View Full Version : How to reach 30k AR?

I really want to improve the hit ratio with my pvp charger. I remember in a duel game someone told me I should try for 30k AR to get a decent chance to hit; so I'm wondering whether that's what I should aim for. I believe that a higher AR doesn't matter for block chances, so does that mean I'd still miss 75% against max block people?
Right now I'm level 82 with about 14k Attack rating. My setup is:
eBOTD Archon staff (base of the build)
Kiara's guardian/rockstopper
Dusk CoH
Thundergod's
Dracul's
Waterwalk's
Angelic amu and 2 Angelic rings.
I have charge maxed, vigor maxed and cold resist aura maxed. So that leaves about 30-40 skill points(haven't done all the quests yet).
Currently when dueling I have vigor as active aura because I like the speed. Thinking about maxing fanaticism - how much would that improve AR? Charge already gives +400.
All things considered, my question is, what is the AR I should aim for and how do I reach it? I already have an anni and torch and I think about ~250 in AR from charms.
Thanks for any input in advance,
75% vs max block, or 25% if they're running instead of walking/standing still. If you see someone running, some newbie hammerdin that likes to run between hammerspam -> smack them down.
Might as well go all-out damage since you're going for a two-hander, so just max out might for the synergy, then fanaticism for the highest damage aura there is + attack rating, which it gives. Blessed aim gives AR passively, dunno whether it's worth it. Google Chippydip, he made a very nice skill calculator that's integral to planning any kinda skill-build.
Gear choices - draculs? You've got a slow attack, so the chance to proc is low. Open wounds seems kinda unchargelike - how about bloodfists for FHR/life? Two raven frosts and the Highlord's Wrath amulet (for deadly strike) possibly with goreriders for more deadly strike is what I'd go for, using the angelics as situational switches against high def chars.
Overall, the only time you should be worrying about def is with a) barbs b) pallies. The BvCs tend to have no block, so their defense is somewhat moot - still, use angelics if needed. The paladins... Yeah, the paladins. Asides from relyong on mad desynch, and stacking up on AR I don't know how much you can do. I think 20K? is about average defense of a smiter, so with fanaticism you should be able to get a 50/50 chance of hitting them or better... Hsarus boots+belt gives set bonus attack rating, like Angelics.
Using vigor as active aura is good, but you should switch between it and a damage aura. Vigor to desynch/confuse/get around, then fanaticism for the hit. Then vigor again to flee.

I just noticed I accidentally posted this one before changing the title, sorry aout that, feel free to close one mods.
Thanks for the comprehensive reply.
Fanaticism will be maxed.
I'm using draculs for the strength mainly. It's a pure vita build and Thundergod's requires around 110 strength - might have to replace it I suppose. I'll check that Hsarus combo out on the boots and belt.
If I were to replace my boots with gore's it'd be switching in defense for offense kind of. But I guess that's not a bad idea with this build. If I can get enough AR without the angelic combo I might indeed go for Highlords.
I have just about no chance against WWing barbs and assassins, and little chance against good smiters. So I usually don't hostile those  this build is much better against sorcs/druids/trapsins/and to some extent necros and amaxons. Basically against non-melee. I'm still shifting between neglecting melee duels or optimizing the char for every char there is. That would mean I'd have to get a CoA though which is out of my budget for now.
Other question: Does IAS matter much when charging?
Other question: Does IAS matter much when charging?
yes but not too much the ias on botd + fana is usually enough.
If your ever desperate for extra ar (eg vs many smiters, some barbs) try hsarus belt + boots (only if REALLY desperate though) gives 10x level for ar which helps :), i wouldnt say you cannot kill ww barbs/sins u just gotta be careful when to charge him (as in when not whirling which is quite hard) if u can catch him at the end of a whirl u can usually charge 3 times in row which should kill pretty much anything

This is untrue. Increased attack speed has no bearing on charge.
how rare, theres a significant difference when i tried charging with fana than holy shock or any other aura u 100% sure?, have u tried it yourself as well as using theory?:undecided:
IAS does not affect the charge skill - it does affect the normal swing that can happen after you charge someone and don't have enough room to charge again since they blocked/you're just too close to charge. Again - charging with a slow spear is the same as charging with a phase blade.
Something I've considered is a charger/bowdin hybrid. Widowmaker on switch, you've got the deadly strike gear allready, in the ideal situation (IE if you're filthy rich) you've got some nice max/lifers in your inventory... Then you could try to play really damn defensively and abuse vigor-charge+open wounds+slow from the weapon switch trick (tan do li ga flail on switch instead of your charge weapon) against smiters and maybe, maybe have a chance... (Look on google videos for w1zad3pt and zaichkin [prolly misspelled both their names] trap/WWsin videos, one of 'em shows some good bow tactics.)
Then again, probably not. Another idea would be to stack slow + max holy freeze + slap on a grief and outsmite the slowed, frozen, crying smiter. (I assume holy freeze and slow target stack separately - if so then just for fun you could try to incorporate Lawbringer for MORE slow...)
Although, again, probably hopeless. A smiter is just like you, except his charge does less and his smite does more...
Easy ways to increase AR :
Get charms with AR on them. Very helpful.
Extra points into Blessed Aim. Even when BA isn't active, it gives a passive 5% ar bonus.

Thanks for the help so far.
Does the 5% bonus from blessed aim stack up with the AR bonus from charge (which is around 400%)? Cause if so, it'd make hardly a difference.
I have quite some AR charms now. A grand charm of 132, some smalls of 30+, and about 4 large charms with 50-75 AR bonus. With maxed fanaticism, I currently reach 20k. Some improvements I can make is get a few more lvls (for angelics), and replace the nec torch with a pala torch :lipsrsealed:
I don't see too many other ways to improve after that, except for maybe charms, but I don't have that much room for variaton left.
Are there nice AR helms or gloves by any chance?
Yes Sir I Will

a 2 socket visionary hat with argent jewels of xx would give you a nice AR boost.

+20 AR mod on rares.. +100 ar from Magnus' Skin.. and 2% ctc lvl 10 chant on lavagout.
not much else.
