Hi mates:wave: I've seen some time ago this had happened also to someone other but there hasn't been a true solution. Well, it happens me as it goes:
I'm hell Difficulty fighting Ancients with my Assasin, level 81 and ALWAYS, after about a minute, screen freezes and game locks itself up. When goin' back 2 my desktop, I find this error message
http://img331.imageshack.us/img331/7122/errordiablo2uk4.jpg
and when clicked ok it shuts the game down.
I'm desperate, I simply cannot get the quest done without the game crashing! I'm not using any hack or stuff like that, I'm a clean gamer! I'm seriously put down, please don't tell me I gotta trash my char, I'm not an Hard player & it took me quite some time 2 develope it...
more info would be helpful, do you have the latest patch 1.11b?
are you playing on b-net or sp/open?
list some of your compter specs, processor speed, video card, ram

Ok, I got 1.11b, single-player only (except some TCP-IP's, but I've experienced this exclusively on sp), got Windows XP, CPU is GenuineIntel Type 0 Family F Model 2 Stepping 4 Brand 9 1813 MHz (taken from Blizzard support site diagnostic), got 511 MB ram, a Matrox Millennium G400 DualHead, and as soundcard Realtek AC97 Audio. Hope this can clarify the situation..:undecided:

I've seen others with this problem as well, generally with the Assassin. I don't think anyone has sorted out the real problem, but some have had some success by not using Cloak of Shadows in places where the problem occurs.
You may want to try searching the Single Player Forum, I think there are some threads in there about the problem.

I was actually using it, well I also sent an email to Blizzard Tech Support and I'm waiting 4 an answer, well, thanks for your time Cattleya I'll try opening a thread in that forum and try going without Cloak aswell. If I ever have any success, I'll let u know. Thanks.

See this thread (http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=517987) which recommends deleting "d2data.mpq" and replacing it by manually copying the same file from the Diablo II installation disk. There are links to other useful threads within that one, but that might fix it. Good luck!

I had lurked a day on that topic and it was no help. I tried both substituting the .mpq and reinstalled 5 times before opening this:undecided: The Blizz Technician requested me error logs & Direct X Diagnostic and I'm waiting for a reply. Cattleya suggestion seems to work, I tried a couple of times and it didn't happen, avoiding using Cloak of Darkness. I'll be sure it works when I'll have beaten them (er, still tryin:embarassed:  ) but maybe that's the point.
I remember reading that this happened mostly when big graphics were involved, and the fact more ppl than me experienced this on the Ancients' fight could be related to the location (The cliff with the whole 3d perspective down to the valley) and maybe some strange interaction with CoD.
Gonna update wheter I have success in completing it without that skill or some reply from Blizz Tech. Thanks everyone.

Cattleya's advice worked. The quest is completed & I hope it's everything ok... Really curious on how the Blizz Technician would explain this. No use of Cloak of Shadows did it 100%. Thanks a lot m8, I was already thinking my char was ready for the trashcan. Thanks a lot 2 everyone who cared.
