice!
