View Full Version : Why no poisonmancers in east ladder pubs?

I have been hitting up the pubs quite heavily lately, and I have yet to see a poisonmancer. Why is that? only reason I can think of is that it is pretty easy to stack poison resist. Nevertheless, I would think a necro with the following gear could do pretty well in pubs.

nigma
deathweb
Trang gloves
Arachs
35 spirit
2/20/... ammy
2/20/2os... circ
SS treks
10fcr ring
SOJ
9pnb,(need 11 fhr for 86 bp)
Torch
anni

This setup would meet 125%fcr bp, 86%FHR, and have a +47 poison nova. Combine that with +25% psn dmg from trang, -50 Res from Dweb, LR curse, and three +5/-5 facets (1 in dweb, 2 in circ), and you got yourself a pretty badass necro. Any thoughts?

why would it turn into barbs>wolves. were you not here where there was shaper>any build in every thread? At least barb>shaper is correct.

@op

Yep, poison nec with revives will do very fine in pubs. In general poison necs are fun chars to play against (never had one). Make sure you use teeth, spear or spirit in conjunction with psn novas and you should do fine.

Best thing about duelling psn necs is that you are on a timer if you do not have max res/enough stack...you know you can beat one but time is running out

Also since there are not too many rabies druids, psn necros or psn javas out there not too many people bother to stack vs poison it seems.

@ mainaman - sure they can be negated, shame hadly anyone caries anti poison gear

Oh yeah, with my negative resists I will do amazing vs tha majority of opponents. Those who do use physical damage will ofc bow down to my 5% chance to block and 8% PDR...

Hmm, I think i might make one, Pulling poison driveby's sounds like a fun way to duel. Besides the firegolem for the kill shot, I dont really see the point of summons though. I will probably go with the following skills,

20 poison dagger
20 poison explosion
20 poison nova

1 gire golem (3 prereq)
1 golem master
1 LR (6 prereq)

1 bone armor
20 bone wall
9 teeth, for kill shots

This build would be finished at 90. Since block on spirit sucks, is it worth
going for max block? Due to short range of nova, it still might be worth it. any thoughts?

One in teeth is enough with the +skills from charms and such, you'll just be using it for the killing shot. Pump bone wall/prison.

Two potential reasons:
A) Poison necs blow
B) East ladder pub games blow

Necs aren't the most survivable characters out there, and a poison nec by nature has to get closer than a bone nec. High FCR, FHR, life, and resists are an absolute must; your setup lacks the resists part, methinks. (Okay, if you had REALLY godly ammy/boots/circlet, maybe... Good luck stacking res vs FoH or blizz though.)

Point being, poison necs are hard to balance in terms of damage:survivability.

Not really. Everyone always goes for the DWeb route etc.

125% FCR with Storm and Wizzy gives plenty of damage, res, pdr and block.

I had one a while ago, and it was pretty effective etc.

Only problem is the frustration with barely ever getting kills. Peoples reactions to being poisoned were to run to town.

Poison necs are glass cannons and are only effectives against newibies who can't do anything other than run and spam. Most of my chars get their health drained in 1 nova if don't antidote prebuff. Yet I always kill them before they even hit me or land a second hit.

In other words poison necs suck against anyone who can chase because they are glass cannons and also because they have no way of stunning someone.(They can't send anyone into fhr because of the way poison damage works.) Although I'd have to say a poison nec would be the perfect for ladder if you ever made one.

Characters that can chase would be a big problem for low fcr, offensive players, but at 125 with good teleporting skills, and the right dueling strategy, I dont see it being a huge problem. The poisonmancer wont succeed as a full-on offensive attacker. Instead, you have to be a little more opportunistic, utilizing an attack/evade strategy. This poisonmancer will be a gangsta...driving by in a black van, opening the windows, spraying some rounds from the uzis, and getting the hell out of their.

There are worse builds out there than poisonmancers, but they still aren't very good, too one dimensional.

zeiris
07-12-2006, 05:55
Hah. That analogy makes me wanna re-gear my poison nec :D

They're not THAT one-dimensional. The curses and plentiful leftover points make for fun possibilities... Team PKs aside, there's a lot of fun things a poison necro can do that a bone nec can't dream of.

antidote>psn nec

or death gloves..

and u have pitifull dmg.

Secondly u have no ability to tank with 8% pdr and crap block with a spirit u wil have no chance vs decent mele.

listen a bvc only needs 20-40% fcr with leap and/or namelocking to catch any caster teleing at 125% fcr or higher. A normal hammer can tele at 125%fcr has high res stack to top it off + an antidote = u lose.

revives could work but they take a while to summon up and are on like a 2min timer...

Sense, and not really.

It's still pure theory crafting.

Gm multiple + nova 2v2 combo is very good, poison necs just aren't used much because they are weak on their own, they need support.

I never understood why ppl think so highly of "perfect darkforce". Neither does arb apparently.

Simply because Spirit is better in every respect

Except for strength requirements.

Though if you can meet those there's no reason to use darkforce... unless you happen to believe that the extra potential skills are worth everything.

Spirit + SS are all a bonenec will ever need. Same str req too!

Enigma, and a pitiful 2 life per vit point for necs make the str req argument absolutely pointless

Guess some people think that the extra +1 would matter.

Which - if you are vaguely seriously dueling will be easy to meet with your Enigma :)

Edit... beaten...
