As of 7:20 pm, and perhaps 15min to an hour before, the ladder has been resetting on USWest, presumably East too, I am still asking around and logging in. Date: Dec. 24th
Edit: ok, its NOT yet resetting on USEast. And you can join ladder games on west and cannot enter nonladder games with the current ladder chars. If you are on the Ladder listing, or were to be exact, you can jump up higher on the list if you enter games. My necro is #1 now! He was #2 necro yesterday. I hope they fix this whatever it is.
maybe or maybe not, hehe~

Ladder is not resetting unless posted otherwise on www.battle.net or www.blizzard.com
Thank you, Drunk. I hope it isn't. But I'll leave this thread until mornming to see what happens. Blizz shouldn't even be in the office on Christmas Eve and day.

Ok, ur right, Mr. SmaryPants. Apparently they are just purging the deleted, banned players, or accepting only currently active players who actually enter games. So the ladder is being reconfigured, but the ladder "realm" is NOT being reset.
There is a lvl 1 who is #7 on one of the HC ladders on USWest right now, lol!

Most of those ppl who are being deleted from the ladder now, in effect by not signing on into a game, were not banned for maphack or hacks. They earned their right to be on the ladder for the past 18 months. Some of them had keyloggers get them banned or deleted, or they just stopped playing. They may still have active chars, but choose to not enter a game. Some might be dead HC chars that cannot enter any game. Should that mean they should be deleted from the ladder??
It all could still be a glitch, limited to USWest, or some hacker deleted the ladder at Blizzard. For some of you oldies, about 4 years ago the LoD top of the ladder was overtaken by a bunch of chars with similar names, it was amusing and was a feature on the front page of this website. I never did find out how all that turned out...

:P
I wonder why Blizzard would be doing all this stuff on Christmas Eve. Perhaps it's a little Christmas present of some sort for anyone to get onto the ladder boards or something. I'm shooting ideas out of my *** here.

About time, it'd be nice to see bans knock people off the ladder too.
edit: nice my west sorc is at 276/60 right now with hardly any work to get the level.

Thats what I thought ElDrunko, but why only USWest? and alot of it just doesnt make sense. I think Dacar is right, Blizzard wouldnt do anything important on a day off, typically they do resets at about 2-3 pm PST in California, when they are at work, on a workday. Just doesnt make sense....
Maybe they were testing something and hit a button accidentally ---> became real world. And they might fix it tomorrow after their coffee break. Some big companies have their entire programs and database duplicated in a test world partition. If they are going to patch and reset, they are going to test it first on that system....
The ladders in europe got cleaned up of all non playing characters a while back, must be just a database problem or deliberate way of encouraging those that are left.
My guess is that the database crashed.

Indeed it was probably a crash, but thanks to you, Rawly, their PR machine now has a way to put a positive spin on it. I think you should ask them for some payment for your idea. :)
I wish it was resetting im soo bored now :(

Yes, after a few days of considering it and reading your msgs here, this seems to be the most likely explanation. I actually posted this thread also over at the Community Forum in the same hour on Xmas eve, to get maximum exposure and feedback, they gave some good responses over there.
Incidentally, the computer I play on at a game center, on Dec. 23rd, less than 24 hours before this happened, another guy was playing Diablo2 and suddenly got a disconnect and the msgs: "This account has been closed.." and "Cd-key disabled....". It was ultra bizarre. I've heard subsequently that alot of bannings went into effect on those days, haven't gotten confirmation of that. Well, I logged into this computer today using a no-longer-used acct given to me by a friend. The cdkey works now, it seems. I dont know if that guys acct still is open. Someone told me that a keylogger program or hack might have triggered it, or someone stole the cdkey and got it tempbanned.
Blizzard really should have a backup of the ladder listing. They should reinstall that list and then let players entering the realm adjust whatever exp they have gained or lost since the last backup. This is how you run a competent company! Things really seem to be messed up right now in how that company is handling its Diablo2 franchise...
All a very confusing Holiday for me!
